You can have great mods but if most users are console warriors or just general idiots, it doesn't matter.

Also, every community past a certain size needs filters. Reddit is one big whitelist if you want it to be (a blacklist with RES), 4chan has built in filtering, but also a bunch of 3rd party extensions. All GAF has is the ignore list and community threads. Filter bubbles may be lamentable, but at a certain point there's just too much chaff to sift through, no matter how open minded or fair you want to be to everyone.
Agreed. It's like just by virtue of numbers the shit posters kind of control the forum. They post the most threads. They post the click bait honey pot threads also that draw in and encourage the stupidity. And with Evilore's war on community threads, you can't even escape into them like you use to be able to. It's just a big mess honestly.
And yeah it does feel like a shitty reddit, where you can't just filter out all the annoying shit you don't want like on reddit.
You can't just run a site like that with so many members like its the bore and throw all that shit into one place. It needs sub-forums at minimum. But they'll never do that
