Kid Kamikaze getting annihilated.  :rofl

He's not wrong. It was essentially 5 people, and not the BLM movement that did it. But now BLM is "embarassing" and not just those five individuals? Miss me with that. You'd have to be full on cac or an Oreo to expound that view. Someone who really wasn't about it, but pretended to be about it, but when merely five people do something stupid you throw the whole -entirely legitimate - movement under the bus.

Liberals defined in a paragraph. Read it again, then wipe that sweat from your brow recognizing I'm right.
It's not just those five people, plenty of dummies were defending them. Bernie Sanders wants to get shit done, not play get whitey whack-a-mole.

Where did he talk about race? It wasn't even a bullet point on his official platform on his site, was it?

I remember him talking about black unemployment quite a bit before Netroots. Wasn't a talking point on his site iirc though.

So what you're saying is that in the year of our Lord 2015, Bernie Sanders a social democrat running on a progressive platform didn't have an official stance on race or racial inequality on his actual website platform despite record highs - in decades at least - of racial tension?

Hmmmmm.

Cuba doesn't have the kind of racial economic discrimination that the U.S. has yet it still has persistent institutional racism (particularly in the leadership of the PCC).

Bring this up in our marxist/socialist circles and watch them squirm :jawalrus

But that's where I learnt that?

Brocialists will always be a thing, but I'm probably one of the few white man cishet scum comrades in the circles I (used to more and more) run in.

This is tangential to the conversation, but there was a great documentary I saw one time called "Following Sean". The 'hook' is a documentary about tracking down the child of hippies 30 years later. But what unfolds is a generational study on how leftist politics/values has evolved in America.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/following_sean_2006/

It was really eye-opening to see how much animosity the "old" socialists had for the hippies of the Woodstock era. You would think that they would be kindred spirits, but they were not.

Two different generations.

My dad's grandparents were socialists. They came from farming people. But even some of those types were quite nationalist, sometimes even jingoist having seen WWII and what not. Plus they went through the great depression.

My mom was a hippy. They didn't really have nationalistic pride despite having grown up in the 50s. Then in the 60s they basically rebelled against their parents quite hard. They saw a lot of inequity that needed fixing. They didn't see Vietnam as necessary. Older generations were pretty spiteful of baby boomers tbh, thought they were spoiled as hell, to be fair a lot of them were compared to great depression era folks.

Of course these are all white people I'm talking about who still had it loads better than any minority at the time, so to hear any of them talk about the struggle or the "great 50s" still has to be taken into proper context.

The New Left was a very deliberate shunning (Hegelian antithesis) of the Old Left. In particular, jettisoning workers' interests and a materialist conception of not just history but reality itself. (This runs the gamut from New Agers to GMO truthers.) The beef is pretty old, but I can understand why far-left on far-left crime can be new and strange to those outside the tree house.

As I intimated, the Old Left is going through something of a Hegelian synthesis at present given decades of New Left stagnancy, but whether that amounts to anything in the end is a mystery.

I don't officially belong to any groups, Himu, but the West's M-L party (the PSL) is a less salon, more organizational example of what I was talking about.

How is that dude even polling now.
Last I saw he was still snowball chance in hell vs Hillary.

Unless I read the wrong shit recently, he's been closing the gap each time polls happen.

Honestly, the constant barrage of "Hilary has this, he has no chance" for the past two months is grating as fuck.

Even if he gains on Hillary I doubt he'll get the nomination. As much as I would love it over Hillary (he agrees with most of my view points on shit) I don't think he has a chance of being put on the national stage. The democrats pass over a woman after putting a black guy in office? Doubtful.

Fuck those types so hard, especially if they're in Cali.

Back in the day you didn't even have to pay for tuition for UCs. That was the point of public colleges like Universities, to be just like any other public school. Now though? Psssh.

When my mom told me she went to UCBerk tuition free I was like

It's possible to go to a UC tuition free if you're over 22 and an independent, I did that when I went back and got all my tuition plus half of my living expenses paid for. Still ended up with $5,000 a year in federal loans.

The middle class students who entered right out of high school usually paid about $15,000/year just for tuition.

Back when my mom was going anyone with residency in state didn't have to pay regardless of their personal finances because it was basically paid into by the taxes imposed on their relatives. The idea was that public education is a great safety net, an educated populace, even if they don't go into white collar careers, are better off, more intelligent and lead healthier existences. Now it doesn't really matter since so many put themselves in dire financial straits that the stress of getting an education strips some of those previous benefits. They also identified who wasn't necessarily higher education material and made sure to get them into the trades. These days no one gives that much of a shit. Encouraging everyone and their mother to go to a college, any kind of college, sure was a boon for the assholes who dole out private loans.

Yeah the price of education is ridiculous when almost every decent job outside of skilled labor requires a college degree. Going to a public university costs as much as retirees collect in social security but you only need to pay it for 4 years and you end up with a better employee for the next 40.

I don't know if other states did it too. But actually I'm remembering that my school (UC Santa Cruz) is the one that gave me a grant that completely covered tuition every year while the state government only gave a few thousand a year. So maybe my advice is incredibly specific. :-\

If you're planning to get a degree, it's definitely worth it to first go to a junior college with a good transfer program, but this could be a California only thing since I know we have a system that makes it really easy to transfer credits.

Michigan has some of the best community colleges in the country, and the credits are transferable to the biggest universities in the state. It doesn't make much sense IMO to rush to a university unless you have a good major in mind. If you aren't sure or want to fuck around with liberal arts bullshit, go to a community college and save money. Figure out your path and then transfer in two years.

Bernie Sanders is the new Ron Paul right? In terms of inexplicable frothing internet ball-suckage.

He's the Howard Dean of 2016.  Like Sanders, Dean was a favorite of progressives but he was unable to translate that into any real victories (outside of his home state, naturally).  Like Dean, in the primaries, he'll probably carry only Vermont and that is just because of his home state advantage.

I'm a c-section baby because mom didn't dilate enough. The great thing about being in a hospital already when this happens is you can be moved to surgery asap. Some women aren't really built to give birth without dying, I'll be one of those, I don't mind going into a hospital if I decide to have a child because I'm already acutely aware of inherited issues that would require serious shit.
