I'm being critical of the notion that athletic scholarships are handed out due to "luck."  So, in so much as there are sides in this discussion, I'm taking yours.

I gave up a lot of my young life to play sports. I was putting in 12 hour days starting (counting school) at age 13. It kept me out of a lot of trouble and I did it to escape the circular life my family had been living for 3 generations. (John Forte "Love the ghetto, hate the ghetto, must been a genius who helped create the ghetto"). It was more of a blessing to watch my kid who had everything dedicate himself the same as I. Made me proud to be his father. He's everything I was and more and come 2 years you'll be seeing him tear up the NCAA, god willing.

Really the only thing that bothers me at the moment about tuition is my own brother will be headed in soon. The fam isn't as well off as we were when I went to college. My sister ended up basically dropping out and doing other shit, but we'll see. Hopefully by that time the state will do something more reasonable to help by the time he's ready.
