POWERS: I first want to say, Terry, that Kevin was not a typically stressed-out kid before this hit him. I think that the stress came as he started to deal with the realization that his mind was changing. Kevin - one of the saddest things I can remember about him - saying about him describing his turmoils inside his head was that he was having racist thoughts. But at the same time, as he was having these thoughts, he was appalled at having racist thoughts.

It was like he was watching his mind as it began to deteriorate. So the stress he talked about in that email came about from what he perceived as a loss of friendship with his fellow musician. And I think he was probably hallucinating or exaggerating the loss of friendship. This would be paranoia. And from that point, the symptoms deepened into other things.

Comedy Central did for a number of years use different versions of SNL than the NBC reruns/DVD versions/etc. They used to have a version of SNL cut into an hour which usually dumped one of the musical sets if a band/artist did two and often would dump a sketch and part of Weekend Update. I think Comedy Central used the originals fit into an hour and a half.

Should note that this is because SNL airs with different sized commercial blocks than regular shows since they're live. Or at least used to. I haven't seen a live episode in like a decade probably.

When Andrew Dice Clay was scheduled as a host for the May 12, 1990 episode, cast member Nora Dunn immediately announced to the press that she was boycotting the show in protest. She stated the protest was in view of Clay's perceived misogynistic, politically incorrect act, and did so without informing Michaels, the cast, or most of the crew about her intent. The public backlash was immediate; the selection of Clay was compared to the Holocaust by an audience member during an interview with Michaels. I've always wanted a (modern) cast member to explain what the protocol is when someone slips up and says fuck.  Is there a required HR meeting?  Does Lorne just shrug or maybe scowl at that player the next monday?  Does he have to make a phone call and assure someone it's not a big deal? 

And he has a cadre of women to fetch it for him at all times.  Those women go on to be the directors of TV shows.

It depends on which point of the book, the original cast made up with him as they aged/died, the 1980's guys either owed everything to him or were cleaned out when he came back, and the book starts to peter out as the 1990's go on. Now Lorne employs some weird system because he's looking for people he can elevate far more than he used to since that puts his hands into more pots full of popcorn outside of 30 Rock.

It's in like its fifth edition or something and they just tack on new stuff to the end, you can tell because the interviews starting being more about how much fun working with Tom Hanks or Katy Perry or whatever is instead of stories from the early guys about how the guest hosts were the worst part. I remember reading the original and it was just like oh, everyone either hates SNL and wanted to get past it and/or dies, also drugs are required and NBC is even worse than anyone. And then years later seeing an updated version at the library and now it's got ten pages of Tim Meadows gushing about everything. Also, fewer cast members give interviews, like stars like Adam Sandler or whoever, I think like David Spade basically only talks about Chris Farley.

Maybe I'm getting that wrong.  I know this interview with him where when confronted about a story he tells to people that is really Doug Benson's story while on the Doug Benson podcast got me to hate him.  He basically blames the book publishers for the theft.

The story is about Mr. Belvedere sitting on his own balls during a table read and having to go to the hospital.

He's been pushing his drug "redemption" for about 11 years now only to crash and burn again and again. I doubt he's been clean for more than 7 or 8 months at a time. Was arrested again a few months ago, unfortunately.

I can remember him on Howard Stern talking about his trips to the doctor and them warning about the horrible shape of his liver from his alcohol and drug abuse. This would have been 8 or 9 years ago at this point. I have no idea how he is still alive.

Also the fact that Rush and Seth got along really well in studio and had the same ideas for some lines to use, which is why he came back to do the full episode and did more cameos, also the fact that Rush was apparently super easy to work with unlike normal celebrities...and later, when Limbaugh was ill, Seth was one of the first people to call him and ask how he was doing and get better and so on.
