Gamecube was also probably their last genuinely well made console. Strongest console at release, sturdy as fuck, ergonomic controller except for the d-pad which no game used anyway. edit: oh wait, small discs were a little questionable. Still good enough.

When I replaced the screen-destroying og 3DS with the new one, it only took a few harmless walks for the upper screen to go loose. It was also special edition whose paint wore off after half a year. Fisher-price-tier hardware maker at this point  :picard

Did the analogue stick guy at the company retire after the Wii U or what? This is a fundamental design flaw. Why carry that over into another model? One where the whole unit has to be sent in to fix it, no less. I don't understand.

That's one of several reasons not to buy a Switch Lite, you can't just replace the joycon.
Another very important reason is the Flip Grip by Fangamer that allows you to play games that support it vertically (tate).
I recently discovered the awesomeness that is pinball etc. on Switch in tate mode.

Yeah looks like I'm going to go with the normal model. Just wish some of the nicer joycons came with the console, I don't like either of the pairs that come with it.

Will most likely end up getting the see through purple joy con mod kits as fuck the default colours. How they managed to keep drift in a revised model is very nintendo.

LA is great again, just beat the second dungeon. Lot easier then I remember in the 90s though.

Framerate is a shame too.

Finally had time to play with my new Hori Split Pad Pro today. It's a bit light and the lack of rumble is unfortunate, but overall I like it a lot. It makes playing Switch in portable mode so much better. The d-pad is good (not Saturn/Vita level, but it feels nice and isn't stiff) and the buttons feel nice, as well.
I'd love to have a case to carry around my Switch with it attached...

I like mine as well from what I've tried of it, but that's my main complaint too. Honestly there is a chance someone makes a case (GAMING) but honestly probably easier to get a padded camera bag and pack it separate. Losing a good bit of portability though but not too terrible if you have a booksack or something.

So I'm replaying Super Metroid on switch and the controls kinda suck and now I sorta see the benefit of that SNES controller. On the portable mode & pro controller the placement of select which changes missiles is really out of the way and makes that a pain in the ass.

Yeah, same for punchout on the NES app, some of these games don't translate well to the joycons. The low latency is nice though. :larry

Wait, it does? I looked in the start menu but didn't see an option. Will check the title screen.

Anyhow, ordered the 8bitdo SN30 Pro+, hopefully I like this one better than the last 8bitdo controller I got for the SNES Mini.

Oh wow, the control customization on super metroid really helps here. Switched shot to Y, jump to B, dash to A and missile select to X and plays so.much.better on the Switch layout with this. I normally don't replay games, but haven't beat Super Metroid in forever and having it portable is a nice excuse to do another run through one of my favorite metroidvanias.

Got that 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ thing. D-pad & buttons are pretty much the same as the SF30 Snes pad I have from them. Still hard d-pad and hard buttons compared to official SFC/SNES controller.

Still after trying it on a bunch of stuff, it's pretty much better than the official Switch Pro Controller in almost every way. So when playing Switch on the TV this is gonna be my go to controller for sure.
But in terms of good d-pads lately. The Genesis Mini d-pad >> Dual Shock 4 d-pad > Official SNES mini d-pad > 8bitdo d-pad ->> Joy-con d-pad >> Switch Pro Controller d-pad.

I'm sure some of you will bark at DS4 over a Snes controller, but I find the DS4 split d-pad way easier to do diagonals than on the cross. Also easier for taps like menus and F,F imo.
But fuck, these Genesis controllers are so damn nice. Forgot what a real nice d-pad was.

Fuck, input lag is real. Spent 20 mins stuck on the part where you have to wall jump consecutively in Super Metroid and could not pull it off consistently and then switched to portable and I could wall jump no problem :|
Also damn, when you can wall jump on a dime it definitely sequence breaks stuff in this game. Just got the Gravity Suit in the wrecked ship. For the most part the game is still holding up very addictingly (it's 2am and haven't been able to find a good stopping point last 2 hours), but some stuff definitely feels a bit dated compared to the more modern takes on the formula.

I completely agree, which is why I recommended getting a Mayflash Magic-NS and playing Switch with a DS4.
In handheld mode Hori Split Pad Pro is now the best there is.

And while I don't have a Genesis mini, I presume it's the same D-pad as Saturn/6 Button Genesis pad? Saturn is as good as it gets.

Try the M30.   :)  Worth trying out these pads since you can just mark them as defective and return to Amazon for a full refund/paid shipping label if you don't like them!

Not a hard d-pad and is incredibly comfortable.  They're releasing a version that will work on the Genesis Mini next month...that's a lock!

Also with 8bitdo SNES style pads...it depends on the style you get.  Slightly different d-pads depending on if it's SNES, Gameboy, etc.

Hmm, got that Hori Split Pad Pro in the mail today. Wasn't expecting it since it was sold out and wasn't supposed to re-stock until late October. Will be interesting to test this and see if it eliminates the wrist/hand pain I get from playing Switch in bed.

Since it came out I'd play laying on my back in bed and after 30 mins or so my hand would start getting sharp tingly numbness and I'd have either sit up and play or turn to my side and play to make the pain go away. Really annoying since I like to play Switch in bed and I play a lot of long games. Happens pretty much nightly.

Even without rumble, if these make it ergonomic to fix that, it will be amazing. I swear Switch is fucking up my wrist too, when I do pushups after playing switch the night before my right wrist has a lot of pain and I can't do a bunch. The switch design sucks for handheld playing in bed :(

Yeah baby it's YU-NO TIME

It's a legendary PC98 VN with the greatest FM synth soundtrack of all time, unfortunately the graphics are anime trash and they didn't include the original PC98 graphics DLC like the japanese version, but I'll take what I can get

Jury's out on if the translation is better or worse than the fan version that required you to run an old Windows 95 .exe but I'll take what I can get, really

Basically I'm the only market for this video game because of my weird obsession with PC98, FM synth, and high res pixel art, by no means should any of you be playing this

Not gonna start it yet, but loaded up Dragon Quest XI to transfer the demo save file over and check out the 2D mode.  And unless I missed something, you can't just switch between 2D and 3D on the fly?  The game prompted me to create a new save file and then started over from the beginning.  Guess I'm sticking with 3D.

I don't see how you could ever use them unless I'm holding it wrong? The buttons are exactly where your fingers hold the controller so you'd always be pressing them accidentally.

Booo

I knew about the church switch but didn't know about the chapter reset thing. There goes switching back and forth to check out spots on the fly.
