yoooooooooo Tom Cotton town hall meeting is lit.
Some lady literally came out here tracing her family linage down to the founding fathers who signed the constitution, had family in the revolution, related to some kinda vet in the family who has a shitload of medals and probably had a great grandma who gave Lincoln a handjob... all this to ask about investigating Putin/Trump connections.

Tom Cotton's response was basically (Image removed from quote.)

Cotton should have responded with, "Yeah, but what have you done for the republic lately?"

Honestly, why is there a CNN debate about the DNC chair? Let alone one that is treating this like a presidential debate?

With that said, Pete Buttigieg seems like he has a solid future.

Reading GAF and Reddit, its how they are treating it too. Like this is a battle about policy and identity like its the next president.

It seems many think reform = purity testing.

When it should be reform = how should we structure our party and infrastructure to be more responsive, effective, adaptive and present throughout the country so we can win elections at every level and move toward the ideals everyone on this stage 99% agrees with.

Hopefully the DNC voters are a bit more high minded then that(doubtful).

Because they don't have someone with a recognizable (and liked) brand to parade around. Think of it as a casting show.

The Democratic National Committee will choose its next leader on Saturday, and when it does it should choose a leader who will resist the pressure to pursue the wrong white people. Hundreds of articles have been written about the imperative of attracting more support from white working-class voters who supported Barack Obama in 2012 but then bolted to back Donald J. Trump.

The far more important — and largely untold — story of the election is that more Obama voters defected to third- and fourth-party candidates than the number who supported Mr. Trump. That is the white flight that should most concern the next D.N.C. chairman, because those voters make up a more promising way to reclaim the White House. The way to win them back is by being more progressive, not less.

To be clear, all white voters matter. But Democrats must make tough, data-driven decisions about how to prioritize their work. Right now, too many are using bad math and faulty logic to push the party to chase the wrong segment of white voters. For example, Guy Cecil, who spent nearly $200 million as head of the progressive “super PAC” Priorities USA, urged the party to rebuild trust with the “millions of white voters who voted for President Obama and Donald Trump.”

The math underlying that conclusion is incorrect (Mr. Trump picked up not “millions,” but only 784,000 white votes in the 10 battleground states he won by single digits). And it misses the bigger — and more fixable — problem of white Democratic defections to third- and fourth-party candidates.

I'm sure the "Reader Picks" comments of the esteemed New York Times put forth a solid answer to these questions and...lol no jk BERNIE YO

Let's just put it this way: Tom Perez represents the establishment wing of the Democratic Party and Keith Ellison represents the progressive (Sanders) wing of the party.

If the Democrats want a shot at the upcoming 2018 elections and the 2020 Presidential election, they must go with Keith Ellison. If Mr. Perez becomes the DNC Chair this will push away many progressive voters in 2018 and 2020. This was the problem during this past election - many progressive Democrats voted for third parties for their disillusionment for HRC and her hawkish policies.

There is also Sam Ronan, a veteran millennial, and a Berniecrat, who in the recent DNC Chair debates has criticized the DNC for holding rigged primaries against Senator Sanders. The only problem with him though is that he is not looked as a serious candidate (but I suggest you look him up).

If the Democrats want to expand their base while at the same time keeping the doors open for the new upcoming generation of voters, they must go progressive. Only Keith Ellison and Sam Ronan will be the Democratic Party's options if it wants to survive.

The problem was Hillary Rodham Clinton. I am a University educated White Progressive born in the Midwest and living in the South who never would have ever voted for any Clinton- especially Hillary. I am not alone and there are plenty more like me.

I am the Baby Boomer Child of New Deal Democrats. Like Ronald Reagan famously said, the Democratic Party left us only I am not a Republican. The shift under the Democratic Leadership Council to the Republican Lite policies of both Clintons and President Obama was a sharp move away from the legacy of Progressive Government that informed the New Deal to the Great Society. I will not support Third Way-ism no matter how it is dressed up. The fact that Hillary of Goldman claimed to be a "Progressive that likes to get things done" just made things worse.

I met many more like myself working as a volunteer for the Sanders Campaign. We do not fit the stereotypes the political class tried to apply to us and that failure will doom the Democrats. We want fair trade not so-called free trade, which is why we opposed the TPP. We want good public schools for all children, but expect teachers and administrators to be accountable, which is why we part ways with the AFT & NEA. We want equality for all but reject the PC identity politics of liberals and quotas. We want law and order, but expect rehabilitation- not just incarceration. And we do not want means testing or cuts to Social Security.

Time to wake up, Democrats.

As a white woman I am disillusioned by what I see if a move by the Democratic Party away from the left and toward the elite. Democrats traditionally represented the workers. Now they seem to represent every special interest group and shun workers. I think a better name for democrats might be the progressive elites. Don't call yourself the left. The left in the tradition of politicians like Dennis Kucinich supported workers. He was a true leftist and for the working people. Now democrats seem to be caught up with identity politics. Why do you think Bernie did so well? It's hard to rally around being an elitist.

After having nearly half of Democrats voting in the Primaries for the progressive candidate, Senator Bernie Sanders, Ms. Clinton directed her efforts after the Democratic Convention to attempting to woo "disaffected" establishment Republican voters. She really needed to connect with the progressives instead, especially to youthful voters who are the future of this Party.

My 26 year-old son did not vote for Mrs. Clinton,he voted for Jill Stein and the Green Party. Votes for Ms. Stein in Madison cost Ms. Clinton the State of Wisconsin and contributed to her loss of the Presidential election. You do not win votes from progressives wooing Republicans. I support Mr Ellison for DNC Chair. He understands this concept.

Bravo, finally a voice of reason for the Democrats. Bernie would have won, hands down, absolutely positively.

But the wishy-washy Dems, who spent 8 years trying to make nice with the enemy and it got them nowhere but buried, were aghast at a Bernie run.

The biggest lesson to be learned is how the Republicans bowed to the most extreme faction of their base and won.

Get this: there is no middle. I repeat: THERE IS NO MIDDLE. That should be so obvious (to anyone but the Casper Milquetoast Democratic Party leadership).

The only way forward is to motivate the true Democratic base of hard-core believers in liberal Democracy.

Bernie Sanders' message was even better. The DEMs should focus on the core issue of economic justice. That is the primary justice issue of concern to most voters and its the foundation for all the other social justice issues.

Until the American working class (of whatever color) has formed a clearer picture of its economic/class interests, all the other social justice issues are icing on the cake.

A much stronger labor movement is what America desperately needs to protect us from the next demagogue post-Trump.

Elect Keith Ellison DNC head. Perez's a decent guy but he's tied to corporate interests, Wall Street & Clinton elites (he's one of Bill's closest friends & attached to the Clinton's non-progressive policies. And he's anti-labor).

Move away from monied interests & 'identity politics' or Democrats are doomed. Address the concerns of African Americans & Hispanics - but focus on policies! Bill Clinton, Tom Perez & HRC repeatedly rejected the possibility of universal health care & free public college tuition. The Clintons said "that's never going to happen." Whose side were they on? Those are huge economic concerns for people. See all those folks showing up at town halls? Health care concerns & college costs will also motivate the under 26 vote that didn't bother to vote for HRC. The Democrats don't have to become the Socialist Party - but they must convince people they understand their concerns & fears & try to move the dialogue - & the norm - closer to universal health care & debt-free college. Helping people get out from under crushing debt caused by medical bills & unaffordable college debt are an important aspect of helping people have productive lives.

HRC was also far too hawkish. Get over that too!

Reject the Clinton neo-conservative 'third way'- continually moving farther right. We got beat in 2000 & 2016 because of the Clintons. Don't stay stuck in the past by electing Clinton surrogate Perez DNC chair.

Learn from mistakes or this party is dead on arrival.

As a lifelong Democrat I beg to differ with the thrust of this article and its conclusions.
Progressives, if anything severely damaged Clinton's campaign, it wasn't big donors and money. It was Bernie Sanders and his destructive, ill-conceived grasp at power, and his relentless attacks on Clinton. He isn't even a Democrat, yet he ran as one, attacked the party, its leadership, and super delegate structure continuously. Clinton had to waste enormous energy, resources and time answering his attacks on her, energy that could have been better spent elsewhere in fighting the opposition. He is largely responsible for the surge in third party voting.
If there is anything Democrats need to learn for 2018, for 2020, etc., it's to stick closely together, period, and stop this non-stop center vs. left battle. The battle is to elect as many Democrats as possible, period. If the Indivisible movement can learn from the Tea Party, the Democrats can, and must, learn from the GOP's lockstep approach to elections and governance.
As for who becomes chair of the DNC, I hope it's not Ellison. If Sanders wants him, then I don't. More center vs. left disarray.
Comey, WikiLeaks and the Russians aren't even taken into account in this examination of the vote.
Progressives like this author, and his organization CAP, need to focus less on their specific agenda, and more on the bottom line: getting Dems into office, period.
In politics winning isn't everything: it's the only thing.

I know I'm saying this about the nomenklatura party, but given how much revolt from below we've already seen (both within and without the party, and rarely in sync with it), positioning a contest for control at the top of it as the battle for America (or w/e) seems like a capitulation on effectively ever tapping into that fervor. Fox's Sean Hannity has apologized for sharing a story on Twitter that calls Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) a "war criminal."

"I retweeted an inaccurate article. My apologies to @SenJohnMcCain," the "Hannity" host wrote on Thursday afternoon.

Hannity, a Fox News and syndicated radio host for more than 20 years, had shared a link to a story that accuses McCain of being a "globalist war criminal."

Well, I mean look at the_donald, it's still thriving despite not being an "official Trump platform" (outside of a Trump QA there).

Milo's audience intersects that base that goes to 4chan and the_donald. All he has to do is announce a site there and the folks will follow more than likely.

I just get the sense that the only reason the guy gets any real stay with the alt-right is because he managed to get into the liberal bubble and goat reactions. I don't think I ever see people treating Milo like they do typical alt-right pundits or conservative figures. What he says is irrelevant compared to what reactions he gets. If he can't keep that exposure up I don't know how he sticks around.

Though I guess if he makes a site focused on his strengths, maybe he can sustain some sort of following.

He has a pretty rabid following. I checked out a youtube stream of his conference, and 99% of the live comments were "fuck traitorous breitbart," "I love you Milo" etc.

If anything, Milo actually cared enough to cultivate a fandom that is not necessarily attached to politics.

Isn't it the 'press gaggle' which is the informal press briefings that aren't taped?

Maybe that's the only way the Trump organization communicates anymore. IDK

I hate to say it but...

Nah.

Still, feels like a desperate move given how long he took to do it when the speculation was since before Inauguration Day. Probably they realized it was risky idea until the leaks become daily occurrence.

It's kind of funny that people forget or aren't aware that Mike Pence tried to shut out local news in Indiana and disseminate everything through a state run system where every bit of news had to be approved by his administration before being released to the public. The idea was so ridiculous that fellow republicans were making "lol is this Russia" jokes about it before the negative reaction got it scrapped a couple of weeks before it went live.

Little did they know :doge

I'm no political genius, but isn't intentionally pissing off the media going to want them to take you down even more?   ???

What's the genesis of the paid protester thing? It's such an inherently ridiculous idea (although I suppose that doesn't mean much these days).

I'd like to say that it's the product of understanding that we pay dissident (and "dissident") groups abroad to undermine certain governments and, consequently, that it could happen here, but that would require that we exist on an Earth where your average American actually knows anything about the world at large.

His followers don’t fact-check anything — they’ll post everything, believe anything. His campaign manager posted my story about a protester getting paid $3,500 as fact. Like, I made that up. I posted a fake ad on Craigslist.

Why? I mean — why would you even write that?

Just ’cause his supporters were under the belief that people were getting paid to protest at their rallies, and that’s just insane. I’ve gone to Trump protests — trust me, no one needs to get paid to protest Trump. I just wanted to make fun of that insane belief, but it took off. They actually believed it.

So that could be the origin of this particular one.

I think people of any particular ideology/partisan allegiance like to imagine that their adversaries are all dupes or hucksters, for any number of reasons.

http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/national-party-news/321040-i-will-leave-the-democrats-if-keith-ellison-is-elected
Quote
Tomorrow the Democratic National Committee (DNC) will have to choose the direction of the Democratic Party, as well as its likely composition. It will be among the most important choices the DNC has ever had to make.

There has been powerful push from the hard-left of the Democratic Party, led by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), to elect Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) chairman.  If he is elected, I will quit the party after 60 years of loyal association and voting.  I will become an independent, continuing to vote for the best candidates, most of whom, I assume, will still be Democrats.  But I will not contribute to the DNC or support it as an institution.

My loyalty to my country and my principles and my heritage exceeds any loyalty to my party.  I will urge other like-minded people — centrist liberals — to follow my lead and quit the Democratic Party if Ellison is elected chairman.  We will not be leaving the Democratic Party we have long supported.  The Democratic Party will be leaving us!
