I'm just rooting for a brokered convention. I just want to see how it operates in the modern era. The world is a radically different place then when it happened in 1952.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/elections-2020/many-young-voters-sat-out-super-tuesday-contributing-to-bernie-sanders-losses/ar-BB10IrLz?li=BBZdWbk

Quote
In Alabama, only 7% of the voters were in the 17-29 range compared to 14% in 2016. Sanders won six of every 10 of those voters Tuesday compared to four of 10 in 2016.

In North Carolina, 13% of Tuesday’s electorate were young voters, compared to 16% four years ago. Of those, 57% went for Sanders in 2020 compared to 69% in 2016.

In South Carolina, young voters made up 11% of the electorate Tuesday compared to 15% in 2016. Sanders won 43% of those voters Tuesday compared to 54% four years ago.

In Tennessee, 11% of those voters showed up Tuesday versus 15% in 2016. Sanders did better among that group Tuesday winning 65% compared to 61% four years ago.

In Virginia, young voters comprised 13% of Tuesday’s vote compared to 16% in 2016. Sanders won 57% of those voters Tuesday compared to 69% four years ago.

Even Sanders’ home state of Vermont showed a lackluster turnout of young millennials and 'Gen Zers.' Only 10% of the state’s electorate were under 30 compared to 15% when he ran against Clinton, according to exit polls.

And a similar trend was playing out in Texas where 16% of voters were between 17 and 29 compared to 20% in 2016.

Sanders is similarly electable to more moderate candidates. But, on closer inspection, it shows that this finding relies on some remarkable assumptions about youth turnout that past elections suggest are questionable.

Who could have possibly predicted that unrelenting hostility and condescension towards everyone not immediately part of your coalition when your coalition is already a minority doesn't actually work to expand your coalition?

Maybe telling all Hillary voters that they were corrupt agency-free hacks voting with their vaginas wasn't a productive activity when those people were an absolute majority of the voting base you need, who the fuck knows.

Considering that most people rallied around biden over the past few days and people have been saying this stuff for years, i dont think this impacted much of anything at all. People threw in with biden after a week of comrade bernie frontrunner scaremongering, not some kind of slow boiling backlash to how bernie has handled the minutiae.

really excited for the one on one debates where biden can't finish a single sentence and exposes himself as a deranged old man who is losing his mind on live tv, and instead of saving this old coot from embarrassment the party pretends he's the strongest candidate in the history of the world.

Some people, sure.

But I assure you, there is a slow boiling backlash to how Sanders handled some of the minutiae. There is a contingent of Dem voters that resents Sanders for dragging out the 2016 primary for months after Hillary clinched and partially blames him for the loss. These people were highly motivated to vote against Sanders. No amount of pretending to be confused about how this could be the case, deflecting to 2008, or telling them their feelings are just invalid was going to change this - quite the fucking opposite in fact.

I have the patience of a saint and came around to vote Bernie in spite of my grudge, but many people are not as gracious as I am.

Yeah, I don't think your demographic of spurned campaign trail tea leaf readers represent a large chunk of the electorate. I'm not saying Sanders hasnt pissed people off, every candidate has, I just think people watched the news and the news told them to vote for Biden and here we are.

The Bernie coalition needed a lot more shostas and a lot fewer nachobros and Timus.

Shosta worked patiently with me during our regular FB chats, addressed my concerns, and ultimately got me to vote Sanders. The rest of you told me to go fuck myself.

More of the shosta strategy could have brought in more reticent moderate voters. Maybe. What the fuck do I know.

Go fuck yourself, glen. You had to get convinced to give me healthcare.  :lol

It worked with depressed youth turnout, surprisingly a voting block that’s very connected constantly being told by the media their candidate has no chance makes people feel hopeless.  Youth turnout is what any dem candidate needs to win these days and instead of embracing the candidate who motivates those voters we go with the guy who boomers love.  Fantastic strategy, it backfired badly in 2016 partly due to luck, it’s gonna backfire way worse this time.
