The violence in the early days scared the shit out of people hence the renewed focus on conflict-free, inoffensive peaceful marches that the majority of the political and business establishment can voice support for and (they hope) will sap the movement of any radical energies before eventually resolving into apathy

It sucks for the local business owners who can't just pay or get everything fixed up with their insurance, but that violence and destruction is the only thing that gets the attention of the people whose attention it needs to get, as the state values property and business more than humans and they'd much rather stop businesses getting busted than black (or any other people) getting busted.

I've been holding off on posting this because it's an ugly thought but the protestors are not in an at-risk demographic, maybe their parents are, but hopefully the ones that went out will be able to socially distance themselves after the fact.  However, the cops that arrested them, will be more in the at-risk demographic.

Whether that results from genetics, healthcare shortfalls, discrepancy in healthy living options or some other cause remains to be seen.

The black population is more at risk because the black community has higher rates of the comorbidities that make COVID deadlier due to black areas traditionally having less access to good nutrition and medicine due to....you know, not good reasons. These reasons are also why black communities are often in dense, urban areas where people rely on public transportation.
