Kodak still does chemical film though I don't know how much they're profiting off that. Fuji, which was the other big name, moved away from film except for archiving purposes (they've been destocking all their remaining film types since a few years but don't produce any for shooting productions) but they're a much more solid chemical company overall and diversified long ago (they have some fancy cosmetics for example, Astalift). Kodak name has been licenced for a bunch of cheap, gimmick ventures long ago apart from that, IIRC.

If Kodak had collapsed there would have been some regrettable consequences and losses for movie history though that is not an economic assessment in the slightest. I would imagine it played a bit in getting some public money in.

Probably a pretty dreadful record with pollution too, that goes without saying.
