Scott Pruitt is my state's Attorney General. What's incredible about this appointment (and others) is it has never been a better time to be a mediocre minor league Republican who was never going to be groomed for actual power. Appointing Scott Pruitt to head the EPA would be like appointing someone who wants to dismantle public education as Education Secretary. Oh, wait.

What'll happen at the end of four years, when not only will the MAGA fans still be unemployed, but general unemployment numbers will be up?

Theyll vote for him again because his policies need more time to take effect

Trump is radicalizing me
I dislike how this election and pre-inauguration has really allowed so many people to feel that those icky feelings they've repressed for so long are actually acceptable. These are problems they could have worked through, but are instead parading around under the banner of normalcy. Of "decency." It has evoked the most childish response in me: OK, if that's alright for you to do, here are the things I've been holding back on. I've never wanted to hurt people as badly as I do right now, and I feel ashamed of it.

The truth of it is that all of us have things at our core which are not appropriate for sharing. All of us get along in society as a whole by operating within a complex set of rules. Everyone (them, too) must find our way back to tolerance if not acceptance. But I fear I'm going to end up getting killed while smashing the shit out of neo-jackboots if I see others being bullied.

all i know is i learned it in modern american history class. i mean, besides college there's also the fact that during the olympics and other intl. events taiwan clearly wants separation from china where they're labeled "chinese taipei". I'm shocked someone running for president wouldn't know something so basic in the international level. this has been a major point for china and taiwan and america for literally decades.

Who needs (((higher education))) when there's free resources like the internet

 USA:(Image removed from quote.)

 Rest of the World: CUCKS

On serious note: Higher education is going to have to change.

It's honestly just a scheme to get youth to gamble thousands of dollars they don't have on the future job market. You don't get what you pay for in the matter of education. That's a sunk cost. You are going into debt on the hopes of the job you get afterwards. A lot of information can be found online, and while some is restricted behind paywalls, the paywalls themselves are likely far less than the cost of college. You do the deal for a certificate that is gradually going down in status and worth. As higher education becomes more of a business, the less standards it can have. You do not revoke customers at the checkout line as long as the credit card goes through.

Beware of believing Trump dumber than he actually is. He tweeted in 2011 that Obama was wrong to withhold F16 fighter planes sales from Taiwan because it was the wrong signal to senc to the PRC. He was obviously aware of the basic facts about the island then.

So then why?

Why what ? Signalling a pro-Taiwan message ? Bush the lesser did something similar in April 2001 with a "vow to defend" the island and it was, not unlike Trump's call, perceived as a break in accepted usage (or poor choice of words due to inexperience). Trump one upped that with his... trademark boldness but apart from the questionable method & etiquette, it's not too hard to speculate some rationale (beyond Trump being played by some pro-Taiwan lobbies) where it makes sense : for instance if you plan on being (or appearing) tougher on the People's Republic of China. Which certainly seems coherent with a lot of the stuff he said in the past and during the campaign.

Not everyone agrees with pretending Taiwan doesn't exist as a sovereign nation just because China says otherwise.

Same as nonsense about Cuba. Iran. Etc. Foreign policy "consensus" always has a convenient "local politics" escape hatch.

Even the Concert of Europe had one.

I went to the official site for Trump campaign ( :doge) and here's what his "foreign policy" speech contains about the People's Republic of China :

Quote
President Obama watches helplessly as North Korea increases its aggression and expands even further with its nuclear reach. Our president has allowed China to continue its economic assault on American jobs and wealth, refusing to enforce trade rules – or apply the leverage on China necessary to rein in North Korea. He has even allowed China to steal government secrets with cyber attacks and engage in industrial espionage against the United States and its companies. We’ve let our rivals and challengers think they can get away with anything.

Quote
It seemed we put more effort into adding China to the World Trade Organization – which has been a disaster for the United States – than into stopping Al Qaeda.

Quote
Fixing our relations with China is another important step towards a prosperous century. China respects strength, and by letting them take advantage of us economically, we have lost all of their respect. We have a massive trade deficit with China, a deficit we must find a way, quickly, to balance.

Maybe half of it was written by a policy wonk, but it does ring true with the character.

I disagree with the whole "embrace" "listen" "understand" bullshit.

Our society is not comfortable with the concept of intelligence.

Say "Kobe is better at basketball than you" and the person will agree
Say "I am better at basketball than you" and the person may not agree, but will after we play a quick game

Rinse and repeat for strength, speed...any physical ability. X is stronger than me. Ok! Y can run faster, sure after we did a sprint I agree.

But try "X is smart than you"

OH FUCK NO

Try and prove it by competing in a test?

OH FUCK NO

We have a society where we accept that everyone has different physical skills, but somehow we're supposed to accept that everybody is on the same plane mentally.

And thats the problem.

Kobe Bryant would gain nothing by "engaging" me or "understanding me" if I claimed I was better at basketball than him. It would be a waste of his time. He would tell me to fuck off if I tried to challenge him on that.

So why are we expected to waste our time engaging with people who are mental simpletons?

If you believe the pizzagate bullshit, then you are mentally deficient. Case closed.

If you believe that trickle down economics can work, then you are not smart. Period.

Its time we accept this. Its time we realize that many, if not most Trump voters are mentally simple. The average IQ is 100 right? That means there are tens of millions of people sitting under a 90, many of whom probably hit the R button every election.

There is nothing to gain in a conversation. These people need to either be tricked into voting for the best candidate or excluded from the process.

"Why do people keep voting against their interests?"

Because they're idiots. Not in the insult way, in the medical definition way.

I wasn't necessarily ok with other things they did. I was vocal about them quite often. But Linda giving Trump 3 million during his campaign while having a company face with an anti-bully motto? Yeah, it bothers me that the WWE basically gave money to the Trump campaign - a campaign that ran on hate and fear. I will not reward those efforts. Sorry if that triggers you.

Yes, obviously I'm the triggered one. Linda and Vince have been giving money to Trump for 30 years. Suddenly getting huffy about it in 2016 is pretty silly.

His plan is to (intentionally) burn bridges with China by acting stupid and crude so that he can make them out into a boogeyman. Which makes sense to do if he expects the US economy to do shitty. Considering he's the man "in charge"....

I'm hoping the economy does go through a recession but not a deep one. I feel like most of the big proposals he has will take years to really cause damage as long as liberals don't buckle to compromise.

Linda BA* McMahon hasn't been involved with WWE for 7 years. BA* started after she left the company and she had no involvement with it. Everyone has known Donald Trump is a piece of shit and a crook for 30 years, so no, I don't think comparing the last 30 years to the last 2 makes me look like a dumbass. Drawing the line at the last 2 years of support for Donald Trump while willfully ignoring the previous 28 and decades of terrible racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic programming produced and propagated by WWE and the McMahons is the most arbitrary line in the sand possible to make a stand on when it comes to WWE.

And how do you intend to learn what needs to be done in order to "trick" these "mentally deficient" imbeciles to vote for your preferred candidate?

Id start by reading the Art of the Deal. Then Id turn on TLC to see what keeps them entertained.

Remember how the elite mocked Trump for bringing on the Duck Dynasty idiots into the fray?

Well, birds of a feather. You want idiot voters, you show them idiot role models.

Incidentally, populist candidates in Latin America have mastered the art of extracting the vote from low information voters. Its not apples to apples though, as many of them are low information due to a bad school system and poverty, and not necessarily due to a low IQ. Call up the Chavez and Lula campaign managers and and bring them on board.

News update from our boy ROCKY

In Nevada, the partial recount should be completed by the end of the week. If it shows over a one percent difference in votes for De La Fuente, it will trigger a statewide recount, and in De La Fuente’s case, his existing vote count is so low that as few as three votes could be enough.

Government might shutdown because of Democratic Senators over coal miner health insurance.  The House passed the CR yesterday and skipped town so odds of Democrats getting what they want is very slim. I doubt it will shutdown, but if the CR isn't passed by Senate today the federal government is closed tomorrow:

This is what dems should do.

You all should be paying attention to this shit. That is some dangerous door opening. State wants to filter information flow and is putting pressure on social media companies to do it for them if they don't get their way via the passing of bills.

The coordination of this with the narrative should alert people. WashPo put out that article on secret Russian propaganda agents without verifying it, got called out, and then did a wishy-washy backpedal. They set out the idea without evidence, then start a bill, and have a political figure speak to its importance.

All after losing an election.

That's one thing, but Mike Pence wanted to start a state run news service here in Indiana before he was even in the running for VP where he would have the final say of anything that got reported. This is ultimately going to be something the American public is going to have to fend off from both sides in the coming decade.

I've noticed that all these right-wing populist shit bags keep going on and on about free speech but at the same time give off authoritarian vibes who just wanna shut people the fuck up whenever they want to.

Dude, you were young in the 60's and 70's. It was pretty much the only time it ever happened, if it ever really did all that much.

the late Justice Antonin Scalia said while he doesn’t like the practice [of flag burning], “we have a First Amendment, which says that the right of free speech shall not be abridged.”

(In this same speech today Trump said he wants to find a Supreme Court nominee “that is as close to Justice Scalia as possible.”)

In both cases, William J. Brennan wrote the majority opinion, joined by Thurgood Marshall, Harry Blackmun, Antonin Scalia, and Anthony Kennedy (Kennedy also authored a separate concurrence in Johnson), and the dissenters in both cases were then-Chief Justice William Rehnquist (who authored a dissent in Johnson), and Justices John Paul Stevens (who authored dissents in both cases), Byron White and Sandra Day O'Connor.
i love when the SC puts up lineups like those :lawd

i think there was a case not so long ago where the dissenters were RBG, Scalia, Sotomeyer, and Thomas :aah

From 1995 to 2005, beginning with the 104th Congress, the proposed amendment was approved biennially by the two-thirds majority necessary in the U.S. House of Representatives, but it consistently failed to achieve the same constitutionally-required super-majority vote in the U.S. Senate. During some sessions, the proposed amendment did not even come to a vote in the Senate before the expiration of the Congress' term. The last time it was considered, in the 109th Congress, the Amendment failed by one vote in the Senate. Some Senate Republican aides indicated that almost a dozen of the Republican senators who voted for the amendment were privately opposed to it, and they believed that these senators would have voted to defeat the amendment if required.

This is all just an attempt at baiting anti trumpsters into burning flags outside of his rallies at which point his supporters will start firing at the 'disruptors' and thus... make it unsafe for him to hold his rallies? I'm not sure what the end game is here. ???

An article on US-Russia relations under Obama or really about the power dynamics between Putin and Medveded during the latter's tenure as President. Kremlinology not dead.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2016/12/09/the-russian-reset-that-never-was-putin-obama-medvedev-libya-mikhail-zygar-all-the-kremlin-men/

Quote
For its part, the new U.S. administration tried to offer the Kremlin assurances that the mutual resentment of the Bush era was history. Speaking in February 2009 at the Munich security conference, Vice President Joe Biden said Russia and the United States should press the “reset button on their relationship.” A month later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met in Geneva, where Clinton gave her counterpart a symbolic button they were to press together. Printed on the button was the word “reset” in both English and Russian. Unfortunately, the Russian version was misspelled, and instead of “reset” (perezagruzka) it said “overload” (peregruzka). Lavrov explained the mistake to his embarrassed colleague but still agreed to press it, joking that he would “try to prevent system overload in Russian-U.S. relations.”

I'm not super convinced by the conclusion that Russia seriously feels they are being expelled from the Powers circle (though indeed she is being assertive).
