I was a lurker for years too.
Alright, alright! Just so everyone knows, it was this post that pulled me from the guest list and made me sign up in earnest! Blame Pepinappe! I didn’t see an introduction thread, so hopefully this isn’t out of line.
Unlike most of you, I’ve never been an actual member of NeoGAF; however, I did lurk the hell out of the place since at least 2006. At first I was content to watch from the sidelines, but around 2013 or so I finally tried my hand at signing up, but my account was never confirmed.
So most of my experience with GAF is from far away, all the while observing interesting folks like Ethelred, Segata Sanshiro, Anihawk and Vinnk, and laughing my ass off at megaton/meltdown threads like Dragon Quest 9 going to DS or Devil May Cry 4 going multi-platform. It was amazing. Essentially, I was dragged in by Sales-Age, and stayed for the people. (I remember you KING MOKU- and I remember your moku train, too!)
The forum got to be like a warm blanket that was always there no matter what, and it was a great time killer- checking GAF for news or reading those bizarrely intricate Mama Robotnik threads about Eternal Darkness or Legacy of Kain was just too addicting.
The downward slide of the last few years, even to an outsider, has been impossible to miss. Seeing so many familiar faces here and over at the new ReinvigoratedEpeens forum has given me fuzzy feelings, though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling a little melancholy over seeing GAF go full modern day Simpsons before our very eyes.
As a small aside, those Evilore/ Tenumi ban images and the Hitokage talk a few pages back got me thinking of that time. Despite going to PonyGAF directly to invite them to make submissions for that NeoGAF T-shirt contest he was running around then, it was quite a surprise when EL just unloaded with anger on that community the way he did. Most of PonyGAF ended up walking on eggshells around the OT and changed avatars after that, but then this post was made, 2 months after Hitokage passed away:

Anyway, thanks to everyone here at the Bore for making it easier to pull away from zombie GAF. I’ll stick around for sure.
And uh...FFIV = FFVI = FFIX > FFVII > FFXV > FFXIV and the rest kinda blur together. My favorite spinoff is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles The Crystal Bearers. Waggle aside, the story is tight and fun and not overly wrought like modern FF. Plz no ban.
