I'm fine with the basis of your statement;  but the doctors you talk to are going to be going on the experience of their trans patients.

So it's kind of dumb to say that trans people's experiences shouldn't be very "weighty" in the equation;  they are essentially the main part of what the doctors are going on.

This is extremely bad logic for an issue as complicated as young kids trying to explore their feelings of sexuality and gender. In no way should anyone suggest trusting a community of people over the training of doctors, but especially when dealing with something as fluid as experiencing feelings of gender dysphoria for the first time.

It's not dumb at all to defer to the knowledge of people trained to take the medical experiences of a marginal community and put those experiences into scientific practice. That's the fucking smartest thing anyone can do, to suggest otherwise is just anti-intellectual.

Especially at the fringes of medical experience and practice. These doctors are collaborating to create best practices based on the sum of all knowledge in the field up to that point. While the community would clearly have valuable knowledge and advice, they should never be trusted more than professionals.
