So there's already another culture war forming this time around Captain Marvel and it made me realize how strangely arbitrary it is. Like Battle Angel Alita launched just a week ago and also pushed a lot for "girl power" and yet no one really cared. Neither the people who complain that there are no female led comic book movies and neither the people who are mad about diversity.

if we're to have an honest conversation about this, it's pretty clear what the problem is and it's always been consistent, the internet male brigade only really gets mad when male characters are gender swapped and promoted to be better or in this case that brie larson keeps talking shit about white males. The reason things like Alita, Wonder Woman and Anihalition is left untouched even if heavily girl power oriented is because they aren't doing so at the 'expense' of internet males. These people don't care if girl power is pushed they only care if it slights them or used to be a franchise they liked and were the demographic for previously.

Not to care post because  but I find nationality stripping horrendous and in this case pretty disgusting as it feels like pure cynical convenience from European governments to leave them stranded over there. Everyone should be entitled to a fair trial on clear, lawful, charges. Not necessarily at home but the few things I gathered from Iraqi justice and jailing conditions doesn't strike me as up to the sort of basic standard decency we claim to uphold. Does being the wife of a ISIS djihadist in itself a crime (provided the person hasn't commited any other illegal acts besides) ? Are their children guilty ? I'm not convinced and those should absolutely be repatriated if they are willing so, facing legal consequences if need be.

Of course it's not easy and convenient to manage radicals and I understand the purported security risk attached but I have a hard time believing a few hundreds people (which AFAIK is the total of all European prisoners currently in Irak's custody and being discussed recently) are above a threshold of "utterly unmanageable" on a continent whose recent history is littered with bitter wars.

It's right down the same alley as drone strikes. I don't think anyone should be cheerful that people can be stripped of their citizenship (and all protections they may entail) at the drop of a hat because your government feels like it.
