The Importance of Being Respectful

Please be respectful when posting in threads. This includes when you post about the topic at hand and especially when you address other members. Do not make unfounded and inflammatory accusations to discredit and/or antagonize your fellow members (such calling them a shill, astroturfer, etc). Do not shame users based on their post count, avatar choice, or what community they belong to.

So yeah Riotous reading up on Shadow pcs streaming that’s basically what I want in a cloud only streaming future. It sounds like they let you install whatever you want it’s just literally a streaming high performance win10 vm. Could azure run something like that? I know nothing about it but my idea would be basically having a cloud pc I was admin on that has the tech to spin extra blades up to tighten up the graphics on level 3 if I needed it.

Of course it costs $35 a month to rent. I guess we know what the true cost is based on the flops to dollar ratio now.

“White supremacy or white supremacism is the racist belief that white people are superior to people of other races and therefore should be dominant over them”

Now maybe I’ve completely missed it but I don’t recall video game streamer PDP spouting off about whitey being better than other skin colors.

A Gamer Play in Three Acts:
https://www.resetera.com/threads/at-which-critical-juncture-will-you-abandon-gaming-completely.150167/
Quote from: banshee150
With exploitative capitalistic milking machines such as Fifa and COD pushing the same game every year and the overabundance of MTX and GaaS elements, at which point do you expect this to become a uniform situation where you will have short, nonsubstantive campaigns complemented by mostly MP modes, propped up by genres that owe their existence to the online infrastructure alone that dilute, exploit and distort the gaming medium to the point that in the future all we will have to play are online GaaS with no SP and just endless whales and Destiny-esque season passes and updates?

Will you then rise up again this nonsense or just abandon the fight?
I mean, 99 percent of people hate doing that and they do it under duress for scraps while the rich keep getting richer and exploiting everyone under the sun.

How can anyone defend capitalism when schools are useless degree mills, trades will all be automated soon enough and you are always at 100 percent downside for losing a job and having to be humiliated by the "safety" nets.

I am not advocating for everyone, with or without a job to live a life of luxury by doing nothing (would be nice tho!) but you shouldnt need labor to not jeopardize your life.

How can anyone defend capitalism? Its the most pernicious system ever foisted upon mankind. Its the source of all ills and all evils and its staunchest architects and defenders are disgusting peope who would let you die and suffer if that means they can pass another tax break or get some kickback money.

They say capitalism and democracy are the lesser forms of evil but thats the worst euphemism out there.

How else can you describe a noxious system where totally artificial made up concepts (i.e money) get to decide the fate of everyone and the course of their lives?

Its pathetic to say the least that as the world is heading towards an irreversible climate catastrophy, things are getting even worse.

Zombie: They don’t really offer machines like that in Azure  with gaming GPUs and they don’t have any high frame rate remote / streaming in place for VMs.

Watching a YouTube even from a vm is immediately choppy because RDP isn’t suited for that.  These streaming techs use special video encoding and input servers.

There’s alternatives to RDP you can install on the VMs themselves but I don’t think they’d offer an experience nearly as good as what the game streaming companies are doing.

Hmm maybe that’s why they are using consoles on a blade for xcloud right now? I’m thinking in the far future they would adapt the console/pc os to a more dynamic compute method? Like you have your windows cloud machine but pull in a few extra Machines to handle more physics. Or maybe the VM would just know to dynamically allocate more of the underlying physical blades hardware based on the game running?

If streaming takesoff consoles are on borrowed time imo, you can’t mod their games, all their value as a device is based playing a game without the hassle of pc, and for cheaper. If they’ve got the connection and are already used to the higher latency from HDTVs using controllers, then taking out the $500 box just to play a game is a no brainer to me.

I think the shit is really gonna hit the fan when Nintendo announces their own service. The switch already uses streaming in Japan for resident evil 7. Then you will have 3/3 of the console makers with their own cloud services.

Yeah I’m guessing in the future (decade/s?) they will have an emulation solution for it all. Like now days our current hardware yawns while running DosBOX that’s running a game that 30 years ago crippled even top of the line PCs.

Well maybe, depending on if they can find a breakthrough to kick start Moore’s law again.

They're using xbox hardware because the xbox division are a huge fucking flop and they can shuffle whatever the cost of millions of xboxes they will never sell but have a guaranteed purchase order for AMD parts for into their profitable Cloud divisions costs instead of taking their own hit on them.
It makes literally zero sense; its a completely unscalable solution. But thats just tip of the iceberg stuff for fuckups from the Xbox division this gen.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/eminem-and-joyner-lucas-team-up-for-thought-provoking-and-insightful-classic-what-if-i-was-gay.149854/

I’m pretty confused by this thread.

The song is about two lifelong friends, the first guy opens up about being gay to his best friend (eminem) who is in complete denial that his best friend could be gay and it also seems that his friend comitted suicide over it? Eminem’s character is incredulous, he’s coming up with every typical argument in the book, he regrets confronting his now dead friend about being gay, and he wishes he could take back what he said.

He’s full of regrets (« i left my best friend die alone »), and then he slowly admits to himself that he is gay himself (« im fighting my own demons »),  « can’t it be cured with a prayer? »), and he’s starting to reject his christian values that led him to hurt his friends (« born again christian? But god we’re gonna collde »)

How can the song be interpreted as being pro-homophobia? It’s a demonstration of how toxic hyper masculinity can be, the dangers of closed mindness and so on.

Why are they having such a basic first degree interpretation of the lyrics?

But Peter Thiel didn't do that?

This hilarious thing is that Thiel spent a mere $10 million, total, on multiple lawsuits Gawker was facing. Which is like couch change in major corporate lawsuits, especially for a billionaire. It's pretty amazing that was all that was apparently needed to get all the way through trial. The only one that brought him anything was the Hogan suit. And he didn't even get the jury award of $140 million.

Univision Communications bought Gawker Media's assets for $135 million at a bankruptcy auction on August 16, 2016.[39] The sale to Univision included six Gawker websites—Deadspin, Gizmodo, Jalopnik, Jezebel, Kotaku and Lifehacker—which were not involved with the publication of the Bollea materials.

...

On November 2, 2016, Gawker Media and Bollea reached a $31 million settlement.
Gawker had way more than $10 million at hand, even AFTER they got BTFO, yet these idiots think Thiel somehow spent unlimited money to crush a tiny little company.

This is why $10 million in legal fees could somehow blow the fuck out of the company, it was endlessly in debt without any assets:
Quote
In 2015, Gawker Media LLC released its audited revenue for the past five years.[15] In 2010, its revenue was $20 million and operating income of $2.6 million.[15] Gawker Media's revenues steadily increased through 2014 and its audited revenue for 2014 was $45 million with $6.5 million operating income.[15] Business Insider valued the company at $250 million based upon its 2014 revenue.[16] In early 2015, Denton stated that he planned to raise $15 million in debt from various banks so as not to dilute his equity stake in the company by accepting investments from venture capital firms.[16]

In June 2016, Gawker Media revealed its corporate finances in a motion for a stay of judgment pending appeal and accompanying affidavits filed in the Bollea v. Gawker case in Florida state court. In the filings, the company stated that it could not afford to pay the $140.1 million judgment or the $50 million appeal bond.[17] The company's balance sheet at the time reflected total assets of $33.8 million ($5.3 million cash, $11.9 million accounts receivable, $12.5 million fixed assets), total current liabilities of $27.7 million; and total long-term liabilities of $22.8 million.[17] A bond broker stated in an affidavit that the company's book value was $10 million.[17]

Not a huge surprise, but a ton of people clearly don't understand how economy works. Deadspin and Kotaku are business. Their job isn't to uncover the truth, preach or stick it to the man. They have to make money in order to keep the lights on and the staff paid. If the staff doesn't make money (...)
Do we know that they don't? The writers can see the metrics. And are presumably paid bonues based on clicks. It's in their own self-interest to write stories people want to read. Or click on, at the very least... They've been around for a while, so I assume they know what works for them and their audience.

This seems more an issue of the suits wanting to squeeze more out of them with intrusive ads (and perhaps a change in editorial direction). Which they're entitled to, but for right now it seems to have backfired, considering the Deadspin walkout.

No, I don't think we know. What we do know is that their owners weren't happy with what they were doing, and that's ultimately what matters. And while the staff claims their CEO is just an asshole who simply doesn't want to see the "truth", that seems extremely reductive and hard to believe. I mean, he might be an asshole, sure, but if those publications made boatloads of cash, I'm pretty fucking sure he wouldn't give a single fuck what those clowns write. Their owners are "evil rich old men", remember - just like the executives at Disney. And those assholes don't give a fuck either.

Why are you only accounting for $10 million instead of the $140+ million judgment  (or $50 million or whatever that appeal bond means) against them?
Thiel didn't know he'd get anything out of funding the lawsuits. He just paid for the legal expenses of multiple people, including Hogan, suing Gawker. It wasn't even a loan. He didn't get any of that judgment or settlement. That's why he celebrated when it was announced they lost but before the amount was known, Gawker couldn't afford losing period.

Seeing as Asdrubal Cabrera is basically the James of the nationals, that’s at least one player going :nope

FACT CHECK:  james has never turned an unassisted triple play. :bolo

But he does bang 16 year olds, stop ruining my joke that probably you and maybe 2 other people on this forum would have understood.

Libel is illegal, and I have Benji on retainer exactly to go after this kind of horrible transgression.

Be warned, the last time someone dared libel me here, they were permed

It’s only libel if I know it to be false :ufup

I can't believe its [CURRENT_YEAR] and dumbfucks are still playing the old "but if we don't let gawker get away with recklessly fucking peoples lives up with zero fucks given for journalistic integrity, then the press will forever be scared to needlessly publicly out privately homosexual billionaires for a business grudge!" song and dance, when you have weinstein exposed and the fucking president - the fucking poster child for petty vindictive rich people - is further exposed on a daily basis.

I guess I'm just confused what you are debating in that (admittedly dumb for other reasons) post.

The person said Thiel had unlimited money, not that he spent unlimited money.
The person is fearmongering about fascism in a case that has nothing to do with it and is trying to smear a gay man for something Gawker brought upon itself that he barely had anything to do with. That's my problem with the post.
