I think Valve's strategy is better in the longterm but then what is the longterm?
Regular profit?

Valve and Epic were in this industry for a long time before they became storefronts. Epic ran a profitable and prolific engine licensing enterprise, on top of their development arm, for like twenty years.

Regular profit doesn’t excite shareholders :hhh
Valve remains a private company though.

Oxygen Not Included is no longer available for sale. The game is simply not listed on the store anymore, and even if you have it in your library you can’t open the store page anymore. This is similar to how Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has been removed from the sale by Paradox Interactive, who didn’t want to take part in the sale, as we reported earlier.
I thought Epic was footing the bill for the $10 discount? Did they not even run this past their partners or what?

Valve sends out the sale stuff like months in advance so everyone is ready, that's why it always leaks. Plus, at this point, I think you can just automatically set a bunch of stuff that triggers. I know of a developer who forgot and their game wasn't on sale until people asked about it and they put it up for 50% off like in two minutes.

I think this can put to rest some fears about Tencent, who at least know how to run a storefront. :doge
