Dead Rising seemed like a fluke regarding how great the first one was. The series immediately lost me when co op and combo weapon crafting was introduced in 2. Along with using a similar setting, it felt like the series was sent to mediocrity right away.
Like, today in my head, a dream Dead Rising game:
Tropical setting
Setting revolves around 3 main areas
Cruise ship, resort island nearby, and the open ocean
3 days, overtime mode is strictly the island, and eventually an underground lab/research facility.
Zombies on island, zombies also come from the depths of the ocean and come up on the beach (elite, older zombies), zombie fish and sharks.
At night, island becomes borderline inhabitable, must retreat to cruise ship. Tower defense styled mode at night where you defend the cruise ship from zombies and bigger zombie fish/whales.
Use zombies and food as bait to kill or capture zombie fish.
Story is the US government wanted to conduct top secret research on zombified tuna. Reasoning being if it's successful or a failure, the public wouldn't know because it's harder to uncover mysteries from the ocean. (In line with the satirical story from 1).
Main character is a teenager that's visiting his fisherman dad. He lives on resort island where he runs a fishing operation. On a routine fishing trip, the son notices something odd floating and wants to investigate. Takes a smaller boat to see it's a zombie. As this is happening, a infected whale destroys his father's ship and eats everyone on board. Son sees a cruise ship in the distance, races towards it.
No co-op, no combo cards, simple survival recipes/crafting, focus is on building shit on the cruise ship and upgrading that over combo cards.
Dead Rising would also be a clever name, because it'd literally be dead bodies in the ocean rising to the top and coming to shore
Also, very open world, where you travel in between those three areas constantly.
