A global study has found strong evidence that a new form of the coronavirus has spread from Europe to the US. The new mutation makes the virus more likely to infect people but does not seem to make them any sicker than earlier variations of the virus, an international team of researchers reported Thursday.

"It is now the dominant form infecting people," Erica Ollmann Saphire of the La Jolla Institute for Immunology and the Coronavirus Immunotherapy Consortium, who worked on the study, told CNN.

"This is now the virus."

So basically it's as deadly but easier to spread. The rest of the article goes into some of the studies done so far and talks about the various mutation possibilities that would cause immunologists greatest concern.

It doesn't seem to say whether the G mutant shows up on the same tests or if you're immune to one strain, then you're immune to the other.

Yeah, there's this mistaken notion somehow kids can't get COVID, or that they're mostly immune. It is true so far that most children identified so far being positive with coronavirus are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, but that doesn't mean coronavirus can't affect children.

Orange County Board of Education is going to release guidance that masks and social distancing can't happen with students. Cases among school staff and students are going to explode once schools are back.

If Orange County public schools resume in-person instruction in the fall, the county's Department of Education has advised schools to "encourage" students to wear masks and face coverings "to the extent feasible."

Board members are now moving to publish their own set of guidelines that — according to this document — will advise OC schools that "requiring children to wear masks during school is not only impossible to implement but not based on science and could be potentially harmful." Lopez said he was unsure how many people went to the party, but that Macias was among more than a dozen people who contracted COVID-19.

Macias visited his sister Veronica, who is married to Lopez, on June 11 at the couple's home, before he was tested. Lopez remembers being concerned for Macias after that visit.

"He did not look right," Lopez said. "He was really sweaty."

but seriously, as to the guy that died, why would you go out to a goddamned PARTY when you apparently were following the lockdown orders early on? it seems some people NEED to be told what to do, sadly.

The navy keeps sailors at sea for only a few months. Why? Because being stuck in one place for too long does actual mental toil. This is why if we had actual national leadership early we could have contained this. Now it's July and many people have been at home without jobs and nothing to do for months. After a certain point you'll get tired of it and become more lax.

Even I, who wanted to keep safe this entire time, went to protests. The longer this goes on the more people will die, because no one is built for lockdown shit for too long without going stir crazy. We need to contain it immediately for that reason.

A Clay County Judge has ruled in favor of Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia), voiding Gov. JB Pritzker's executive orders in response to COVID-19.

Over two hours of debate in the Clay County courthouse led to Judge Michael McHaney ruling Pritzker's executive orders since April 8 are now invalid. That comes from Bailey's argument that Pritzker's emergency powers ran out 30 days after his initial emergency declaration.

That's not the message senior administration officials said they're preparing, and some of the president's allies have cringed when he's talked in the past about the virus disappearing, only to then see it further spread.

One official said moving the briefing locations is an attempt to minimize questions from the White House press corps. Another said it was also designed to prevent Trump from being tempted to take over the briefings.

Some of Trump's allies had lamented that he was hurting himself politically by spending sometimes two hours at the podium sparring with reporters and often veering off topic, rather than conveying a specific message about the pandemic.

Two days ago there was this: Trump's aides debate a new virus approach as President claims it will 'disappear'

Yet despite the clear signs of trouble, Trump and his aides appear split over whether the President should spend more time and energy in confronting the pandemic.

Trump himself suggested in an interview Wednesday the virus may take care of itself.

"I think we're going to be very good with the coronavirus. I think that at some point that's going to sort of just disappear," he said.

Meadows, Kushner and White House counselor Hope Hicks continue to recommend that Trump largely steer clear of the issue. Pence and trade adviser Peter Navarro are pushing the President to take on a more active role, warning the soaring number of cases could cause major disruptions across the country, according to one adviser as well as one other source close to the White House.

Sounds like we're finding out who won that debate. The upside is after another week of shitty polling they'll be back to the drawing board.

I think this is just another part of his narcissism, where because even if he gets it he's going to get the best treatment of literally any human in the world so he doesn't need to worry about it, so he doesn't give a fuck about anyone else that will not get that treatment and should worry about it. I also think he truly believes he can just will everyone to ignore it/get over it because he said so.
