This graph seems to suggest that Germany is on the same trend than Italy or France for growing fatalities, if you align it to start on when the tenth fatality occured.

Germany is more populous than France, Italy, UK or Spain so it's still better per capita and they started with social distancing a week or more ago so maybe it won't become as bad before they plateau deaths.

It's been speculated that early clusters started with young people coming back from ski vacations and that Germany tested more early, so maybe that's why there's so much lag (relative to other countries) between the confirmed cases and the fatality curves.

No certainties in any of this.

Started early with diagnosis, alot of ICU beds and ventilators, the big peak was in a rather small town with only like 150k people living there and they went onto lockdown pretty fast. Alot of the other cases were people that got back from holidays or work in affected regions. Was already mentioned, but the ski holiday people really fucked everything up. Think they made the the majority of cases in Norway and they helped to spread it in Germany quite heavy.
Another case of horrible imports from Austria.

Anyway, the biggest factor is certainly the age. The big share of people that got it are people under 60.
