Yeah, it's only gotten worse over the past couple days now that Bernie's candidacy is in jeopardy. The basic libs, who are just interested in gotchas and telling you why change can't happen, are coming out of the woodwork. And I'm just talking about the Primary thread here. I hear PoliERA is an absolute cesspool, but I never go there for my own mental sake.

We were just talking about this over on FranceERA, but it's shocking how many US citizens on ERA aren't willing to even engage in legitimate discussions about how broken and undemocratic their electoral system is. They can't even address the concept of the Democratic party trying to artificially manufacturing consent around a candidate and against another without framing it as "Bernie Bros being sore losers who hate democracy". They're brainwashed children who don't want to think about the broader picture OR the actual specific, dramatic issues their fellow citizens (and immigrant people) are confronted with on a daily basis.

Expect things to become worse as/if Bernie loses more in the coming weeks. They'll just go "lol so much for the progressive coalition ! What a crazy old loser" when they should be sad and angry about it. But hey, as long as they're not part of the dirty poors who'll actually die from lack of healthcare, it's all fair game, right ?

So, I said a story was coming, and here it is. Yes, I use the R-word, and no, I don't apologize for it.

I was at a gaming event today, and some asshole (known as a "problem person" that doesn't get along with people) sitting across the aisle from starts going off about the Democrats are going to nominate a man with serious cognitive decline and how the superdelegates need to stop him if he only ends up with a plurality, and I snapped. I got in his face and told him (aggressively) to "stop spreading garbage because your guy lost. Biden has a fucking stutter. Get over it. It's done. Move on."

His response is, "Are you serious? Are you trolling?" and I just mouthed "fuck you".

Backstory. I grew up with a speech impediment. I got called distinguished mentally-challenged fellow and distinguished mentally-challenged constantly growing up. That I'd see the fucking American Left totally unable to understand that a human being has a stutter and that people would be attacking them en masse, in semi-professional contexts, is just totally triggering to me.

I don't believe that somebody can watch that video and still say with a straight face that Joe Biden is suffering from dementia. There is definitely a physical aspect about controlling a speech impediment, like he says, and that's definitely gone a bit with age for him. But that's a physical aspect, and people that haven't grown up with a speech disability don't know that it actually takes effort and practice and literal exercises to overcome. So, yes, Biden's speech impediment is probably slipping a bit more than it did in 2008. But he's always been "gaffe prone", almost to the extent that it has literally been the key defining feature of his political career.

I'm not going to withstand this political season. This is going to the be the nastiest, most bitter primary in my lifetime, mostly after it is essentially over, and the main vector of attack is going to just ring perpetually in my mind as if people that are supposed to be my allies are calling the guy with a speech impediment a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow. This is going to be so immensely triggering and I just need to check out. I know I'm going to pay attention to models and the such (as I'm something resembling a statistician), but anything beyond that is going to make me burn friendships to the ground. I know which people in my social group spend too much time on Sanders-linked subreddits and Twitter circles, and I just know that if I spend time around them, they are going to say something that is just going to make me go off. It is just totally and absolutely appalling that this is the level of discourse that self-righteous assholes have normalized. It is so vastly beyond anything in the space of inter-liberal squabbles that I've witnessed in my lifetime, and we're only 3 days into the total scorched-Earth burn-it-all-down bitter slog to the convention.

So with that, I'm mostly checking out of politics, until 2021. Some of y'all are really cool people that do a great job of sharing your political knowledge, and PoliEra. This place is (at times) one of the best political related groups (with a curated ignore list), kind of like Pantsuit Nation on Facebook if it at all had a sense of humor.

We need to really rethink the primary cycle, cause having this long drawn out process hasn't helped give recognition to anyone new (as in, not 100% name rec), strengthen the nominee's chances in the general, bring better ideas to the table or anything of the sort that wouldn't have been brought about with a shorter cycle. Like, fuck, what was even the point of all this? We spent the whole primary going nowhere with no one better off for the effort.

At absolute least they'll be getting rid of caucuses and rethinking state order, but really, all of this has been pointless.

I think the main thing you should understand about our point of view is we don't see the WWC as our enemy, but rather a portion of people being taken advantage of and told to target minorities. The upper class pits the poor WWC against the poor minorities in order to sustain their way of living, and the best method of not allowing said upper class to take advantage of both the WWC and minorities is to strip them of their power (wealth) and redistribute that power among everyone so there is no longer a rhetorical leg to stand on when trying to pit the poor against each other. I am totally fine with some white dude in Alabama getting the same access to the same things as long as both our material circumstances improve. It would be incredibly hard for that person or anyone to continue to point at minorities as the source of their problems, especially when their material conditions are met. Identity politics has largely been warped to fit the Neoliberal mindset and make people believe that racism just exists. It only exists because Capitalism necessitates its existence. Stop believing that some people are just inherently bad and accept that their worldview is formed by their upbringing and economic conditions.

Oh really? Can you talk about what is specifically happening? Please, inform and enlighten me from your educated view on Biden in regards to his health.

Because all I've seen is someone getting older, dealing with a stutter, and people shitting on techniques that people with speech impediments use to get through troubled words/phrases without stalling and ruining train of thought/overall ability to talk.

But you seem really informed about this, so I'm interested to hear from an informed point of view.

Because as someone who grew up with a speech impediment, still deals with one, it's actually really gross and really hurtful to have to keep hearing this with people linking videos of Biden having momentary issues with his speech as having dementia, when it's actually now clear that he is dealing with hurdles in day to day speaking, especially on a public platform because of a disability he has been working on his entire life.
