Saw that the other day, the original post had less than a thousand likes and I figured it would get lost in the shuffle.

I'm genuinely glad that former Washington Bullet Rex Chapman used his large following on a microblogging platform to amplify a video of abusive police behavior, so that it might not be totally overshadowed by the resurgent pandemic, or the upcoming speech on race relations by 80's mogul Donald Trump who is somehow president.

Seems to be far less people talking about this compared to the last week or two. The ATL police chief resigned after this, too.

Qualified immunity isn't inherently a problem, because police using appropriate amounts of force to lawfully detain an unwilling suspect shouldn't automatically leave them open to civil suits for things like assault.

What it needs is oversight as to what the qualifiers in qualified immunity are. Qualified immunity should be - as the name implies qualified.
Things like a bodycam that's turned off allowing for indemnification would be a good start.
As would unaffiliated third party oversight determining what constitutes 'reasonable', on a case by case basis.
If a complaints panel determines that kneeling on an otherwise complying suspects neck for 10 minutes is not a reasonable degree of force, then doing that is then not protected under qualified immunity.

We already have unaffiliated third party oversight and it's the judicial system. Don't see how swapping out courts for a "complaints panel" fixes this.

Columbus day is a bit of a de facto Italian-American holiday similar to how St. Patrick's Day is for Irish-Americans. Symbol of them having the old world heritage but still being accepted as part of the American fabric blah blah blah.

If Lincoln had committed to ending slavery earlier we could have had Union General Garibaldi instead. They should just swap in statues of Frank Sinatra or Bon Jovi or whoever.
