Your display has to have good HDR support as well.

Could be this.  The first TV I used it on was, at the time, one of the highest-rated TVs you could buy and NYT/Wirecutter's pick for best TV overall.  HDR video was nice, but the PS4 looked all kinds of washed out.

The second TV I tried was released less than a year ago and HDR looked nicer, but still kind of washed out.  Nothing I couldn't adjust with the picture settings, but it always looked better with HDR off to me.  I do have a preference for more color saturation, although I've seen others comment that PS4 HDR also kind of sucks.

lol, this happened to me the other day. I became a few different objects. one was a big chunk of road. took some screens and kept playing, eventually it booted me to the bug report screen. had a lot of bugs between spidey and demon's now. ps5 software nearly as buggy as an obsidian game rn

In the meantime, try these settings from Hardware Unboxed to get that PC framerate up.

(Image removed from quote.)

Do they have one for Watchdogs Legion? I still can't get that to run & look decent on PC :(

These 2 Ubisoft games are terribly optimized for PC.
They do! Two flavours in fact, 'quality' and 'balanced'.

Thanks, Watchdogs Legion actually runs & looks ok with these settings. Now the game is a lot more playable on PC.

Anyone in here having any kind of weird problems with their systems? Reading a bunch of stuff about weird issues with database rebuilds which has scared me off of playing spiderman. This shit coming in white hot. Dualsense is fucking rad though
Also my dualsense isn't charging from the front USB. Left it charging all night and it was on 1 bar this morning. There's a lot of people with similar issue on era, charging it on a separate USB charger now to confirm it's not the controller but the USB port.
I guess the front usb port isn't powered during rest mode. The back ones are though.

In like 2 days of pretty extreme testing outside VR, the only issues I've had area a 5 second freeze on Demon Soul's right before loading an area past a shortcut and a bad hard crash when a trophy popped up in PS4 BC in Dreams that caused a database rebuild and corrupted and killed the Dreams save file.

Otherwise, been ok /fingers crossed.

I had one game freeze for a few seconds but other than that I've had zero issues. I've had a launch GameCube, Wii, PS4 and never had any big problems. My Genesis and N64 both still work. Hope PS5 is the same.

Actually the shitty ass 360 was the only hardware I've had fail on me.

From what I'm seeing most things are software issues. There's more widespread reports of Xbox Series X disk drives being broken or loud but that should be an easy fix.
With the PS5 it seems that the GPU artifacts are more common, which is no surprise given the aggressive clock speeds it needs to run at and that will probably continue to haunt them for quite some time.

Quite a few threads on reddit reporting such issues
https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/jtswtf/demons_souls_graphical_glitch/
https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/jtlhar/need_help_setting_up_an_rma_for_my_defective_ps5/
https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/jtbunk/ps5_overheating/
https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/jtblcx/ps5_issues_visual_artifacts/

The PS5 GPU runs on very aggressive yet variable clocks:
It tops out at 2.23GHz (or 2230mhz) for demanding titles.

For comparison, my Aorus RTX 2070 Super runs at 1905 mhz (+140mhz compared to the ~1770 mhz base model) and that's the highest out of the box vendor overclock, in fact it was assumed a typo when they announced it.
MSI's Gaming X version for example runs at only 1800mhz (30mhz).
The Radeon 5700XT runs at 1905mhz and a 'stable' yet agressive overclock is considered to be 2005mhz (+100 mhz is usually the norm if you have no guarantee that you have a quality chip that works beyond the advertised clockspeed).

However in some games that 100mhz overclock means up to a 10fps difference so Sony taking a risk with agressive clocks brings PS5 very close to Xbox Series X level (as Digital Foundry has shown) and their cooling solution can easily handle it (PS5 doesn't run that hot).
The Xbox Series X GPU only runs at 1825 mhz so the PS5 GPU runs an impressive 405mhz faster on what is basically the same architecture with cut down CU's (I believe it's 36(PS5) vs 52(XSX)).
However, it will lead to lower yields and more hardware defects as not every chip will be able to hit that number without issue.
Not to mention if issues are introduced on the assembly line like poorly applied thermal paste or a heat sink not properly installed it'll be noticeable sooner.

Which is why shortages of the new 6000-series GPU are also expected for the higher end models, considering AMD has moved to very high clock speeds to 'brute force' their way out of the performance difference with Nvidia.
The 6900XT will run at a boost clock of 2250mhz but that's a $999 GPU. The cheaper 6800 will run at 'only' 2105mhz.

In time their yields will get better but hence the expectation that shortages of high-end 7nm chips (Zen 3, RDNA2, PS5/XSX) will remain for the first half of 2020.
You're just not getting very good yields for a few months with these aggressive clocks but AMD doesn't mind because at 7nm they have a much bigger production volume and they can just build up stock for their 'budget' outings faster.
The Ryzen 5600X for example is easy for them to resupply considering they can use faulty 5800X/5900X//5950X chips. They're probably sitting on a stack of Ryzen 5600's already.

Oh and yesterday I read that Nvidia might adapt to TSMC 7nm processes as well so they're no longer tied to the 8nm Samsung node they're using now (to fix the 3000-series supply issues).
And that would mean all high-end in demand chips(PS5,XSX,ZEN2+,ZEN3,RDNA2/Radeon 6000,RTX3000) are sourced from TSMC's 7nm process.

Well we knew sony shit themselves when ms announced the specs and just overclocked the ps5 to get over 10tf.

The ps5 was never meant for this so I do expect some of them to fry. Maybe not 360 bad but who knows.

Was this the same issue that killed the 360s so fast? I thought the main reason given was that the heat would cause the mounting mechanism for the heatsink to warp, I don't remember anyone mentioning that the silicon itself was frying.

We don't know FOR SURE because MS has never said, but some 3rd party investigations indicate that they used a shitty solder that when exposed to excessive heat for extended periods of time would become brittle and develop tiny, hairline cracks that were essentially irreparable. So probably a combo of using that in a poorly ventilated system that ran hot. ('MERICAN ENGINEERING FTW)

Was playing Astro and was returning to the SSD levels and during the load the game crashed then immediately the os locked up restarted the PS5 and had to wait on a rebuild. JFC!

These software issues are nuts. I’m surprised they didn’t find these issues in testing.

i had a few bugs the first few days but played ~12 hours no issues the other day. testers can never pick up all the things millions of man hours of community play will pick up. that said, this thing does seem quite buggy.

thermals are solid though, i dont think there are issues there, even in high pressure situs only very small parts of the heat sink get to 50 degrees. no doubt there are some hardware issues but there is definitely a weird subset of nerds that make videos overplaying this stuff, like the series x videos with people blowing vape into the bottom and videoing it saying they're on fire.

The X-clamp fix is required because of the lack of the lead in the solder that holds the GPU and the CPU on the motherboard. Overheating causes the BGA (ball grid array) to weaken, resulting in the CPU become detached from the motherboard. Overheating can occur in various storage scenarios best avoided by checking our Xbox 360 care guide.
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/xbox-360-rrod-x-clamp-fix-work/

The tower trick basically melted everything back together lol

Anyway, PS5 shouldn't have problems with its cooling solution it's just that some faulty chips might pass through the cracks and end up on the assembly line and the margin of error is just very small at such high clocks.

also, idk anything abt the new amd cards but the variable clock speed for the 3000 series can hit peaks of nearly 2000mhz with the factory clocks. my colleague apparently pushed his +100mhz and it's fine (assuming this makes peak variance up to 2100) but that's apparently ~the limit because is pushed to the 115% of rec'd voltage.

it would make sense that a gpu with less CUs and everything around it customised precisely to cater to that can run faster timings. there's no way sony just decided on these clocks overnight because ms released their specs lmao

Team Asobi are fucking Grandmasters of next level 3D platforming.  Everyone needs more Astrobot in their lives.  Best pack in since Mario 64 or SMW.

My digi edition is running smoove and had no issues so far with BC, crashing, glitching, rebuilding, etc..  Still haven't tried and VR on it yet though (even though I do have the adapter).

The funny part is that, thanks to Sony's amazing design team, even the disc version has people insert the disc the wrong way, because they have the console with disc drive on the upper side, when horizontal.

 ???  :dunno  :confused

edit: actually is pretty clear how people could misinterpret this. to me the design language was straight forward as i understood how the disc drive is meant to be on the bottom when horizontal and you don't put discs in upside down but yeah, i get it. every other ps the design language is super clear but the ps5 is a bit vague.

im a munter and actually tried inserting a disc backwards just to see what happened. waited a while and the console didn't eject it, just continued trying to read until i ejected it. but when you place the disc ps horizontal  the disc drive is on the bottom or the stand doesn't sit right, and when vertical er, it's also very clear lol.

could see how it might be confusing if you'd never used a disc drive before i guess

Two recurring mistakes i've seen mentioned are:
1) As i said, putting the PS5 horizontal with the disc reader on top (so really, upside down).
2) When vertical, inserting the disc in the wrong direction (with the read-part inwards and the graphic outwards) because of the intuitive assumprion that the lens would be inside the console, where the hardware is, instead of being on the external part.

Also if you pull the USB from the cord to detach them (which you shouldn't do in the first place, but still) when horizontal, some people have had it slip away from the base on to the table/floor.

There are so many things that bug me, like the absurdly complex base, or the USBs being in the middle when vertical, or the power/eject buttons not being contextually placed and almost invisible... i dunno it's one of those things were the more i think about it, the weirder it gets.

To me, it remains the most puzzlingly designed console i've ever seen this side of the NES, but of course yeah, it's relatively minor stuff.

Hopefully they take a good look at what can be done, when the inevitable Pro/Slim comes out.

I'd probably put the first disc in wrong when it's vertical. When holding the disc in your right hand you basically have to hold the disc the wrong way around.

They made fun of Immobile (soccer player) for snapping a photo with it upside down, too.  :lol
https://gamesurf.tiscali.it/notizie/articoli/Immobile-impazzisce-per-la-PS5-ma-la-console-e-al-contrario/

But when you look at it like that, it's actually kind of sensible that the disc tray would be in the most accessible position (on top) and the PS logo is probably not something you see immediately, compared to the disc slot.
It honestly shouldn't even be an issue, for something well designed.

Although in my opinion PS4 was also pretty horrid when it came to the visibility/accessibility of its disc tray, so this one at least doesn't have that problem, once you're good with the orientation.

PS5 impressions:

when putting the system horizontally the base could snap on better, unless there is something I am missing. I finally got it in there, but it kept coming dislodged with slight movements and feels more precarious than it should.

spider man remake looks pretty ridiculous, although city feels maybe overbig? I have never played it before, seems neat. they do throw a good bit of controls at you. playing on 30fps mode with bells and whistles.

astro bot will probably be first thing I beat, it really well done, as expected.

BUGSNAX is kinda lol, who the fuck were they expecting to buy this.  :lol

I want Demons Souls after looking at it more, it looks really good but will try and wait for a sale as have enough at moment.

Tomorrow is Euro launch.

1 of the largest online retailers in the Netherlands will get a grand total of drum roll.... 200 units. They expected 2000,
So they're not doing pre-orders, instead you had to send them a picture of your shoe (Sinterklaas thing like a Christmas sock) and they will pick 200 lucky contestants who can then order a PS5  from the store. Every step of the process the copy is like: "Don't expect to receive one", "Do you really want to bother doing this?"  :lol

They're also going for 1000 - 1500 Euro on eBay and other places already.

I'd rather have a Zen 3 CPU but it seems like a good investment  :success

I feel like flipping a ps5 for pc parts now then rebuying one down the line is the  :brain play even if immoral

yeah, i looked up what they're reselling for here earlier and there are a bunch at 1500 with the bids starting at console cost ($820). i feel like putting it up on an auction site with reserve at retail and letting "the market decide" is fair play. i am also really enjoying the console, but having more money for christmas holidays would be p dope  :-[

I like the people using their dead child to get a console.

Some dutch directness.

My order was done and processed within the first 10 min of pre order here, and I dont have one.

But then I also hear another danish retailer (one of the biggest ones, proshop) apparently have not even gotten any yet.

Sony care even less than Nvidia about us tier 5 countries.

I ordered on launch day from Amazon and haven't gotten mine. It's been "shipped" since Saturday too. But at least now it's moving and tracking says it will be here tomorrow.
