it's largely because of our white european puritan background -- we american whiteys don't celebrate food as other nationalities/races do. we act all shameful about indulging in food, like we're committing some kinda sin by really LOVING a particular type of food. as a result, black people get the credit for loving fried chicken and watermelon, which sucks.
