I definitely agree with Prole about the scourge of Puritanical values, however, that tide is turning as Americans become more sophisticated and adventurous about food.

It's not that I CONDONE throwing the skin away, but if you're going to be health conscious about it, don't eat the skin.

I've been doing that very thing for the past few months, ever since my exercise/diet thread. I'm not going to turn down fried chicken, ever. But I'm not going to eat the skin. It makes me cry every time but I know it's for the best.

That's how far I will go to lose weight, beezy. I need the protein and muscle, so I go with the meat but toss the skin. I will continue to do so until I'm well toned.

If someone offers you fried chicken and you want to build muscle while you diet, are you going to deny that delicious chicken? NO. Fried chicken is still great without the skin and that skin is nothing but FAT. I'm not going to eat it while on a diet, I purely want the meat.

Saturated fat is not necessarily fattening, Himuro. Watch the grains and sugars more importantly. Though foods fried in vegetable oils are not great for arterial health.

I'm kind of surprised nobody's really answered this yet. I had understood, or at least it had made most sense, in that chicken was a cheap meat that was thought to keep good for longer. Working as kitchen cooks, slaves picked up on the spices the transplanted europeans kept in their kitchens. For themselves, they needed cheap meat, which chickens provided. You can also keep more chickens in a small place(such as when blacks were given smaller section of plantations to farm off of) than you can cattle. Chickens were just a more viable livestock in poor conditions.

Watermelon is also by the same idea. You plant the seeds, and while not having huge nutritional value, watermelons are a large yield. A little seed gets you many large melons.

I mentioned it in that thread, but I made an almost identical post here (right down to the complaints about Marlo) after watching the first episode of S4. I can kinda understand where he's coming from, even if the rest of the season changed my mind. And I don't see where he said that he found S3 "meh".

The school stuff was done so perfectly, and fit with the rest of the show so well it was impossible for me not to like it. Reminded me of friends/family members when I was younger. Movies like Once Upon a Time in America and Boyz in Da Hood dealt with youth growing up in crime, and The Wire kind of reminded me of that as well. IMO it started off a lot better than the docks angle in S2, which started slow before gaining lots of momentum.
