Going by Toonami, things I've liked in the past five years:

Parasyte
Space Dandy
One Punch Man
Kill la Kill

Hunter x Hunter only ended in 2014 so I'm going to count that too. :P It's probably in my top five, if not top three of all time...

Kinda slim pickings. A lot of the shows I liked on the block were produced from 2006-2011 (Black Lagoon, Michiko & Hatchin, FMA Brotherhood, Soul Eater.)

Polar Bear's Cafe is within the last five and I loved that. It's kind of slice of whatever so may not be for everybody.

Polar Bear Cafe is about a million episodes, but yeah it's a really great relaxing-on-the-couch-after-a-hard-day anime. And since it's not set at a high school or aimed at otaku, it's actually something that the whole family could watch [although it is subs-only].

Yeah I never finished it cause it doesn't fucking end. :lol Great show all the same. Apparently it was super popular in Nippon to the point where every piece of merch produced for it sold out. Kind of predicted the success of Japari Park this season one could argue, guess Japan loves their animals.

The first episode was nice,  it has a nice, quiet vibe/atmosphere to it.

I don't know if you or Joe have seen it but Eromanga-sensei is pretty decent. Maybe because I haven't seen a show like this in a while(it's a harem show) or because it's by the Oreimo dude(which was nice). However it does have some questionable content.

Watching those OPs reminded me that there was a stretch from about 1998 to 2007 that was just an absolutely incredible time for anime:

1999 - Crest of the Stars, Turn A Gundam, Betterman, GTO, Legend of Black Heaven, Excel Saga, The Big O, Dai-Guard, Reign: The Conquerer, One Peice, Hunter x Hunter, Now and Then Here and There, Blue Gender
2000 - Boogiepop Phantom, Banner of the Stars, Niea_7, Vandread, Sakura Wars, Miami Guns, Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran, Inuyasha
2001 - Earth Maiden Arjuna, Noir, The Soultaker, Super Gals!, Fruits Basket, s.CRY.ed, Hellsing, Kaze no Yojimbo, Angelic Layer, Haré+Guu
2002 - Full Metal Panic!, RahXephon, Azumanga Daioh, .hack//Sign, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Witch Hunter Robin, Saikano, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Haibane Renmei, Gundam Seed, HeatGuy J
2003 - Wolf's Rain, Gunparade March, Kino's Journey, Last Exile, Texhnolyze, Scrapped Princess, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, Narutaru, Full Metal Alchemist, Planetes, Cromartie High School, R.O.D. TV
2004 - Paranoia Agent, Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd Gig, Samurai Champloo, Monster, Gantz, Sgt. Frog, Samurai 7, Genshiken, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
2005 - Peach Girl, Eureka Seven, Speed Grapher, Victorian Romance Emma, Kamichu!, Mushishi, Aria the Animation, Noein, Paradise Kiss, Mahjong Legend Akagi, Honey and Clover

I have some petulant  :expert rage towards sentiments like this. Many of those series are based off manga and LN's that I can't imagine would garner actual foreign interest(Banner of the Stars? Kino's moe as fuck Journey?, Cromartie? you know going through this list, there's alot of quality titles on here. nevermind good job rumbler-dono.

I don't really have a point, I just don't like the "member when anime had more western influences and it was good" which isn't what you're saying but it makes me butthurt either way.

That was also when things were transitioning to HD and like with games I think there was a learning period and less funding for super creative concepts/adaptations.

Marathoned the remained of One Punch Man last night. What an absolutely fantastic series. I'm glad they stuck to the more light-hearted humor and didn't try to make it be too serious like some shows do, even when things started to ramp up to ridiculous levels. Season 2 needs to be out RIGHT NOW.

Saitama being punched all the way to the moon, casually tossing a moon rock into the air, and then jumping back to the Earth to continue the fight may have been my favorite scene in the entire first season. It really drives home just how ridiculously OP he is.

I'm posting a list of the good anime that's been released from 2008 up until 2016, because I feel like it and you can't stop me [and also as a companion to that earlier post I made]:

2008 - Spice and Wolf, Soul Eater, Macross Frontier, Golgo 13, Birdy the Might: Decode, Cashern Sins, Astro Fighter Sunred, Slayers Revolution
2009 - Rideback, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Eden of the East, Kuuchuu Buranko
2010 - Durarara!!, Cobra the Animation, Angel Beats!, Tatami Galaxy, Seitaokai Yakuindomo, Panty & Stocking
2011 - Madoka Magica, Level E, AnoHana, Steins;Gate, Nichijou, Tiger & Bunny, Azazel-san, Mawaru Penguindrum
2012 - Daily Lives of High School Boys, Jormungand, Kids on the Slope, Space Brothers, Polar Bear Cafe, Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Binbougami ga!, Humanity Has Declined, Psycho-Pass, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
2013 - Attack on Titan, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, Flowers of Evil, WateMote, Sunday Without God, Silver Spoon, Gatchaman Crowds, The Eccentric Family, Kill la Kill, Nagi no Asukara, Samurai Flamenco, Kyousou Giga
2014 - Space Dandy, Chaika the Coffin Princess, Knights of Sidonia, Mushishi: The Next Passage, Ping Pong the Animation, Terror in Resonance, Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, Barakamon, Survival Game Club, Parasyte, Rage of Bahamut, Shirobako, Garo
2015 - Death Parade, Maria the Virgin Witch, Food Wars!, Blood Blockade Battlefront, Prison School, One Punch Man, Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Osomatsu-san, Ninja Slayer from Animation
2016 - Konosuba, My Hero Academia, Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto, Tanaka-kun is Always Listless, Flying Witch, Space Patrol Luluco, Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou, Mob Psycho 100, Drifters

2008 through 2011 was pretty dire, a few good shows a year smashed in between a mountain of garbage. From 2012 up to the present has been a lot better, though.

Only bad thing about Spice and Wolf is that the anime [despite getting two seasons] only covered a small portion of the novels, and didn't get anywhere near the series actual end.
