And without resorting to words like "religious institution" or "charity," why should churches not be taxed?  They take in far more money than they put out, thus the charity and non-profit claims don't stick.  Churches remaining tax exempt is just another relic of the past.  Tax them like a business and watch our coffers fill up fast.

I just explained to you the difference between churches and businesses, and apprently it doesn't matter to you. Seperation of church and state works both ways.

It's not about a persecution complex. If you want to deny the double standard that resides on GAF that's your right; I'm certainly not the only person who has brought it to attention. I don't have a persecution complex, and I've never been "persecuted" because of my faith. I've met people who's family members have been raped and killed due to their faith, so an insignifigant message board on the internet does not "threaten" me. As I said earlier, if anything it annoys and disgusts me.

With respect to the video, of course those are wackos. Yet the thread is a case of the phenomena that I notice about some atheists: they aren't much different than the religious people they so despise. I've heard of MANY priests, mullahs, and rabbiis going to jail because they cheated on their "donations".  The only time I'd trust a religious organization on not cheating on what they're paying the leaders is if they release bills of all their expenses, and many do this to raise donations.

Why shouldn't a religious organization release bills for all of their expenses?  I realize that the religious leaders have to be paid but they can be paid a specific income which can be whatever the fuck the church wants as long as it's documented.

Seperation of church and state works both ways, as I've said many times in this thread. The government has as much legal groundwork to tax churches as they have to use tax money to to build a crucifix statue in the House of Representatives
