I haven't played SW3 because Koei are distinguished mentally-challenged fellows who put it on the wii and we're never getting 3Z or 3XL or 3E in English.

However, I imagine SW4 will be crazy as shit given the past few years of Musou: Gundam Musou 3, DW8 (still haven't played :(), and WO3. If it's as fast-paced as those games, we're in for a treat.

However, I HAVE played SW2XL, SW: Chronicles, and vastly prefer Samurai Warriors characters in both Orochi's.

Samurai Warriors characters are very cartoony. Like, you got Tokugawa who has a giant...cannon, you've got Fuma who is a ninja with arms that stretch like Stretch Armstrong. The characters are more memorable and have more unique movesets, the stages are better designed because they're open ended and usually with a lot of goals and things to micromanage while on the battlefield. It's also more challenging, even on normal.

That "characters feel underpowered" and "stages are long" thing very similar to Samurai Warriors.

the funny thing about one piece musou 2 is that you get a musou bar and a rage bar (it's called style bar but whatever... it's the rage bar) so you can use your musou move on the boss, then go into style mode which slows down time and power up all your normal move, then when you get to the end of style mode you can pull off another musou attack, but wait! this musou attack let you tag with another character so he gets to slap the boss for a while too, then he gets to pull his own musou on the boss, then the thing ends and your musou bar get filled to whole again so you get to pull another musou attack on the boss again... then you pick one of those items that fill your style bar to full again and you get to do the whole thing again

your normal attack might not be much strong but it's really easy to rip bosses apart by spamming supers like there is no tomorrow

oh and that reminds me,everytime you want to add someone to the list of possible tag partners you have to prove yourself worthy by doing a short mission where you defeat them, that's another thing that annoy's me a lot

All you need to know about Pirate Warriors 2 is that it's now a traditional-style musou game and is very good, but Dynasty Warriors 8 is the better of the two titles released this year.

DW8 (still haven't played :()

Koei needs to join the bandwagon (my fantasy bandwagon) and start releasing Musou games on Steam.  They've released Musou games on PC before.  Now that the Xbone and PS4 are PCs, hopefully we'll see some ports.

Sick of all these exciting musou announcements being irrelevant to me because they aren't leaving Japan. I hate my life.

DW8 XL - likely staying JP exclusive
SW2 rerelease - staying JP exclusive
Gundam 4 - likely staying JP exclusive
Orochi 3 Ultimate - likely staying JP exclusive
DW8 +XL PS4 - likely staying JP exclusive
SW4 - who knows at this point, i'm sure as hell not counting on it

No, I will not import. I'm through wading through moon language and paying excessive import prices.

I dunno, it would essentially be a PS3 up-port, so who knows if they'd bother (or if Sony would even let them). If Koei was doing a proper PS4 DW game i'd certainly expect it to be released here.

XL has always come over previously, as has Gundam and SW. The remakes and port ups chances of making it over are dubious at best but it's still an exciting time for western based musou fans.

I just started playing my first non-demo Musuo and figured I'd ask some veterans for advice. Right now I'm completing missions very fast and I still get top ranked. Would it be better to kill as many enemies as possible before I try to accomplish the mission goals, provided I have enough time?

Is there anything else I need to know about Bladestorm? I've completed three missions and now I need to decide if I want to spend my ~5000 gold on equipment, consumables, units, or all of the above.

Yeah, in some games you have to race from one end of the map to the other.  In DW8, for example, you can't even do some of the side missions unless you have multiple musou stocks available to use when riding a horse, for a turbo-boost.  Some side missions also require you to ignore what the game is telling you to do to properly complete them.   :dizzy

For the most part, everything is pretty straight forward, which is why I generally have no problems when importing.  Dynasty Warriors is usually the exception.

i'm continuing with my one piece musou 2 playthrough once in a while and this is so much better than dynasty warriors 8 that words can't describe, the characters feel diverse (for example i unlocked mihawk who has an infinite square combo, and crocodile who has the power of draining enemy to increase his rage bar so you can basicaly be in rage mode forever as long as you keep draining enemies) and on the screen there is just utter plain chaos, there was a moment where i used crocodile musou attack twice and somehow ended up scoring 250 kills with those 2 attack alone... it also never feel like there is a moment where i'm just walking toward my next objective

Musou Orochi 2 Ultimate

Changes
Everyone has been tweaked to play slightly different than the original game a la Warriors Orochi 2. Strong characters have been weakened. The maximum level cap is 100 instead of 99. Character growth is influenced by weapon enhancements and character parameters, meaning that even maximum leveled characters can still be altered to a degree.
Each character is given a second personal skill that contributes to the team's overall stats.

Includes new items and weapon attributes.

"Triple Rush", a stronger variation of Switch Combos, launches foes into the air for greater combo freedom. It is easier to cancel attacks using this skill. Unique versions are triggered by performing the attack using a specific set of characters, with more than 50 team combinations available.

Mitsunari Ishida, Kiyomasa Katō, Masanori Fukushima
Yoshihiro Shimazu, Ginchiyo Tachibana, Muneshige Tachibana
Sun Jian, Nene, Sophitia

"Midair Tie Up Action" is a new aerial R1 attack which drains a portion of the Musou gauge to use. The action performed is reliant on the user's type (Power, Speed, Technique, Wonder).

Technique types have a new ability: press X while being attacked to shift behind the opponent.

Two players can activate their teams' Musou to have all six characters attack with a special energy effect. This is called "Shin Musou Burst".
Dynasty Warriors 8's version of horse whistling is present.

Includes new five-star weapons and unique "mystic weapons" for the entire cast which can be acquired by completing specific requirements within Story or Free Mode.
Characters can now carry four to six items instead of two. A separate slot is available for saddles.

The maximum K.O. count is now 10,000 while stock experience is capped at 999,999 as opposed to 99,999.

A Samurai Warriors 3-like color editor is available to customize characters' appearances.

Downloadable content has been noted to appear but not confirmed yet. Save data and DLC from Warriors Orochi 3 can be transferred to Ultimate.
ModesEdit

The modes in the original game and Hyper's Duel Mode return with the following changes.

Story Mode

Four new chapters are added to this entry which highlight two major story arcs:
The Tale of the Latter Day - Takes place after Hydra's defeat.
The Tale of the Former Day - Explains Orochi's origins.

Various new side stories for the playable cast are also included. These stories showcase characters who had few appearances in the main story arc.

Unlimited Mode

A new addition focusing on a five man team. The overall goal is to have these characters survive various trials in order to escape a multi-leveled dungeon; if a character within the players' team perishes, players may choose to wait for their natural resurrection or proceed onwards to the next level without them. All characters in a player's team can fight on the field simultaneously in this mode. Players cannot save until they have completed at least one level and difficulty gradually increases based on their progression. Co-op within this mode has two players control two characters within a single team with the freedom to swap with a single button tap; unused members are controlled by the AI.
Players may select a designated team formation for their party. Effects for this ability are reliant on the party's character and composition, but players generally gain special bonuses or techniques when these formations are activated by at least three characters in their team. Certain techniques may yield different effects when used together. "Dragon spots" are scattered within each map, and they can either restore health, provide buffs, or warp the party to a different part of the map.

Weapons, levels, and experience earned within this mode can be kept for other modes. An option to further strengthen weaponry can be accessed within this mode via rare materials collected from treasure chests throughout the battlefield. These chests may be laden with various traps. Materials can be earned by completing missions given by a female mystic at the main camp.

Shin Musou Battlefields

A renewal of the Musou Battlefields feature. Warriors now cost nothing to change, and in-battle quotes and notifications can be customized by players.

Characters

The entire cast from Hyper and Xu Shu will appear with the following new additions.
Mae Tamamo
Yinglong
A younger Nezha
Kyubi no Kitsune
Hundun
Kasumi from Dead or Alive 5
Sterkenburg Cranach from Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland
Sophitia Alexandra from Soulcalibur IV

I've put a bit over 13 hours into Musou Orochi 2 Ultimate this past weekend.  Used the recommended teams for the first few hours, but once I got Sun Shangxiang unlocked, that extra ground R1 attack was too good to let go of, and she pretty much stayed on my team to bail out the other two characters or to clear out generals in a hurry if needed.  I think she's already at level 70.  Currently using an all Ninja Gaiden/DOA team consisting of Hayabusa, Ayane, and Kasumi.  The extra features are nice- everyone has a new air attack with R1 and you can someone the horse to you and immediately start riding by holding up on the d-pad, similar to DW8.

I double-dipped on the game and have been playing it on both PS3 and Vita.  The Vita version is a great port, but does have some noticeable downgrades.  It seems to be running at a lower framerate (although this keeps things more stable), there's noticeable missing detail and less enemies on-screen, and something just looks weird with water (screens below), but overall there's really not much to complain about it.

Some screens of the Vita version:

Here's the water visuals I was talking about.  Basically when there's no lighting, water is dull and lifeless.  It looks pretty bad.  When there's lighting of any kind, then it looks better and is animated.  I can't tell if this was intentional or is a glitch of some sort.  The two screens from the same area.

And for comparison, here are some screenshots of One Piece Kaizoku Musou 2 on Vita.  It looks cleaner and sharper in comparison and I think is the more-impressive port.

Abe No Seimei, who I notice is missing from the list of new characters on the Koei wikias.  Weird...you get him fairly early on after Xu Shu.

I think he must have been added in Hyper.

Here's the new/added characters to Ultimate, from Koei's site:

Then the second set of new additions are from Special (Rachel) and Hyper:

That video shows the special attacks he has.   :)  The added air R1 stuff gives some characters a lot more of an air game.

 :lol

Also, Kasumi is fucking INSANE.  I got a 300+ hit combo going, with her alone,  like it was nothing the first time I tried her.  That was after leveling her to around 30 with stock points and doing some weapon fusion stuff first though.  Like Ayane, her second outfit type is totally different- it's the ninja armor from NG3/DOA5.

And this is the best-looking musou game on the Vita, but it has waaaaay less going on (much, much smaller stages) and less characters on-screen.

I'll take more enemies over better character models.

In Senran Kagura's case, the visual aesthetic certainly lends to it looking better. One Piece Musou for instance is blah 3d. Would look better if it looked like Gundam Musou 3.

Well, another thing Senran Kagura has going for it is the much higher and smoother framerate.  You get less enemies, but it's still enough for a musou game and more pop in right as one batch is defeated.  But SK is nowhere near as deep or as challenging as the Koei musous can be.  It's more of a flashier, simpler -insanely pervered- musou.   :lol

Yeah, if any game should have been cel-shaded...it's One Piece.  All the anime games, for that matter.

17 hours clocked in and I'm still only on chapter 3 (out of 8 chapters).   :o  More and more side missions keep opening up!

Got Sophitia.  She's a technical character and seems pretty strong.  Moves and combos are taken right from Soul Calibur (the triangle attack is the 'face ride' throw  :lol) and you meet her on the stage from the original Soul Edge.  Both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur can be unlocked as weapons.
