Probably because it comes across like he’s afraid to act “too black,” and he basically took up for PewDiePie when he said the n-word. He puts me in the mind of someone who’s afraid to rock the boat, like he’d rather be viewed as the cool black guy to his white buddies instead of one who will call them out on their problematic behavior. Basically he seems like someone who pretends to be way above it all, but it’s not that, it’s just cowardice.

So yeah, he shouldn’t be an inspiration for young black kids. Because he never really acknowledges anything that could remotely make his predominately white base uncomfortable.

The first part of this post reminds of the way some people view particular minority groups as being defined just as much by their politics as their immutable characteristics. So being Gay for instance, isn't just about having sex with men (although really it is) it is also having the right political views. So being gay as an identity 'group' is about being left-wing and taking a particular stance on various issues. To be gay and right-wing, or to be black and right-wing somehow means you are not really a representative or speak for the gay community or the black community.

The point being, saying someone is afraid to act 'too black' implies that there is a way in which black people should act. And that the way in which black people act should be distinct from how white people act. My first thought actually when it comes to why he thinks he is afraid to act a certain way, is the way that he talks. Because what is it about MKBHD that gives someone the impression he is not acting black enough? Is part of it that he uses correct English? because doesn't that sound really regressive.
