Sure, but multiple years give you the most important thing---trends.
Without the total hours you still don't know why the trends changed. For instance, a rise in video-on-demand percentage could be because the customers really like the quality of the service. But the trend could also have changed because people just got tired of playing video games on their consoles.

Well,here are some 360 hours

Quote
Microsoft has announced that Xbox 360 users amassed a total of 18 billion hours on their systems over 2012, an increase of 10 percent over 2011.

The company’s data shows that an average user spent over 87 hours a month on their Xbox 360, another 10 percent increase over 2011.

Sounds like a disaster all around.  When the #1 game of the month will not get a sequel due to underperformance, that's when you know there's serious problems.

Also LOL at the Wii U.  Iwata should just step down now, not that that is going to do Nintendo any good.  Gallons of Nintard tears are being shed for sure though.

When I was a kid when I'd get a 5 year old video game as a gift I'd still be jumping up and down and happily playing. With today's media coverage of every single sneeze and fart a game makes I sometimes feel I 'know' it before even playing and when this is stacked with any other negative thing about a game I tend to pass.

It's not only additional length. After chapter 4, you only have 3 chapters which are basically boss fights.

DMC4 had at least 10 chapters, not counting Dante's filler chapters. NG2 is about the same with 2 or 3 filler ones.

MGR to me had huge potential but was rushed thanks to Kojima fucking with it for far too long.

ehn, i don't think additional length would have helped it much.  but oh well, this was probably pretty cheap from the point platinum was brought in to completion, and with the strong japanese numbers, i'm sure konami made some money on it.  i hope it was successful enough from their pov to work with platinum again.  with the wii u in freefall, i'm very worried about platinum's future now.

Oh wow, I didn't think of the Wii U's implications on P*'s prospects until this post. :-\

Well Platinum basicly makes games in a pretty niche genre outside of God of War. The hack and slash action adventure isn't really big in the US and Europe.

Maybe some games did ok in the past but I have never bought anything like God of War since I played DMC on the PS2. I don't know what people are expecting them to sell. Grasshopper is also in this pickle.

Vanquish is an exception but it was so Japanese/floaty in its controls... I couldn't get over that and I like 3rd person shooters a lot.

Some SS related numbers

- Soul Sacrifice bundle: 17k.
- Sell-through for all versions: 76% (~150k shipped)

Speaking of Vita, not sure how long will this thing last in US,February data shows sub 10k per week.I think that Gamestop alone has like 4.4k stores in US,so even if we wrongly assume 100% Gamestop market coverage that puts about 2 Vitas per store weekly. That is simply awful.

I wonder how Bayonetta 2 will do on the Wii U. Especially in NA.

The consoles is practivally on life support, and Bayonetta is a Platinum Game aka not really a commercial game.

Something tells me that NIntendo wasted money with this deal, and PG is wasting time with it.

Which games from this genre have come out this 8 year long gen that had some impact on the market? None.

God of War and Dantes Inferno are prob the only ones that sold well, but you have the data. But not well enough to get a Dantes Inferno 2, and you know EA would be down for that shit.

If we look at the NPD's from the last 6/8 years how many 3rd person melee action games are there?

Platinum :(

I thought Japan loved action games. Is the problem that they're not on handhelds?

It sold just fine in Japan.
So what's all this Platinum doom talk in here about?

Oscar I did 6 months of NPD in 2012, 0 games in this niche genre. So youre wrong. Im right.  So dont get butthurt if you are wrong.

Im not going to do more "research" cause its clear that if out of 60 games that charted 0 of them are even in genre the genre aint much.
