I imagine Flip Saunders showing these numbers to Nick Young, using bar graphs and shot charts to visualize it, patiently going through the concepts and how Young could apply them to his own game.

I imagine Nick Young nodding, agreeing, poring over the data rapt in attention, before he plays the game that night and takes 20 midrange jumpers.

The way they've played is just catching up to them. They've never played good team basketball. Everybody including the other superstars just sit around while the one superstar who currently has the ball goes 1 on 5.

And they are in the tough part of their schedule. No more feasting on sub 500 teams to pad out that record. They need a new coach who plans to implement an actual offensive system. I'm like a broken record on this but its what I see every time I watch them play. It shouldn't take a genius to figure this stuff out.

Spoelstra is getting kind of ridiculous on the Riley motivational speeches. He doesn't have the experience or the charisma to be playing those kind of mind games. Crying in the locker room? :lol He could very well have lost the team and his job with that.

Let's just see ONE little adjustment to how they actually play on the floor first. In the past week, I've seen any number of great suggestions for things that would probably make the Heat immediately better on offense and make everyone happier:
  • work in some lobs on cuts from Wade to LeBron - this is just a devastating weapon for Portland and Boston, yet you only see the Heat throw lobs in transition (from J.A. Adande)
  • get Bosh some touches in the low post (Bosh is agitating for this now, oh boy)
  • get Bibby involved in pick and rolls - if he's out there at all, he needs to be looking to shoot 'cause he's a total liability on defense. Yet all he does is spot up for corner threes.

The thing is, it's hard to imagine that haven't been working on this stuff in practice all year. So either Spoelstra is a moron and hasn't been doing this or they have but not enough which I think is the more likely case.

Part of the reason I think Spolestra has to go is you need a coach on that team of such stature and magnitude that Lebron and Wade buy into it. Somebody who's track record is such that when they say do x,y or, z, his record of success means those guys commit. Sort of the Phil Jackson thing.

I think its probably pretty easy for players who are so talented like Lebron and Wade to just revert back to what they know and not trust anybody and go one on 5. The coach and those two have to be on the same page of saying its a team thing. And actually running an offense.

Yes, but who are those coaches? If Coach K from Duke finally gave in and took an NBA job, this would be the one, I suppose. It worked out pretty well at the Olympics. Jackson and Doc Rivers are on the verge of retirement / temporary break from the NBA respectively (Doc wants to go coach his kids). Popovich is locked up for another few years at least, and will probably be in the Spurs organization for life. Larry Brown's record has been seriously tarnished by his last few stops, as has Nellie's. George Karl is locked up. Jerry Sloan? :lol

bumping for more Heat humiliation today. I've watched the last few Lakers games (which is hard for me) and I have to say, they are back on form. The interior defense is brutal and I expect Miami will get very little in the paint tonight, even if Bosh's complaining pays off and he gets more low post touches.

absolutely. They desperately need more variety in their offense. Their assist ratio is also miserable. Even if Bosh just passes out of the post like Boozer once in a while, it'll help.

Hollinger on Kobe's postgame practice session:

Quote
And after the game, it was still about him, with his grandiose hey-look-at-me-working-out show succeeding brilliantly in sucking all the attention from his fit of self-indulgence at the end of the game. (News flash: American Airlines Arena has a practice court. I've been on it. It's nice and big and everything. But it's tough to herd all the media up there to fawn over your postgame workout.) If I were Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum, I would have made an equally big show of going out to the court and standing helplessly in the paint calling for the ball while Bryant practiced his shots, just to add an extra element of realism.

Awwww snap.

No crying in the locker room for the Black Mamba. Just gets a big press crew together and heads out to the court at midnight to remind the world that it was all someone else's fault that he took and missed all the big shots again.

I'm not sure why it takes you this long into a career and into a season to decide that going inside and trying to score when you're 6-11 is a good idea but Bosh finally coming to this conclusion is only a good thing for the heat. They kicked the crap out of the spurs last night and have been playing better since Bosh seems to be going inside more.

Eh, if Bosh regularly makes long 2's off the catch, that's great for the Heat since their best two players are slashers and could use the spacing, plus he'd be pulling away a potential shot blocker in the other team's 4.

But I'll admit I've never watched that much of him in action so I don't know if he's suited for catch-and-shoot or if he's a Caron Butler type who's more comfortable taking a few seconds setting himself up in an iso situation.

Not like a three game win streak needs a ton of analysis anyways.  Same for a five game losing streak, at that.

Maybe it's because playing inside is a lot more physically demanding?  Even though I'm only 5'10, my friends always make me play inside because of my strength and hops.  Posting up drains my energy really fast because I have to use power to create space every time and once I score a couple, secondary defenders are always slapping at my hands.  Or maybe it's just me because I'm out of shape.  LOL

Also, I know Stoney defended the trade here for the most part, but he was so level-headed like he always is. I mean other people. And really, it's not like I'm watching the Knicks much more than I did before (barely). I was beginning to watch again before the trade.

I was watching the Heat's post-game conference and Bosh was seriously close to tears.  It's not his fault though.  All the other bigs on the Heat have been consistent in providing less than 5 pts + 5 rbs per game, combined.  It's a miracle that the Heat have won this many games.  I don't even think Haslem would make enough of a difference next year.  Is there any Ibaka-like player on the market this summer?

I think Danny Ainge may have lost the team with the Perkins trade. Plus, they are missing Shaq, J O'Neal, Marquis Daniels, Troy Murphy, Rondo is in and out, so is Delonte West and Big Baby...I don't know if they have time to get used to the new line-up(s) before the playoffs start. It's tough - whoever gets the #1 seed in the East is gonna be playing a 30-35 win team. Whoever gets the 3rd could be playing Melo and Amare or the surprising Sixers. Tough time to fade.
