NHL does a draft for their all star game, with each team getting a captain who picks.

Norris Cole making it over Klay Thompson is stupid.

Only good part of the draft:

I went back and watched the first Linsanity Game on LP tonight for kicks. Really kind of crazy in hindsight. It really did blindside everyone. He didn't really dominate until the 4th but his impact was immediate and broad. The first time Deron Williams isolated against Lin, the announcer started to say 'Jeremy Lin doesn't stand a chance against Williams here...' before Lin cut off D-Will's drive totally and forced him into a jumper with a hand in his face :lol The announcer took it straight back. By the 4th, the 'Jeremy' chants had started and he basically owned MSG like I haven't seen from a Knick since...Spreewell?

Also, I was kinda surprised that Melo was playing (although he sucked). All this talk of oh noes how will this great passing PG manage to co-exist with this great multidimensional scorer seemed founded on the fact that they had never played together...maybe everyone just forgot.

Also, Tyson Chandler. Still awesome. The more the Knicks fast-break, the more effective he will be too.

The Knicks sked is going to get a lot tougher - be prepared for a wicked Melo backlash when they start losing games again. Hollinger points out that they've been winning 'cause of improved defense, which will take a hit when Melo comes back (unless he finally starts trying, of course - there's no reason he should be that bad. But if he didn't motivated in the playoffs, he's not going to try against the Hornets in February)

If Amare coming back didn't fuck up their defense, then I doubt Melo's return will.

Lin 5 first quarter turnovers. He's really got to get that under control. That's simply something people like Nash and CP3 don't do. He gets out of control lots of times trying to create.

It's not that Melo is worse at D than Amare but that it's easier to cover for 1 or 2 defensive liabilities than it will be to cover for 3 (Lin included in that.)

Nothing cures a losing streak like the Toronto Raptors.

edit:
On a related note, how has Rasual Butler had such a long career.* In his ten-year career, he hasn't had a single season in which his PER was at 15 (league average) or above. It's 10.4 overall and around 5 for this season.

*In before defense and three-point shooting.

The cream is starting to rise to the top.

Miami is looking scary good at the moment. Lebron is having another crazy MVP season. Shooting 54%.

And if we cut off the first 5 games of the season Dallas is a fairly solid 19-7.

Dallas has looked pretty good recently, especially with a revolving door of injured players. One of the strongest defenses in the West, too.

Spurs are better too, not that anyone cares or notices.

I assume Dallas will be very tough by playoff time. Dirk is improving but man, that 5-6 month long party clearly took a lot out of him

Dirk is improving but man, that 5-6 month long party clearly took a lot out of him

He did play in the Euros* on a team with Chris Kaman and a bunch of other Germans too tall to play soccer. That should  turn someone off basketball more than playing with Josh Howard.

*I thought he didn't play well, but I guess it's all relative: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirk_Nowitzki#International_career His performance from the 2001 Euros to the 2008 Olympic qualifiers was pretty sick (note: 40-minute games). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirk_Nowitzki#International_statistics

Not as sick as his career playoff numbers though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirk_Nowitzki#Playoffs

28 points
14 assists
5 steals

And I'm going to shut up about the turnovers. I mean yeah its a problem and he needs to work on it in the offseason   with some of his decision making but being brand new. Playing the large number of minutes he does. And the pressure he creates. He brings far more to the table than he takes away with it on the turnovers.

I watched the Miami game, first game I've watched in some time. Jesus christ is JVG always that much of a douche? I remember liking his commentary in the past but his rants were unbearable. I get that he's an oldschool fundamentals guy, but come on. First he complained about people not playing due to minor injuries, allegedly not taking seasons seriously. Then he jumped on the idiotic LeBron/Cavs comments media bs train. jesus

It would be a crime if Durant didn't win the MVP this year.

Amazingly he may not win it with the year Lebron is having although Durant is having a monster season himself. He's shooting 50%. Easily his career high and pretty great for a guy who takes as many outside shots as he does. Also career high in rebounds and assists for him.

Tony Parker is quietly having a great season too. 19 points a game. Career high in assists. FG% is a little down for him but heck he's a 6'2" point guard and he's had to carry the load as Ginobili has missed most of the season and the spurs still have a great record.

Totally agree. His usage rate is over EIGHTY PERCENT and he's on his 8th start. Yeah, there are going to be turnovers galore. If it was Tyson Chandler turning it over 7 times, it would be cause for complaint.

LeBron is better than Durant this year, no question. Durant's all-around game is amazing though.

Its gotten better as the season has gone on. It started really sloppy. I mean look at the mavs and certain other teams that you knew should be playoff teams but got off to really shitty starts. I think teams are also being smart. Like how Miami rested Wade. The Mavs rested Dirk. There is going to be more of that in the second half. Plus I think you just have some individual players having monster seasons.

The other thing that has happened is that the Knicks have become the Heat of last year for me at least on an interest level. A team I must watch. I barely bothered watching the knicks this year because they were fucking awful and now I can't miss a freaking game because its so exciting. Every night I'm watching them now.

Hell I can't wait for tomorrow night and Carmelo coming back. That team has JR Smith, Carmelo Anthony, and the soon to be added Baron Davis. Three of the biggest ball hogs of all time. And they are going to sometimes be on the floor all at the same time! How could you not want to watch that.  :)
