NBA fans with more knowledge than me (ie everyone here except brandknew): I know it's early and FA hasn't really heated up, but what teams do you expect to challenge the Heat next year. I'm assuming the Heat will reload with some newer vets/3 point shooters; Mike Miller seems like he might retire.

The Spurs seem like they blew their last shot. Russel "#1 on my team" Bestbrook will be back next season/playoffs, and I'm sure other teams will make moves while Duncan/Manu/Parker try to recover. In the east Rose will be back, I'm assuming Chicago will be good. Indiana should be good.

The same teams that challenged them this year. Bulls and Pacers in the East. Spurs, Thunder, Grizzlies in the West. Although it depends on what Chris Paul and Dwight Howard do with Houston and the Clippers.

I also doubt Mike Miller would retire. That would be passing on 12 millions dollars over the next 2 years.

List of the free agents.

Won't happen but I would love the Heat to pick up Blatche.

Decent article that talks about the relative age of the Heat.

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/60145/the-miami-heats-age-old-problem

I'm not sure what to think of Wade. On one hand he is declining. On the other hand I have a feeling Spoelstra will be a lot smarter about managing the Heat minutes next season and treat the regular reason like an extended preseason.

Next year is the player option for all of those guys anyway so Lebron is a free agent at the end of the season.

Fuck this guy.

I'm past the point of expecting the world to be just, but the fact that such physical ability and freedom from injuries are wasted on a douchebag of this magnitude goes beyond your mere everyday injustice.

This is what the psalmist was talking about:

Quote
How long, Lord, will the wicked,
    how long will the wicked be jubilant?
They pour out arrogant words;
    all the evildoers are full of boasting.
They crush your people, Lord;
    they oppress your inheritance.
They slay the widow and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.
They say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob takes no notice.”

 ::)

Also PD why u hatin

I'd say Pacers are their biggest threat in the East again...a healthy Thunder team and quite possibly a theoretically loaded Rockets team in the West.

That's true, but you can't really introduce "what-ifs" with NBA finals stuff – I could also make the argument that if Jordan's dad wasn't murdered, they'd have one four, or five, or fuck, 8 titles in a row.

Random note.

Ric Bucher is worse than cancer.  :yuck

At least Skip Bayless is just an act. I get the sense he doesn't believe or care about anything that comes out of his mouth. It's all just showbusiness to him. Bucher doesn't really have a Bayless type platform or reason to be such a hater but he does it anyway.

Bill Davidson is dead, he no longer has Joe Dumars to kick around and force to draft white players!

Seriously, I know about 5 people (including my dad) who believe Davidson forced Dumars to draft Darko because he wanted a white star on the team.

For once, I have little idea who the Kings will draft. It may be Burke if he's there, but there's rumors they are looking to trade Jimmer for a late first round pick.

Speaking of the Kings, as I always do, I have bizarro news:

http://aroyalpain.com/2013/06/25/shaq-says-hes-going-to-make-demarcus-cousins-the-best-big-in-the-nba/

Shaq to work with the Kings in unofficial manner. I am not sure if he'll be able to connect with Cousins, but Renadive seems to love connecting with the TNT crew.

I think the Kings are looking at Burke, McCollum or Oladipo. I imagine Oladipo is their first choice, but he may be gone by then. After the draft, they'll have to shed some excess guards. DXPress has them taking Anthony Bennet right now but that doesn't make any sense to me.

This is a fucking farce. Trey Burke was right there for the Pistons to take. There was also the high risk/high reward Shabazz Mohammed if you wanted to gamble. Why...

I get it. Going for the local guy doesn't always pan out (see: Mateen Cleeves) but this team can barely give tickets away. Burke is a good player, would bring some interest to the team...sigh. He's under sized yes, and pairing him with Brandon Knight would make for quite a small back court. So why not draft Burke and shop Knight?

Fire Dumars. Pope isn't bad obviously and he has size but come on.

Not really a fan of the Mclemore pick for the Kings. I think he can be a good shooting guard in the league and I feel coach Malone will make him a good defender, but he doesn't fit the roster. WTF are they going to do with all these shooting guards? Cousins needs someone to get him the ball.

Quote
Kevin Garnett has agreed to waive his no-trade clause, clinching an agreement on a trade that will land Paul Pierce, Garnett and Jason Terry with the Brooklyn Nets, sources close to the process told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard on Thursday night.

Garnett waiving the no-trade clause was the last step to sealing the deal, sources said.

No trade between the teams can officially be consummated until July 10 -- when a league-wide moratorium on signings and trades is lifted after free agency begins July 1 -- but the teams made fast progress on finalizing the trade parameters.

Brooklyn has agreed to send three first-round picks (2014, '16 and '18) along with Kris Humphries' expiring contract, Gerald Wallace, Tornike Shengelia, Reggie Evans and a sign-and-traded Keith Bogans to the Celtics for Pierce, Garnett and Terry. By agreeing to add Terry to the trade, sources said, Brooklyn alleviated some of Boston's concerns about absorbing the remaining three years, $30 million on Wallace's contract.

Because Pierce is making nearly $17 million this season, Brooklyn needs the deal to wait until after the start of free agency and the lifting of the moratorium on July 10, since the $15.3 million team option the Celtics had on their longtime captain is used in the trade.

Yahoo! Sports reported the Nets' pursuit of Garnett and Pierce as a package. The New York Daily News reported earlier this week that the Nets were chasing Garnett. Sources told ESPN.com the Nets hatched the idea of trying to acquire both Boston stalwarts in the same deal because Pierce's inclusion was seen as the surest way to persuade Garnett to waive his no-trade clause.

The addition of Garnett and Pierce to the trio of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez would appear to give the Nets one of the most formidable rosters in the NBA under rookie coach Jason Kidd.

Earlier this offseason, Boston denied the Nets permission to contact then-head coach Doc Rivers, who eventually left to coach the Los Angeles Clippers.

But the Celtics, now that Rivers has departed, are a team in transition that is said to be looking to accelerate the rebuilding process by chasing draft picks and creating cap space.

Explain this to a white dude.

You're black. Let's say you grow up in a bad situation. Your community fights to stop cuts towards government programs. Your area depends on government programs.

Then you grow up and become a basketball player. You make big money in the NBA.

How does a state with high taxes for state programs become a bad thing? Why do places with no taxes to cut into your big NBA money become a good thing?

Because in America when you are rich no matter what your color, you are supposed to instantly stop giving a fuck about anybody else and only worry about how to skin-flint as much as possible.

On a serious note I hear that idea tossed around that free-agents prefer locations with low taxes or no state income taxes but has there ever been any data or studies to corroborate based on actual signings.

Simmons didn't shy away. The constant awkward pauses after Simmons spoke freely tonight was enjoyable for me on some level.

And Simmons won't draw ire for what he said, but for causing those reactions. The others will be upset for showing them up by saying over the air what they jabber about during commercial, and the network will be upset because the awkward pause drew attention to the fact these analysts are unable to discuss what goes on in the league.

I am starting to warm to the Ray McCollum pick. If he can play PG in the league then he could fit in well with the team. It's hard to tell how much of a distributor he can be when he was playing without anyone else at his level. He can shoot a little, handles the ball well, and has a bit of athleticism.
