Title: Craigslist ad posted
Post by: Phoenix Dark on September 27, 2006, 06:37:51 PM
http://annarbor.craigslist.org/roo/213120855.html

Craiglist has such a cluttered process for posting stuff. Geez. But I'm sure we'll get more hits now.

And please don't call that number- it's not mine.

Not really.  I've already got a portfolio and a lot of experience underneath my belt.  It's not like graphic design is a dead end job, stupid.

Also you're a virgin lol.

Graphics design with no degree? Good luck with that!

I'll get out of college ready for a high paying, professional job. You'll be scrambling around wishing you went to school.

I'm a virgin, but I'll be able to take care of my woman when I get one :punch

I love you Willco :-*

Huh, I already have a graphics design job without a degree.  You lose.

I have three acquaintances that now work in the film industry doing graphic design or set design work with Photoshop, all of them make a ton of cash.  Only one of them has a degree and it's not even in communications or design.  Piece of paper is worth crap if ain't got the portfolio, son.

I'll show you my private crap from school later on, but I'd rather not show off my business work.  Two reasons - I haven't gotten approval to use it, yet.  A lot of it sucks because my bosses are crazy, micromanaging jerks that have no sense of design.  The stuff from work that I am going to add to my porfolio will showcase my technical skills and my ability to deliver what the client wants (by showing a client scribble and my end result), because quite frankly I think some of their personal design choices are ghastly.

Sitting at a desk designing ads, catalogs, brouchures, promotional material and online content is fruity?  ::)

Actually, I honestly lucked into this job - without it, I probably would lack the experience to effectively compete for a job in this career field.  I was applying to the company for a part-time gig to just help pay rent while I found a better job, and brought my portfolio from school to make it look like I had important stuff to carry.  At any rate, the CEO was interested in what it was, looked at it and offered me a job as their graphic design specialist.  He lated said he hired me because we had the same shoe size.

Right now, I'm miserable.  I am underpaid for above-the-call-of-duty effort I'm putting into the place, and the micromanagement is infuriating.  But it's across the board, not just at my position.  I'll be looking into work elsewhere very shortly.

Hey, I didn't create the theme and - screw ye! - cloudwalking and I like it.  The only thing I've done is the image in the top left hand corner.  Everything else, I really can't take credit for.  Although, I think it's a rocking theme.

Actually my mom has a masters in mathmatics and my dad has a BA in business or something and only my dad (if he even does) used their respective degrees PD, and we are very well off.

My dad does something with computers and buiness and my mom is actually an executive assistant, so I guess degrees are only for bragging rights sometimes, but someone can be very well off without one.

Why is Phoenix Dark given any credibility on this forum? The "man" is a known liar, and incredibly stupid to boot.

At most he'll be able to ascend to some cafeteria position where he spends his day waxing philosophical about what its like to touch a real booby. Chastising himself for masturbating too often to answer the door when a female Jehovah's Witness shows, the poor woman an unwilling victim to a horrible under-achieving male's fantasy.

I will say this for the record as an outside objective observer: Phoenix Dark is one of the most fucking stupid people I have ever talked to. No amount of book learning will save his future employers from the horrible fate that awaits them. Imagine, to know PD in person and witnessing as his mouth opens and pure concentrated idiocy is unfurled like a direct connection to the dark abyss.

I HAVE a Digital Design degree, it means SHIT. You know what these students go on to do? Color work and ADs. You end up some monkey for a large company doing bullshit work. The most successful Graphic Design people I have met have let their WORK and portfolio speak for them.

Any school offering a Digital Design course is BREEDING YOU for ADVERTISING COMPANIES. Face the goddamned facts, when it comes to digital design, creds dont mean shit, your portfolio does.

MAF's 100% right -- my brother is one of the most successful graphic designers in Seattle, with a show in New York this week, and he'll tell ANYONE that your portfolio is ALL that matters. Since no two portfolios are equal, there will never be a situation where credentials will matter. Either you have the talent and the discipline, or you don't.

My Brother has 2 years of college and works for a bank doing god knows what and makes at least 45,000 a year.  Not too shabby.

Very nice, especially if he's single.

Perhaps I'm so high on the importance of college because it's been drilled into me by my parents. My dad is a dentist, and he has his own practice; I'm constantly told I have to be more successful than him, which is a high task considering he makes more than $100,000 a year. At the end of the day I'm my own person, so I'm not interested in making more money than him. A single person making $45,000 a year would be in almost as good of a position as someone making $100,000 and supporting a 6 member family.

I have high expectations when it comes to standards of living, and I recognize education is the best way to get what I want. I know I want to go into business, but I don't know which field of business to pursue; once I get into the college's school of business I'll have a better idea. Business will really help me keep my options open. I'll be able to stay in business and make a lot of money, or possibly go to law school (as I've thought about); business is a great avenue to take in search of a career in law, or politics.

Right.  Just don't stress your self out over it.

Currently my major is Biology, but I can't stand it and I want to switch like everyday, but I'm just chugging along to make my dad happy.  Fuck that though I think next year I'll offically switch to business.

I just want a comfortable suit and tie job that I go to work and make some good money doing.

Biology? If you don't plan on going to grad school, there's no point in majoring in that imo. And trust me, grad school biology/science is not fun.

Business seems like a great pick for anyone who doesn't know what they want to do. It prepares you for anything, while guarenteeing you a job.

You don't realize how influencial college professors can be? Especially in fields like business, or medicine fields. I know so many teachers and heads of departments it's not funny. I hate playing the "politics" game with them, but it's something you have to do everynow and then. They remember that kind of stuff, and it helps you in the future.

I'm not saying it can't help; I'm saying you don't need it, and Willco in particular doesn't need it if he has connections obtained elsewhere as well as a decent portfolio. I personally hire based on education last and initiative, intellectual horsepower, and social skills FIRST. The only bad hire I ever made was trusting a resume instead of my personal assessment.

You work in the graphic design area correct? That's very different than what I'm talking about; as you said, experience and skill are very important in that field. The business world is all about connections in so many ways. Internships and such are important.

I attended Limerick University.Where i studied Marketing and now work here in Dublin, as a marketer for a small grown up firm.,here in Dublin I work a lot, though I spend a lot of time at the sports like gym, golfing, playing poker - the fun stuffs. I'm an avid fan of Football and I also enjoy watching basketball. I'm sure we'll have plenty in common, don't we?.I will take my time to get you one of my pics in two days time for you to know how I look like, I am sure you will like me.I am a very dedicated individual who is totally committed to human development, friendly, very trustworthy and value relationship above anything. I love travelling, sporting and enjoy meeting people around the world. I am an easy going person and like to have an apartment/roommate who is very responsible and understanding, someone I can really get along with.
However,I will be coming over to the state to advertise and market some of our new products by next month, and the program is starting from your area. and I will also be staying for at least 9months... Probably i will be moving in the room the same day or next day.
The products are comestics, like soap, toothpaste, and some beverages....e.t.c
The name of the company that is sponsoring and owns this is Doudeas Cosmesbev Company. Located in Dublin Ireland.
Fortunately, I saw your advert and I am sincerely interested in the room as advertised and I will like to move in a soon as possible. Please I will like to know the total cost for my initial move to the room including the utilities, but I will like to bring this to your notification that I will be coming along with my items like shoe rank, shelves for my books and my car.
I need this info as soon as possible so as to arrange for you to get the money prior for my arrival. As I will like to make an advance payment ahead my arrival so that you can be rest assured that this is real since I am not in the state presently.
Thanks and have a good time.
Warmest Regards,
Helen Williams W.

Everything sounds fake to me. How is it that all these people from Europe are dying to move across the world...to fucking Michigan? None of them are students either. Maybe they plan on working at U of M, I don't know.

Here's my responce to her:

Hi,

How are you doing? I just received your email. With regards to the price, the rent is $400 a month. All utilities are included, as the ad says. This includes free internet and cable.

In your email you mentioned that your company plans on starting a program in my area; which specific area is that, if I may ask?

You sound like an interesting person, and if you have any more questions just contact me. Also I'm going to try to purchase a camera so I can take pictures of the house and post them in the ad.

Fuck, that's what I'm thinking :lol

Sounds way to fake. Not to mention all of them sound the same basically, or use the same font.

Back on topic: looks like I might have to get a camera to take pics of the house. If I can convince my parents to buy it, I'll be able to show you guys how the house looks too.

I didn't want to out him, but Drinky is a Nintendo employee and a paid member of the marketing staff, practcing a brand new reverse psychology viral marketing technique.  He attacks their products to generate defensive fanboy reactions, which with enough zeal, generate a buzz that spills over to mainstream consumers.
