I worked over 21 hours in the past two days, in addition to a midnight showing of Ghostbusters, so I think I just ran my body down to the point of zero immunity and caught some random cold. I can't breathe and my throat is on the brink too. :-\
-
Do you still work at gamestop?
-
Yeah, I just got promoted and took over a store. Last week was my first week of sole ownership (there was a transition period where I worked with the manager who was leaving). And I got the place to skyrocket to first in the district and sixth in the entire San Fran/Oakland/San Jose region. But it was a lot of work and on Friday, we were audited by the District Manager - so it's been one of those weeks.
-
You own it?
-
FOC, don't ask stupid questions.
-
Hey Willco how much does the upper-management badger you about selling x amount of copies of games? And can you decide how the store is laid out?
-
GameStop as a company has moved away from that; I'm sure some DMs pressure their subordinates to meet certain sales expectations, but mine does not. He wants us to succeed, but his primary focus is on executing key operational matters, customer service and employee retention right now. If he feels you're not meeting opportunities that you can certainly meet, like reserves, he will actually come up with an individualized plan for that particular store. I know not every region is so lucky to have such a DM, but it was a large part of why I took on this burden.
You can decide layout of the store somewhat, like where things are located and how much room you want to give to each platform, but marketing is standard for any store.

I feel ya, man. I got sick last week but couldn't miss work because it woulda thrown the schedule outta whack, ended up losing my voice and not being able to speak at all for about four or five days. Even now, my throat is sore and my voice sounds really raspy.
-
I'm gonna apply at Gamestop. 8)
will you give me a co-sign Willco?
-
Don't do it, man. GameStop has been the worst work experience I have ever had.
-
I work 24 hours every weekend. And during the nights! 30 if you count the eight I'm working right now Monday morning(midnight-8).
-
hey willco do you have to show this vid to all new employees

So basically you're using other citizens' taxes to pay for your video game habit. You're a drain on the economy. Is using state money for this kind of thing even legal?

How much money? Jesus, I'm pretty sure that's illegal. You're spending taxpayer money on PSP games, high-end PCs, XBox 360 and Wii stuff....holy crap, that's not fair. It's not the government's fault your mom was a junkie and you were born with a disability. At most, that money should cover your food, rent, electricity and water bills.

Yeah, I'm reporting you to the government.
you're just upset because you don't get free money.

No, I'm upset because you're stealing taxpayer cash.

A thief is a thief. After that has been defined, we're just talking about quantity.

Oh STFU. If it were wrong to do, then why didn't they tell me what I could only spend it on when I signed up for SSI? I've had this for 4 years and they've never called me or anything.

I know GameStop has been a mediocre work environment in years past, but GameStop has instituted a new HR program, in addition to staffing a whole new HR department, specifically for employee retention and eliminating employee concerns and abuse. They've also decided to take care of their managers, in regards to OT pay and stock options and bonuses.

Just let me walk into a GS without hearing "Do you have anything to trade" or "Wanna pre-order x game" a million times and I'll start going back.
-
That's just a mediocre manager. For every store who badgers customers for trades and reserves, I can show another store that does it right (customer service-oriented).

I talked to the manager and he told me that he could lose his job if he doesn't push it.
-
That's a lie then. The new HR program they instituted makes it near impossible for manager to lose his job due to performance reasons. I'm not even kidding.

I hope they pay the employees overtime to clean the store because a lot of GameStops REEK...it's like they never bother vacuuming or cleaning the store up at all.
Back when I worked at a GameStop the manager would keep us after work to clean up the store, but we didn't get any OT. I didn't say anything 'cuz my cousin was the asst. manager there and I didn't want to "make waves", but that seemed so wrong to me. :/
-
gamestops around here don't have any problems. I've been asked a few times if I want to pre-order something but they seem to stop asking you that if you're a REGULAR customer. I don't get it.
hope you get better willco.

As far as I know, when you get disability and stuff from the government, they don't have any riles as to what you can spend your money on.
Hell, my grandfather gets social security and disability, and he has a 2+ pack a day cigarette habit. We don't have cable, they can't pay their bills, and they have two mortgages on the house we live in. And because their income is limited they get all kinds of other government help with heating assistance and stuff a lot of times. We just got a new roof and all kinds of improvements to bring the house up to code a year or two ago, and it was all free. And I think it's kind of pathetic that the government pays for all that when they could afford it IF they weren't being idiots abuot their money.
I'm not saying it's FAIR, but I don't think there's legally anything wrong with people mooching off the government in such a way. Unfortunately. :'(
Also, I hope you get better, Willco.

It makes me angry to think tax dollars are funding flip-flop's PSP. :maf

You should get a job at a call center or something. You can operate a keyboard with your feet and people over the phone can't see your horrible deformity. It'll help build up your self-confidence.

You can decide layout of the store somewhat, like where things are located and how much room you want to give to each platform, but marketing is standard for any store.
NOT IN KENTUCKY.
Your district or even region might have moved away from that, but not the entire company. Go no further than the Eastern Kentucky district for proof on that. Numbers are still a huge pushing point for our district, and people's jobs are at stake if you don't get numbers.
When I told my manager (at the time) what you were saying about GameStop as a company moving away from pushing numbers, he laughed at me and said that would never be a reality. I'm not that pessimistic, but it's going to be a while before the rest of the districts adapt this policy.

The good news is, even with everythign I mentioned in the above post, the London, KY store still does it the customer service way. I think we still hit up everyone, but if they aren't going to buy it, I don't push too hard.

When I go in the Gamestop or EB in Lexington, nobody ever asks me for anything. And them bitchez do plenty of business.

And they still kick our ass because they pad their numbers.
I know the manager that runs the Crossroads store. He's crooked as fuck. For example: he gives people the GameStop discount off of his personal card in order to keep percentages high. The way it works is that if the customer already has an Edge card, it doesn't count against you for not selling them a subscription on your percentages.
The Georgetown manager is awesome though.

I was offered to secure a PS3 for no money down at the one on Nicholasville Rd.

The thing that really bugs me is the "you'll never be able to find this anywhere else" rhetoric they give. They told me I wouldn't be able to find Halo 3 anywhere but their store lol.

This is exactly what I think.
The damn people who are "omg I'm DISABLED and I CANNOT WORK" annoy the crap out of me. Get a job at a call center. Hell, if you're bedridden as long as you can speak you can surely do something where you call people from home. Seriously.
I don't know how many of you are familiar with the concept of Freecycle (google it), but I'm in this community on LiveJournal where we make fun of bad posts. I enjoy snark communities. Anyway, there was this lady basically begging for people to furnish her home and clothe her and her kids and stuff. Because she was OMG!DISABLED! The kicker? She couldn't find a doctor to say she was actually disabled and unable to work. Hmmmmm, fishy? I think so!
ANYWAY. Are you feeling better buddy?
-
There aren't any call centers or anything like that in my podunk town.
-
Well that sux. But you still have the internet and presumably a phone.
Hell, I know a kid who makes actual cash money playing World of Warcraft. I guess you get gold in the game or something and you can sell it to another player and they can pay you real monies? I never played it but he plays WoW like 8 hours a day and makes a shitton of money.
-

You can work at telemarketing from your own home, so stop making up excuses and get your ugly ass to work.
