Yeah, I just got promoted and took over a store.  Last week was my first week of sole ownership (there was a transition period where I worked with the manager who was leaving).  And I got the place to skyrocket to first in the district and sixth in the entire San Fran/Oakland/San Jose region.  But it was a lot of work and on Friday, we were audited by the District Manager - so it's been one of those weeks.

GameStop as a company has moved away from that; I'm sure some DMs pressure their subordinates to meet certain sales expectations, but mine does not.  He wants us to succeed, but his primary focus is on executing key operational matters, customer service and employee retention right now.  If he feels you're not meeting opportunities that you can certainly meet, like reserves, he will actually come up with an individualized plan for that particular store.  I know not every region is so lucky to have such a DM, but it was a large part of why I took on this burden.

You can decide layout of the store somewhat, like where things are located and how much room you want to give to each platform, but marketing is standard for any store.

I feel ya, man.  I got sick last week but couldn't miss work because it woulda thrown the schedule outta whack, ended up losing my voice and not being able to speak at all for about four or five days.  Even now, my throat is sore and my voice sounds really raspy.

Back when I worked at a GameStop the manager would keep us after work to clean up the store, but we didn't get any OT.  I didn't say anything 'cuz my cousin was the asst. manager there and I didn't want to "make waves", but that seemed so wrong to me. :/

gamestops around here don't have any problems.  I've been asked a few times if I want to pre-order something but they seem to stop asking you that if you're a REGULAR customer.  I don't get it.

As far as I know, when you get disability and stuff from the government, they don't have any riles as to what you can spend your money on.

Hell, my grandfather gets social security and disability, and he has a 2+ pack a day cigarette habit. We don't have cable, they can't pay their bills, and they have two mortgages on the house we live in. And because their income is limited they get all kinds of other government help with heating assistance and stuff a lot of times. We just got a new roof and all kinds of improvements to bring the house up to code a year or two ago, and it was all free. And I think it's kind of pathetic that the government pays for all that when they could afford it IF they weren't being idiots abuot their money.

I'm not saying it's FAIR, but I don't think there's legally anything wrong with people mooching off the government in such a way. Unfortunately. :'(

The way it works is that if the customer already has an Edge card, it doesn't count against you for not selling them a subscription on your percentages.

The Georgetown manager is awesome though.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the concept of Freecycle (google it), but I'm in this community on LiveJournal where we make fun of bad posts. I enjoy snark communities. Anyway, there was this lady basically begging for people to furnish her home and clothe her and her kids and stuff. Because she was OMG!DISABLED! The kicker? She couldn't find a doctor to say she was actually disabled and unable to work. Hmmmmm, fishy? I think so!
