No, horse training was taken out in the 50s.  Horses are only used for the Musical Ride in Ottawa.  Putting on shows for tourists and the like.

Training consists of firearms training, defensive tactics, Physical Training, Drill, and "Applied Police Sciences."  A lot of scenario training too.  Can't really go into specifics, however, Top Secret security clearance 'n all.  ;)

So how is the training regimen?  Do you have net access?  Is it like a boot camp or police academy type of thing where you are basically cut off from the world or anything cool like that?  Rum, sodomy and the lash or something like that?

There is net access, just little time to take advantage of it.  They keep us really busy.  Up at 5:20 every weekday, classes go from 8:00 to 4:30, and then there's a bunch of fitness, defensive tactics, and driving requirements to practise after hours, as well as homework assignments and filework.

It is very cut off from the outside world.  I know very little about what is going on in national and international news.  Except for news of when a Member has been killed in the line of duty, which unfortunately has happened twice in the past month.  Very sobering reminders of the risks of the job.

We are free to go off base after hours and on weekends, if we can spare the time.   some guys go out every Friday and Saturday night, but my policy is to keep my nose to the grindstone as much as I can.

I'm loving it here 90% of the time, though there are some rough days.

I would have moved to a southern state, because there, had I been corrupt, the rapings could more easily be kept secret, or covered up.  If I got in a pinch, I could restrict myself to only raping minorities.  Nobody would believe them even if they did decide to talk.

I'm a fairly simple man; I've long been obsessed with power.  Now, I'm content to just be an observer and watch things and think about how they turn out, but if I had not ended up being a bookish person that loves some Foucault, I think my natural interest in power would have lead to me seeking a position of some.  Again, if I weren't bookish, law enforcement would probably also scratch my itch for deduction and logic.

I dunno.  I could talk about the different paths my life took all day.  I know I have natural gifts when it comes to things like manipulation, put putting them to beneficial, self-serving use has always been something of a dilemma to me.

I know I am a man of reasonable intelligence, gifted with a decent education, schooled with adequate experiences of youthful delinquency, intelligent enough to know that using my talents in illegal ends would eventually get me caught--smart enough to know I wasn't that smart.  On the other hand, putting them to use for society was just not desirable.  I am a selfish man, and my physical constitution precludes me from seriously considering things like legal services and the military (although if I took better care of myself as a youth, that probably wouldn't be the case).  My moral or ethical "code," largely unspoken, and something I haven't put much thought into actually deciphering, prevents me from going into the legal field as a lawyer or something.  I have no difficulty doing wrongs, except when I have to sacrifice total innocents, which law comes down to in the end, no matter which side you are on.

I could go on, but I don't want to foul Boogie's thread with me rambling on about myself.  I'm a modest man in real life, believe it or not.  I can only talk about myself when I am behind this mask.

You're a scary character, TVC.  It sounds like you would do anything if you know that you can get away with it. The fact that you'll get your ass kicked in most fights is worrying rather than comforting, because you would plan ahead to make sure that a physical confrontation would never occur.  What's also scary is that you seem to have a genuine interest in perpetrating destruction just to know how it feels.

You ever talk about such stuff IRL w/ MAF and Drinky?  How do you feel about sacrificing friends to fulfill your goals?

At the point I am at, I would never go into some situation that I would see as any sort of risk of getting out of control, or going into risky territory.  I don't even think about them.  If I can't keep things mostly under my control, they are off the table.  Maybe that will be "scary" ten years from now, when I hopefully have more control, influence, and power, but right now, I'm just an observer.  I don't even know what my big plans would be right now.

Quote
You ever talk about such stuff IRL w/ MAF and Drinky?  How do you feel about sacrificing friends to fulfill your goals?

I don't generally talk about this stuff in real life.  Most people seem disinterested in talking about things that are this abstract.  In everything I have done, even in my more amoral, delinquent past, only once or twice have I "sacrificed" a friend to fulfill goals; never in a case where said goal was a gain for me, either.  I treat other people with the respect they deserve.  My philosophy is that we've all been thrown in this crazy game and we all have to find our own way with our own gifts, and the biblical golden rule makes sense and is fair.

I did have people I could talk about this sort of thing with, once, but they live completely different lives now, and I don't believe they see the attraction of a rationally selfish life anymore.

Missed ye!  I am now Store Manager for an anonymous videogame retail outfit, so I'm officially out of poverty and as I amass some funds over the next several weeks, I'll be able to take care of some things and create a somewhat comfortable lifestyle.  I am almost finished with my first teleplay and have been asked by some friends to come up with something cheap to shoot in the script department, as one of them has already begun to hire a crew to shoot anything this summer.

Well, I'm not that familiar with the US Marshals, but not really.  The RCMP is basically the Canadian equivalent to the FBI (and the Secret Service, and the DEA, and....), but it is also contracted to act as the municipal and provincial police force in certain areas.  Basically, they are the federal, provincial, and municipal police all rolled into one.  We do everything.

You don't even get to choose which province you get posted too? That sucks.

They ask us our five top choices for which province we would like to go to, but don't guarantee that we'll be sent there.  Then, once our province is known, we get to request our top 15 detachments we would like to be sent to, but again, no guarantee as to being sent there.

oh, nintenho.  Still as dense as ever.  Don't ever change.

The RCMP does:

General Policing
Marine Services
Crime Prevention
Federal Policing
Customs and Excise
Passport and Immigration
Commercial Crime
Drug Investigation
Foreign Missions
Protective Policing (ie. bodyguarding VIPs and Canadian officials)
Economic Crime
Counterfeiting Investigation
Diplomatic Protection
Emergency Response Team (RCMP version of SWAT)
Forensic Services
Traffic Law Enforcement
Airport Security
Aboriginal Policing

My own interest lies in doing any of the following:
Federal Policing
Protective Policing
Drug Section work
Organized Crime
Criminal Intelligence

But I may have to do a few years of General Duty policing first to get into those sections.

Alright, that's cool. Well, good luck with the rest of your training duder. I've got a buddy who's in U.S. Marshals training right now. The Mounties are pretty much the Canadian equivalent to that, right?

Well, I'm not that familiar with the US Marshals, but not really.  The RCMP is basically the Canadian equivalent to the FBI (and the Secret Service, and the DEA, and....), but it is also contracted to act as the municipal and provincial police force in certain areas.  Basically, they are the federal, provincial, and municipal police all rolled into one.  We do everything.

 :o Impressive.
