if you have a psp, you can download it and play.

be warned though, it aged bad, very bad.

Oh I know. That's another reason why I can't replay it. The game has aged so badly. I can't even get out of Midgar when I replay it. I've played the game from beginning to end 5 times, but I can't do it anymore.

I try every month to replay FF7 on my PSP. I can't play for more than an hour. :'(

I can't either.

I have been wanting to replay FF7 for years now but still hold off because I want to "forget as much as possible".

I'm not one of the "it has aged and my graphicwhore eyes cant take it :'("  guys because the game still looks fantastic to me. Just popped it in a few weeks ago to check it and it's just awesome.
Title: Re: i always wanted to do this in ff7
Post by: Himu on December 18, 2007, 01:36:52 PM
I can't play it, not because of the graphics, because the story and characters and translation.

When I was 12 years old it was the best story ever. Now it is absolutely horrible in my eyes. And the characters mostly suck.

you can patch the PC version for better models and shit, though last time i tried, it crashed on me like crazy but that was 2 years ago.

that's one of my worries too. I think it will ruin my great memories I have of this game if it turns out that the story and dialogue were actually bad.
Title: Re: i always wanted to do this in ff7

I still  get chills when regards to FFVII related stuff though. Like, those date scenes on youtube? The song Interuppted by Fireworks makes swoon with nostalgia. I have many fond memories of FFVII but I can't ever have fun with it any more these days. I blame the internet.

If only they'd remake it.

No joke, I get emotional as fuck when I deeply think about this game. I listen to the soundtrack an awful lot these last few months. Especially songs like You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet and Anxious Heart, so so wonderful.
Title: Re: i always wanted to do this in ff7
Post by: Himu on December 18, 2007, 01:54:41 PM
Yep yep. I get emotional when I listen to FFVII's soundtrack. I think FFVIII and VI have better soundtracks but...FFVII's is just "special", ya know?

And then when I think about the awesome mements that happen in FFVII: jumping to junon canon on a dolphin, sephiroth appearing at the shinra building and blood being all on the ground, barret in a sailor suit, Aeris' death, the entire Junon escape segment on the second disc...I just get nostalgic and it reminds me why I, at one time, loved Final Fantasy. I may not be able to play FFVII in its current state, but fuck if I haven't played a game that shaped as many memorable moments as that game, which is why I kinda resent all the FFVII whoring. To me they ruined something special. =/

12 years old really is the golden age for jrpgs.
Title: Re: i always wanted to do this in ff7
Post by: Powerslave on December 18, 2007, 02:20:26 PM
People often dislike or 'dont like as much as' the FF7 soundtrack because it's midi I think. I think there's nothing wrong with that and is actually the charm of it. It doesn't even sound midi to me. I hear it as normal instruments.

While I like all the 3 soundtracks of the Final Fantasy's (that's right, there are only 3 FF games, FF7, 8 and 9), 7 has the most unique tracks of them all.
FF8 and 9 have great tunes, and I always listen to them, but most of it don't have that special feeling. It's good background music, ingame and offgame, but FF7 has just too many awesome songs and anthems like Still Fighting, JENOVA and Shinra Company Theme.
Don't get me wrong, VIII has killer tracks as well. Never Look Back, The Man With The Machine Gun, Under Her Control, Find Your Way....etc.. all of it.

As for FF7, I agree that it's the most memorable game of all time. There are just too many moments to mention. I've heard everyone say how much shocked they were when they finally left Midgar and realized that it was just the beginning of the game. Same happened for me. I really thought leaving Midgar would be the moment where it would change to disc 2.

I still have no problem with repaying FF7. Once you play it for more than an hour or two it gets better and you forget that Cloud is walking around with blocks for hands.

Leaving Midgar for the first time was like top 5 moments in gaming imo

After that you have the world map and tons to explore and it was just "wow"

Mos def, but I still want one. =/ If not a remake, I'd love a remastered version with cleaned up graphics, more coherent story (apparently the international version that was only released in Japan answers a lot of my questions and fixes up the plot a bit), better translation, and more section of Midgar to explore and I'd be made. But nope, we keep getting these remakes and rereleases of FFI-VI. I would love for rereleases or remastered versions of FFVII-IX.

remake? lol who wants to see cloud crossdressing and getting manly love in 1080p  :lol

I would. I always make Cloud nice and pretty, to the point Don Conero always picks him.  :-*  :-[

PSP remake will be more than fine by me!

i mean, they are doing ff3/ff4 and soon ff5/ff6 (not sure about this) all for DS, so why not ff7/8/9 for psp? Crisis Core engine is ready to be used.

But that's exactly the point I'm trying to make. You won't get to see Cloud crossdressing. The thing about FF7, 8 and 9 is, there were tons of things to do and areas to explore and people to talk and inside jokes and stuff in every corner. With FFX and onwards, they fucking threw that aspect out of the fucking window.

So yeah, prepare for a straight to the point no bullshit and jokes FF7 remake whenever it comes.

You know, looking back, you are right. FFX and XII didn't have stuff like that. X-2 did but it wasn't done nearly as well, and I'm one of that game's supporters.

Well, there is a "massage" scene between Yuna and that blondie in FFX-2, and a hot spring scene, i know the game isn't serious or anything like that but i still think there is a chance not to filter ff7/8/9 jokes because of this.

Man one of the thigns I loved about FFVII was being able to go under water. I have played hundreds of rpgs and it was one of the few that let you do that. You could go anywhere in the damn world and it was really unique. One of the reasons I'm jizzing over LO is because you can go under water in that game. Something about traveling under water to find hidden caves and finding rare loot is just ORGAZM city to me
Title: Re: i always wanted to do this in ff7
Post by: y2kev on December 20, 2007, 12:54:02 PM
My first time playing the game was me underwater and this:

"Wow, sure is dark down here....hey, what's that giant green thing? Looks kinda funny. It's arms are stuck all up. *bump* Uh oh.

*ten seconds later*

Goddamn."

I've been afraid of Emerald Weapon ever since. Something about deep dark depths that scares the crap out of me.

The coolest moment in gaming ever for me. Gave me goosebumps like fuck. I got chills when the whole power of the city was cut out due to the Mako Cannon absorbing all of the Mako....following by that moment of complete dark and silence......then the charge and fire, windows and whole sections of the city breaking and falling apart because of the extreme force..

Epic.

i don't necessarily think the remakers are faggy, as they could do some great things with the game (streaming seamless world midgar 3rd person behind camera omg), but yeah, you're right about some if its charm probably being lost. no more honeybee inn, for sure.

but the haters are really ridiculous with the hate sometimes.

You know what I hate most about these haters. They try to play FF7 off as a game that's so popular and loved because it was many people's first RPG. While this is true, and also applies to me... it's not the only and definitely not the most important reason. It has legitimately too many great moments and scenes and events. No shitty "he poisoned a whole town!" thingie can touch that.

i rented it once, and i got till the part where you jump on the train right after the random encounter (lol). i was like ''whoa, this is amazing, but there are still 3 discs left, and i don't have enough time to finish this.'' so i took out the disc, and put disc #2 in... it wouldn't let me continue :'(

It's the most successful FF to date, of course it's hated!

i don't necessarily think the remakers are faggy, as they could do some great things with the game (streaming seamless world midgar 3rd person behind camera omg), but yeah, you're right about some if its charm probably being lost. no more honeybee inn, for sure.

but the haters are really ridiculous with the hate sometimes.

the game has so many amazing scenes.

Totally agree. It's not the deepest RPG in the world, and if you know what you're doing it isn't hard or complex, but damn if the game isn't memorable.

And half the faggy whiners are doing it to spite themselves. If it wasn't for FF7, Americans wouldn't buy RPGs anyway and none of RPGs that get brought over here would even see the light of day in America. If it weren't for the smash commercial success of FF7.

Something about the music at the end of the game is so amazing to me. Like, it has this really somber tone to it, and yet it is totally triumphant and bombastic.

What song is that? It makes me  :'(

The Sister Ray music is just scary though.

I know but I have been listening to the soundtrack for ages now, almost every day, and these ones are played the most. I like ALL of the songs of course, but these are just a notch better than the rest. I mean, while Gold Saucer is a good and cheery track, it will drive a man completely MAD if he listens too much to it :lol
