Yes, similar to the Motorstorm bundle, the new MGS4 bundle features an 80GB PS3 with some PS2 backwards compatibility.

only the ps2 cpu is being software emulated, ps2 gpu is hardware even in the 80gigs so it's like 90% bc

Not really. The PS3's upscaling just makes gives everything a softer look, which removes the jaggies but also make some games too blurry. Also, PS2 games with native 480P rendering look better at 480p than upscaled.

What's the big deal? A bundle will only save you about $30 anyways. You can easily save that much or more by waiting for the right deal on the internet.

Well you can criticize MS all you like for their multi-SKU policy, but Arcade, Premium, Elite seems a lot clearer than 20GB, 60GB, 80GB, 40GB.

Not to mention Sony promised Full BC at the beginning. Many of my PS3 owning friends are confused when I tell them that their 80GB PS3s aren't compeletely BC.

80/40 -- 80 is being phased out but apparently will be re-bundled

It's like saying MS has the core, arcade, pro, premium, halo, elite....they aren't all out there at the same time. at least not with official marketing support and such.

Sony's biggest problem is that the average consumer thinks that the different SKUs just have different hard drives. I can imagine a few people being really upset when their PS3s didn't have the capabilities that

they expected. Most people probably won't bother to return their PS3s but stuff like that causes loyalty to the Playstation brand to dwindle even further.

That's the corporate line, but in retailer reality it's different because the PS3 wasn't selling... they still have 20/40/60 in Japan retail, but they haven't announced the 80 here afaik. I think you can still get 60 in the US if you look for it, can't you?

There were several deals on the Sony website where you could have gotten it for $350 or so and still be eligible for 5 free blu-rays.

Buying a PS3 for $600 at launch is possibly the worst videogame-related purchase I've ever made. :'(

I don't think it's a big deal. I seriously doubt we'll get any more BC after this gen. Sony made a poor decision by promising something that they couldn't afford to fulfill and MS just kinda went along. Both companies have probably realized that the costs assoicated with BC or the bad publicity for poor implementation is just not worth it.

Are you serious? That's a pretty big risk to take. It could either help or deal another huge blow to the PS3. I think it's better if Sony just forget about it. As the Sixaxis have shown, Sony knows nothing about motion controls.

This news is pretty good, I was looking for a 60 gig b/c I want full BC but they're impossible to find :( I guess I'll be getting an 80 gig.
