I have never seen or heard of this before. I press the power button and the ring lights green for a moment, and then it turns off. No red ring or anything. I have checked the cables several times, and no response. The system is hosed and it's not even telling me so. What a piece of garbage. I haven't even turned it on in like a week. The DVD drive won't even open. . .I'm going to have to fucking PLY it open to get the disc out.
-
Perhaps it's just the power supply then
-
Nope, I have checked. The system is D-E-A-D dead. I have not touched it in roughly a week. Right now, I have jiggered everything jiggerable. The light on my power brick is orange, when I power on, it turns green for a moment, and then flicks back to orange.
Everything is plugged in securely.
-
So now you can finally get a 360 with HDMI?
-
Fuck that. I'm not touching a 360 until I know they work well, which, well, isn't now.
-
lawl
-
You had a lemon mb pro too, didn't you? Must be pissed
-
I am fucking pissed. I don't even get the courtesy of a red ring?
-
tvc, there is a way to get the disc out....let me check for you...1 min.
-
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906935
this is it.
-
And people keep telling me to get a fucking 360. Maybe if the machine wasn't designed by distinguished mentally-challenged monkeys and assembled in some third-world country by smelly peasants.
-
his 360 is old as fuck, ichi.
-
The machine's only like 3 years old. NONE of them qualify as old, dude.
Here are the (still working) game machines that I own, all older than the XBox 360:
NES
SNES
Super Famicom
Sega Genesis
Sega CD
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast
PlayStation 2
TurboGrafx-16
TurboGrafx-16 CD
I'm sorry, but fuck your lowered expectations where a 3-year-old piece of hardware is considered old.
-
dude, there have been at least 2 revisions to the 360.
the old ones usually die in 2 years or less, this is the hard fucked up truth.
and stop listing your systems please, none had a gpu like the 360 with not enough cooling.
-
:lol My PS1 died within the first year. My PS2 died around 3.
What's the big deal if it's under warranty? You know, things break.
I really hope you were being sarcastic here. "Who gives a damn if the thing is a POS and breaks six months after you buy it and you have to send it in and then wait a couple of weeks to get it back, until it breaks again in a few months, repeat ad nauseum until your warranty expires and you have to buy a new one?"
I care, Groo. I care.

None were as badly designed as the 360? Thanks, buddy. 'Nuff said!
-
didn't i say they made revisions?
-
They didn't work, apparently. Scenester bought a system last year and it was broken OUT OF THE BOX. Overheating is still a huge problem. It's just a badly designed system.
Seriously, I can't believe the Xfaggotry on this board has reached such a level that people are actually EXCUSING the worst game console (in terms of reliability) in, well, history. :lol
-
the system he bought was old as well iirc.
ichi, i know more than you about the 360 and it's problems, there is no need for you to tell me what works or what doesn't.
this isn't about XFAGGOTRY, wtf is wrong with you? you sound more pissed than TVC who actually had a system die on him.
-

ichi, i know more than you about the 360 and it's problems, there is no need for you to tell me what works or what doesn't.
Then perhaps you shouldn't try to excuse the numerous, well-reported hardware issues. I am surprised there hasn't been a class action lawsuit against Microsoft over this, honestly.
this isn't about XFAGGOTRY, wtf is wrong with you? you sound more pissed than TVC who actually had a system die on him.
"They've made revisions! It's not the 360's fault it was designed like a POS and doesn't have enough cooling! STOP POSTING YOUR RELIABLE SYSTEMS ARRRGH"
Sounds like Xfaggotry to me.
And if I sound pissed, it's because I want to play the games that are out on the 360 but I refuse to buy something that's been so shoddily designed and is being peddled as dishonestly as this is by Microsoft.
Fuckin' Microsoft. :maf
-
Ichi, the issue is that inspite of bad hardware design, it has the best game library. So missing out on three years of great games just because you're scared of it breaking seems a bit silly.
I refuse to buy shoddy hardware, sorry.
And PS2 still has the best game library, babe, and probably will for at least the next five years.
-
My 360 hasn't given me any problems yet (those freeze-ups a while back were due to XBL), and I leave it on an average of 4-5 hours a day. It's on right now. I just let it idle.
-
3 years warranty, sue them for what now? and before this they were sued, at least someone tried to sue them iirc.
and i already said it's faulty as fuck, it dies, the cooling is shit, how is this an xfag? i am not fucking blind to this you know.
and i do know there are better revisions out there, simple as that.
-
I've been actively trying to get my 360 to die. Like that night I left it on overnight paused on E4. I want to be part of the club.
-
afaik no red ring means microsoft will charge you for repairs :/
well, that's what it means for civilians, anyhow. maybe they'll hook you up
-
there is a price drop coming, better wait for that than let MS fix your old one.
but that's just me.
-
The hardware really is atrociously designed but:
1) PS3 sucks
2) Wii sucks
3) 360 games are awesome
What are you gonna do

jigga wha?
-
wait...this could be a power supply problem.
-
So TVC is Wii exclusive now? :hyper
we can play smash together bro :hyper
-
I don't have a falcon unit, so I've been weary of stressing my unit. If it weren't for the hardware issues I would buy all multi-platform games for the 360. But since the systems have been so unreliable, I've been picking up PS3 versions of multi-platform games, which irks me due to the lack of achievements, friends list, yada yada yada.
-
I recommend only buying a 360 at a place like Costco or Sams Club where you have unlimited returns for the lifetime of the product.
-

Uh, PS2 was the biggest piece of shit in history before 360 came and took the crown. I've had one 360 with a bad DVD drive in a year and a half of ownership, but I had to replace my PS2, and my dad's PS2, and like 4 of my friends had to replace theirs. And my second PS2 got shitty too so I had to buy a PS3. At least it's free to replace a 360 and they're actually fixing the problem instead of waiting 4 years and then making you buy a revision.
And unless you want to play 5 year old games in 5 years, no PS2 will not have the best library.
-
i honestly won't get a 360 because of the hardware failures.
i know i'm "missing out" but gaf and other forums have convinced me it's mere a matter of time until my 360 overheats to the point where it causes the machine to go supernova destroying all of earth
-
lol, I love how I bring up shoddy hardware and everyone is like "BUBUBUBUBUBU PS2." I have had my PS2 since 2001, I'm still using the same unit and it's never given me any problems. :lol
And I don't give a fuck if I'm playing newer or older games. If I've never played it before, it's new to me!
-
there are like...11 revisions of the fat ps2.
look, i never had any problems with my ps2 but that doesn't mean there are no problems with it.
and i am not saying 360 is any better, i think it's worse but it's much better now.
-
I am fucking pissed. I don't even get the courtesy of a red ring?

my ps2's laser got fucked like a year after I got it. People give 360 all this shit when they forget like everyone ever had issues with DRE with ps2, and that didn't stop them from getting more ps2's. I'm on my third fucking ps2.
-
The 360's problems are ten times worse than the PS2's ever were.
-

Yes, because saying 360 is worse than PS2 is bububu.
There are people who haven't replaced their 360s you know. I've never had RROD and I have mine on a lot.
You won't be playing PS2 games you haven't played before 5 years from now, unless you're dipping in to Ford Racing Challenge and MudButt 3.
The 360's problems are ten times worse than the PS2's ever were.
Not Falcons.
And they are replaced for free.
-
Only if you're lucky enough to get the RROD instead of one of the many other possible failures.
-
hey himuro...

Anyway, folks, stop gnashing your teeth just 'cause I called a spade a spade and said what everyone knows, which is that the 360 is a piece of shit.
-
Only if you're lucky enough to get the RROD instead of one of the many other possible failures.
You mine like... Drive failure, which still has a 1 year warranty?
Or just buying it at Costco?
Or Just getting a $40 warranty at BestBuy or whatever?
Still better than paying out $200-300 over and over again.
Anyway, folks, stop gnashing your teeth just 'cause I called a spade a spade and said what everyone knows, which is that the 360 is a piece of shit.
Uh, we're calling a spade a spade. Are you even reading our posts? Who here said 360 is a reliable piece of hardware? We said that you're hyperventilating over fixable problems and missing out on gaming as a result.
-
I think my 360 is falcon, but I havne't had a problem with my 360 at all.
-
Forty bucks is forty bucks.
The Falcon thing is ridiculous, since everything I've read clearly states that the overheating problem is not the CPU, it's the GPU. And what about the scratched disc problem?
-
the gpu is 80nm now
the two "X" under the cpu/gpu are a little different
some component are different
and there are 3 heatsinks now with a heatpipe.
-
5 years of no games is 5 years of no games. Costco warranties are free. MS replacement is free for 1 or 3 years. All in all, better than PS2's situation.
Disc issues are not as common, I had mine in 2006. I didn't even need to repurchase my BB warranty because the unit was still within my MS warranty.
-
I can just get a PS3, while I wait for them to shrink the GPU's size to 65nm. The PS3's future-proof.
-
That would be more logical than playing PS2 in 2013. Why don't you have one?
-
the new benq drive and the new hitachi-lg drive are better, no DRE at all for me (benq) or my friend. (new hitachi-lg)
they are loud, maybe even louder than the old ones (hitachi at least) but no DRE.
-
God Damn Evilbore, you guys are as bad as the SDF on GAF.

It does if you don't have 360 already.

Even Agent Icebreezy and GhaleonEQ would be embarrassed by this thread.

Who was the cigarillo who reluctantly continued to pioneer Halo when he realized he thought Halo 3 sucked?

Was forgiving PS2's technical foibles when the alternatives were XBox and GameCube Sfag syndrome?
How many Sony products must I buy before I satisfy ToxicAdam? :gloomy
-
Only PS3 game I wanted was Gundam Musou and I just got the PS2 version of that last week.
-
What is Toxic talking about? I'm a proud Sony supporter and have purchased 3 ps2s!!!
-
Only PS3 game I wanted was Gundam Musou and I just got the PS2 version of that last week.
:-X :-X :-X
only 360 game i wanted was IDOLMASTER but I went on Dateline NBC last week
-
That's nice. Your point?
-
I want a couple of ps3 games, but ps3 could never replace my 360. My 360 is my mutli platform system.
-
Was forgiving PS2's technical foibles when the alternatives were XBox and GameCube Sfag syndrome?
Owning a product doesn't abscond you from being a fool. Comparing the PS2 problems to the 360 just shows how far up your ass your head is.
I'm gonna bust off an old man rant here. When I was 16 years old, I bought the 32x because I was a diehard Sega fan. Loved the Genesis, had it since launch. There was no reason to think that Sega would NOT continue with their support for this peripherial. My parents didn't support my gaming habit .. so all the money came out of my pocket.
Well, no need to re-hash history on the 32x, but needless to say for the next 10 years I did not buy ONE Sega product. Yea, I missed out on some great games .. but you do not reward a company when they fuck over the consumer (especially when that consumer is you). You have some fucking pride and keep your money in your pocket. Look, if the PS3 or the Wii isn't for you .. great. You probably already have 1500+ invested in the 360, so you're going to ride out the generation with this machine.
But going forward, if you reward MS by buying their next tinderbox despite it's past misgivings .. then it's just a sad reflection on you as a person.
-
i bought an hd dvd, toshiba abandoned hd dvd, omg i'm gonna abandon all toshiba products omg pride.
-
i think the good news here is that TA has finally learned to let go and forgive past mistakes
-
just buy more blu-ray disks.
-
i bought an hd dvd, toshiba abandoned hd dvd, omg i'm gonna abandon all toshiba products omg pride.
You probably should, Toshiba knowingly fucked everyone :lol
-
My 360 froze on me like 2 or 3 times. That's about it. It never happened while I was in a middle of a game. either. I got one with a BenQ drive, I guess that's why I don't get DREs.

lol, ok.
4 or 5 broken PS2s went through my house before the gen was over. I've had 2 360's. I know one friend who had a 360 replaced twice, two others who never had it replaced. All of my PS2 owning friends had to upgrade to a slim. My head's up my ass?

Sounds like you're the one with the head up your ass if you skipped Saturn and especially Dreamcast because 32x was weak.
PS1 and PS2 both had quality woes with disc drives, I guess you're Wii-only this gen? MS has done more to fix their 360 gaffs than Sony ever did with their previous two consoles.
And I have 360, PS3, and Wii you stupid fuck, do you even read my posts?

It's my roommate's.

It's a shame there isn't more consumer like McDragon and AdmiralViscen in this country. The American Auto Industry would be still be on top.

pride for wasting money on a fucking electronic :lol

Are we still debating what console has the greatest failure rates?
The discussion is over.
Fairy tale sony console failures have been debunked.
The XBOX and the X360 have the worst track record.
My only console issues ever were;
- Dreamcast not being able to read certain game/demo disks. Odd things like soaking the disk in hot water would make them play.
- Xbox 1 died DRE's - replaced it with the S-controller Sega Rally bundle.
Thats it.
My X360 never died - but everyone I know who has ever owned one has replaced it 1-2 times.
My fat PS2 never had any issues, nor did my PSOne Slim PS2, PS3 or PSP.
No nintendo failures except front loading NES issues....
-
the year of the ps3 continues
pretty soon it'll be only working console you have
-

Says the guy who bought a PS3 after the ticking time bombs that were PS1 and especially PS2 ::)
Abrader, can you quote me one person who didn't say that the 360 had the worst quality of any console? The point is that 360 isn't the first console to require multiple replacements, but at least they're free.
-
Come on, dudes. Sega screwed people over with the 32X and the Saturn (in the US, all the really great games stayed Japan-only, and then they killed the console early). Yeah, they tried to make up for it with the Dreamcast, but it was too little, too late. They basically sealed their fate when they killed off the Saturn (which was PROFITABLE in Japan) three years in.
And this is coming from a diehard Saturn fan who owns over 100 Saturn games.
And at least Sega's hardware was reliable. Microsoft can't even do that. Fuck them.
-
TA story would be totally fine by me if he had multiple 360 or any console die on him, it happens all the time (especially with the 360) but not buying anymore products from sega because they made a stupid decision with an addon and for "pride"?
:rofl :rofl :rofl

It's about self-respect and not letting yourself be treated like a bitch by a big company that doesn't give a shit about its customers and smears crap all over them while smiling and saying "Hey, shit breaks."
-
My PS2 didn't die so I bought a PS3.
My 360 hasn't died so I'll buy a Xbox 3.
I have never had any console die on me actually. :o
-
That's funny, I thought it was about having access to the latest software.
MS extended and then re-extended their warranty and revised the console twice, it can be a frustrating situation but you can't say they've done nothing.
-
Well, I will grant you that the ps1 was pretty shitty. I think I had to do the "Wal-mart swap" a few times during that generation. But then again, that machine was almost never turned off during my college days.
But I never had a problem with the PS2 (I bought it when GTAIII dropped). But its probably only had 200 hours of playtime on it.

You can mock me, but I made a decision that Sega did me wrong with my money, so I chose not to support them from then on. It's really the only power you have in this country. To shrug it off and go "Hey, it's only money!" is pretty much allegorical to the Idiocracy we are slowly sliding into.
-
and ichi, dreamcast was reliable?

You bought a PS2 after swapping PS1 multiple times?! Have you no self respect sir?
Though I suppose self respect would become a non-issue after stealing from Walmart repeatedly.
-
and ichi, dreamcast was reliable?
lol, keep comparing the XBox 360 to other consoles all you want, that doesn't mitigate the fact that the 360's problems are worse than all of 'em put together.
Ya know, I owned two Panasonic TVs. They crapped out on me, and the warranty people didn't want to do anything for me because their technicians couldn't reproduce the problem. I'm never buying a Panasonic product again. Sometimes you gotta take a stand and not let people shovel shit at ya.
-
i didn't compare them actually, you said sega's hardware are reliable.

I have never had any console die on me actually. :o
I've never had a system die on me. My ps2s never "died" per se, they just got DRE's up the ass and wouldn't read non dvd ps2 games. If I put a normal video dvd or a psx game in there or a blue back ps2 game like ICO or MvC2, it'd go batshit.
-
i thought my ps1 died on me once, so i got it replaced, but it still wouldn't work--or so i thought. the problem was the videocable which got messed up. i replaced that, and it worked.
and my old ps2 is kinda dead. i mean, it still reads discs, but it makes this weird engine sound when it does.
-
Oh God the engine sputter. Got I hate that shit. PS2's hardware is such shit.
-

i didn't compare them actually, you said sega's hardware are reliable.
My launch Dreamcast still works. I know some launch units had problems reading certain discs.
fine by me.
and to TA, if a 10k+ car or my hdtv died on me in a year or so I'd totally not support them anymore.
but a gaming device? i don't think so.
as for my own hardware failures, only trouble i had was the ps1, my most favorite console, to read discs i had to flip it upside down :lol

Post of the Year.

This thread is awesome. :lol
All I see is people trying to get a person to buy the console with the best software. It's just unfortunate that it's also the worst console hardware. I was weary as fuck to get a 360, but when the price dropped and the Falcons came out, I couldn't resist anymore. On the other hand, I'm a huge FPS fan, unlike Ichi. The simple fact is that Ichi won't know what he's missing out on until he buys a 360. Ignorance is bliss. I was one of the biggest "fuck next-gen" proponents until I actually owned a 360. And now I fucking love it. But if Ichi can truly wait until PS3 builds a decent library, then more power to him. I couldn't wait on next-gen anymore.
-
I love my 360, but it's a POS. I'll continue to support it because (mostly) the best versions of games come out on the system and it has a terrific library IMO.
If the tables turned tomorrow, I'd feel the same about the PS3.
I don't give a fuck about these companies. I go where the games are.

But mupepe, if a single brand of condoms kept failing, how many accidental children would you have before you gave up on them?

Your post echoes my sentiment in 2006, except I'm not a huge FPS fan at all. My first FPS for the console was Halo a year later.

But mupepe, if a single brand of condoms kept failing, how many accidental children would you have before you gave up on them?
Huge difference, babe.
If my 360 dies, I can send it to be repaired. It's a minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless.
However, if my condom fails, I have a responsibility that costs me thousands of dollars each year and physically and emotionally strains me for at least the next 18 years.

or you can "send" the child to be "repaired." just use the special burlap sack and cinder block envelope and address it to "the bottom of the lake"
-
Not buying a 360 because you're scared that it might break is just as dumb as passing up a hot piece of ass because you fear that the condom might break.

You can send that in to get repaired, since there is no god.
think that's called "halted in production"

And people keep telling me to get a fucking 360. Maybe if the machine wasn't designed by distinguished mentally-challenged monkeys and assembled in some third-world country by smelly peasants.
I've been in stores lately standing in front of the in-stock 360s ready to buy one, and then the fear of one dropping dead on me sets in.
I'm holding out for $250 price point and decreased chance of RRODing.
-
Yeah, the Falcon is probably comparable to launch PS2s, Ichi.
-
for people who are put off by stories like this, at least you know you'll be able to play games for a long time before shits out on you. and then you can just send it in in the first 3 years which is a butthurt but at least you'll get your 1 month of XBL gold back.
Not buying a 360 because you're scared that it might break is just as dumb as passing up a hot piece of ass because you fear that the condom might break.
wtf kind of comparisons are you guys making?
tvc, try kicking it.

this plausible-sounding interview from an ms insider suggests that falcon failure rates are still at ~10%: http://www.8bitjoystick.com/archives/jake_inside_source_reveal_the_truth_about_xbox_360_red_ring_of_death_failures.php
so if that's accurate, it's much better than older 360 models, but still far below industry standards
afaik falcons still use the 90nm gpu, which produces most of the heat, and some of them still use that 'x-clamp' that's apparently responsible for the motherboards bending -- so high failure rates wouldn't be surprising
-
anyway, now that i'm considering a japanese 360, the difference between 360 and shitty hardware past is this:
your imported dreamcast or ps2 breaks? open it up and recalibrate the laser
your imported 360 breaks? you're fucked

I have (had, traded it for my PS3) a large model PS2. It didn't tear up once. No blue disc problems or anything. Worked perfectly.
I bought a 360 at launch as well. I had two red ring on me. The second red ringed within two months. The problem with that is
1.) I'm poor
2.) At the time, Microsoft was being the biggest fucking douchebags on the face of the fucking planet by charging the $129 repair fee. It red ringed right before the Halo 3 beta.
Distressed because Microsoft fucked me over RIGHT BEFORE the fucking beta test for possibly one of two multiplayer games I've ever enjoyed for more than a month at a time, I fucking looked up how to fix it myself, and me and my friend fixed it in his garage last summer.
First of all, if I can fix my 360 better than Microsoft can refurbish 360s by fucking overheating it, that's pretty fucking sad. Not only that, the system was out for a year and a half, and they waited until after the fucking widely publicized beta test to instate the three year warranty. On top of that, when they had the one year warranty, they fucked over everyone who had their 360 serviced by only giving them one month like Microsoft did whenever the systems first came out.
As for Sony, I've never had one problem with the PS2. Of course, I know from working at GameStop that they fuck up, but not NEARLY as often as the 360s got fucked up. I've had so many dumbass customers try to return or trade in RROD 360s because Microsoft fucked them over.
So, this is why I basically play my PS3 more than my 360, even though I admit the 360 has the superior line up of games. You see, when I turn on my PS3, I don't worry about it fucking up ever. The fucker's a tank. I've never had one single problem with it. In my time at GameStop, I've only seen ONE dead PS3 come in. Ever.
So yeah.

the gpu is actually 80nm or at least it's different in some way, it's not the same.
the xclamps are a little different according to Relix on gaf, he opens and fix 360 all day and i trust him.
thanks to his guide i removed my old 360 xclamp and it worked.

bo bo bo the superior line up of catalogue awesome batshit insane games.

Everything I've read indicates the GPU is the biggest source of heat...and they're not fixing that till late this year. :/
