There's like nothing going into next year. Did kill it with our ways?
Dreamcast: Never Forget
-
When I finally track down someone with a pandora battery, I may even use mine!
But, yeah, I think most developers are likely scared away by the rampant piracy. Do PSP releases even crack the sales charts?
-
I don't know, the PSP has the startling ability to sell relatively large amounts of units without actually selling a lot of games. It's hard to say exactly what's going to happen when even less games come out for it.
-
I want games :( I mean I have a lot already, but I want more :(
-
poor psp :'(
greatest handheld ever, killed by convenience
dreamcast 2 portable edition, we hardly knew ye :'(
-
Phantasy Star Portable, Super Robot Wars A Portable, and Gundam Battle Universe are coming out this summer (in Japan). I'm psyched!
But yeah, aside from Kingdom Hearts Birth to Sleep, there's nothing for 2009.
-
If someone would localize Dungeon Maker 2, I'd totally buy it. Of course, I would likely be the only one who would care enough about that game. :'(
-
I guess Im ok on the PSP front as I got mine pretty recently.. still wading through Metal Gear Acid and Valkyrie Profile. Definitely the best handlheld ever and I wish I could hack it :'( I'd love some SNES on my stick

Over on GAF I think I even offered cash to get someone to do my battery for me, and got no takers. Everyone just kept telling me how easy it was and just to find someone who already had one. They don't realize I live in a shack in the woods.
-
awww. gotta love this forum :-*
-
Muck, I have a battery. If you want I can send it to you sometime when I get around to it.
That would be awesome. There's no huge rush, so if it's ever convenient for you, let me know. Be aware though, I live in Canada, so shipping would take a bit longer going both ways, so don't do it unless your sure you wouldn't be using it for a week or two.
-

Hell, if it winds up working out, I'll send you my battery when it's done so you can do yours. Gotta spread the karma.

Buy a DS Flashcart guys and lets STICK IT TO THEM

:lol Taking the war to the streets!
-
Yeah, it's pretty much dead after Secret Agent Clank comes out. Unless they announce a rash of titles at E3, which seems like a long shot, it'll get the GameCube treatment (Madden and LEGO Batman and big multiplatform titles like that) until it fades into obscurity. I would imagine we'll hear about a successor soon, though.
-
The DS software sales have been plain disappointing, Groo. But the fact of the matter is that the user base is so gigantic, that even if a disappointing percentage of owners purchase a heavily marketed game, it'll sell a number of units.
-
considering how much ass the system is kicking in sales (a lot), its flipping AMAZING how shit the software is selling. Its got to have the worst attach ratio of any system in history.
-
It does have a pretty horrible attach rate, from a purely anecdotal perspective. The worst part is that it's actually a good system with a good library, which is more than I can say for Sony's home console.
-

I blame Sony. By the time they were able to compel consumers to buy their handheld, piracy was already rampant.
As with the PS3, pricing themselves out of the market didn't help nor did the arrogance demonstrated early on.
:bow gaming ghetto :bow2
-
I don't think so. I think Sony has a good image with their handheld in terms of public perception. It's hip, it's affordable, it's mature, etc. It was a good start. I mean, let's face it - it has survived in a marketplace that was pretty much ruled by Nintendo alone for decades. The fact that the hardware sells is a start. It's a Xbox-like model. Try hard the first time out, know your limits and do better the second time around. They're building a brand.
-
I think the system was priced very competitively, but the software was too pricey.
Well its not like Sony fans were spending their money on PS3 games, so what gives?
-
PSP SUCKS I HAVENT EVEN DOWNLOADED SHIT FOR IT
-
Anecdotally: Black people buy PSPs, white people buy DS.
-
i love my psp. i haven't pirated any games for it :heart
-
I gave my PSP + 20 games away.
-
Muck, I have a battery. If you want I can send it to you sometime when I get around to it.
I don't even really know how to hack my PSP :lol. I got an SNES emulator, but it's pure shit.
the snes emulator was updated recently and is actually pretty decent now.
i bought a psp this year and have purchased VP, breath of fire 3, tales of eternia, gurumin, crisis core, and disgaea so far.
shame that such a capable handheld isn't getting better support. damn dirty pirates.
hopefully the star ocean remakes make it out over here so it can go out with a bang.
-
When I get around to sending it, you can just keep it :P.
:o Wow, thanks again. If you want any money for it when the time comes, let me know.
i love my psp. i haven't pirated any games for it :heart
It won't be about pirating for myself, so much as emu's and ripping games to the mem stick for load times etc.
The games in my neck of the woods are pretty cheap actually, not counting brand new releases.
-
The Xbox actually sold software.
oh god...I was so sure you were going to call the PSP "sexy". I would've stopped reading there :lol
If the hardware was selling to consumers willing to buy gaming software, I'd say that'd be a start. I'd say it's more like the PS3 model.
PS3 people buy a PS3 for non-gaming media first. Purchasing gaming software comes a distant second.
PSP people buy a PSP for non-gaming or free media first. Purchasing gaming software comes a distant second.
I'd like to see actual attach rates before we cry these failures. I know I've bought tons of PSP games. Most people I know have at least a 7:1 or better attach ratio.

confirmed
Yggdra Union (PSP)
Beautifully remade and loaded with enhancements, including: fully remastered audio and visuals, fully-voiced dialogue in both Japanese and English, a widescreen aspect ratio, additional difficulty settings, new unlockable content, and more!

If a system is to be judged by its games, then the PSP is a big, ol' brown nugget like its bigger brother.
I impulsively picked up the red, GOW PSP because I liked the way it looks. I soon realized that it was a mistake since I don't even use my phatty for anything other than checking the web when I'm in bed. The red PSP will be going back to the store. I'll just upgrade to a Slim when the PSP is officially canceled in a few months.
-
As far as I've seen PSPs are only owned by gangstas and casual gamers who are happy to play music on them or play one racing or sports game for years.
-
i blame capcom.
where is my megaman you fucking idiots.

Came and went since no one bought them, I thought.
-
not my problem.

It's actually doing better than the DS in Japan right now. How come there aren't any big Japanese titles on the way, outside of inevitable Monster Hunter rehashes?
-
I had a PSP for three years and in that time I've bought the following:
Sid Meier's Pirates
Lumines
Lumines II
Katamari thing
Every Extend Extra
lol.
-
All for $20 or less, I might add.

Because, so far, outside of the MH titles, the software is not selling. Also, the PSP sells well in Japan not just because it can play games, but also due to its strength as a multimedia device as well. You can get a camera and TV turner attachment in Japan, too.
-
I think that when the PSP-2000 came out they dropped the price to 150 across the board, and if the games were priced from the beginning at around $15-25, it could've been even greater.
What I don't understand about UMDs costing so much to buy is that the UMD is a Sony propriety format, why does it cost that much? Does Sony really want that much profit?
-
Even the makers of GoW PSP and Daxter are literally packing it up. (http://www.readyatdawn.com/news.php?offset=0&news_toc=0&pr_toc=0)

Link?

Uh, my post was a link. But since you couldn't see that:

Holy shit :rofl
Wow
-
PSP lasted a lot longer than expected. It practically was on its deathbed in 2006 and there is still major software released for it on 2008.
-
I hope the Star Ocean remakes still come out.
Even if 2008 marks the end of the PSP from a commercial software point of view, it's still worth owning, IMO. I have enough games for it, (and some I haven't gotten yet) that the machine is still relevant to me.
Also, CPS2 games on the go :bow2

Super Robot Wars A Portable comes out on June 19th and Gundam Battle Universe comes out July 19th. Neither are going to to do fucking insane Monster Hunter numbers, but they should both do very well.
Phantasy Star Portable comes out in July, too. And, there's still Dissida: Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep on the way.
