My advice was going to be quit soda, which you did! But you need to replace that shit with water.
Also, if you drink a lot, stop. Alcohol screws up your metabolism.
Good advice, good plans so far. Do you have any plans on the food you'll be eating in small portions?
Also doing some crunches before you go to bed will help tone your stomach. You won't see results for awhile but eventually you'll begin losing weight on your sides

All I can say is to just not give up and if you do lose the weight, keep it off and don't fall into bad habits.
Ditch the high rep/low weight crap. (except for abwork). Useless.
That's pretty dumb, actually.

Generally ive always been under the impression that cardio is for rapid weight loss and while muscle burns more calories, the act of weight training doesnt burn as many calories as cardio.
I dont know very much about weight lifting, im just going off things ive read here and there. Id assume its harder to see results if a person is still overweight, and muscle weighs more than fat, which could skew how much weight youre losing per month.
:lol

it works in america
See, I believe I've seen you post this before. Can you add some sort of explanation? Every gym teacher at my school recommended at a high rep/low weight program.
Why, though? Insight, plz.

Well the thing is I did heavy lifting before as a weight loss regimen. I fell to 295 and didn't move after that for the three months I went. The last thing I want is to be built. I want to drop to 200 first, then from there choose muscle building or acrobatics training and continue along that path.
180x20x5 squats is a pretty hefty fucking workout, IMO.Why so many? That is 100 squats!!!

Well, you have some pretty dumb gym teachers then. Such high rep exercises don't really stress the muscles enough to grow or build. All it really ends up being is a really inefficient way of burning calories. You're not building muscle in any way with such high reps, and don't say "bu-bu-bu I want to tone my muscles", because as I say below, you can't spot reduce fat. I used to do 8-12 rep sets. The highest I would go rep-wise would be a crossfit program, which, tend to be more high-intensity endurance programs where the emphasis is on speed. And even then, I think crossfit exercises top out at 21 reps.
QuoteWhy, though? Insight, plz.
"Toning the stomach" by doing situps is a myth. You can't spot reduce fat. ie. you cannot do exercises in one area to lose fat in that one area. Now, doing abwork is useful to develop the muscles underneath that fat, but it doesn't matter what time in the fucking day you do it. Outside of doing situps (and you don't have to do all that many), visible abs are developed through diet, cardio, and genetics.
180x20x5 squats is a pretty hefty fucking workout, IMO.
Then I'd stick with high-intensity cardio. Which your program seems to be lacking. I mean, you're doing lots of cardio, but as a "warm-up" run, a "cool down" run, and a bike home. My impression is that you're not doing any of those with much intensity. Certainly if you're spending an hour and a fucking half on the treadmill, you aren't working yourself hard enough, unless you're a marathon runner or something.
Then again, you may have to ease yourself in to higher intensity workouts, considering that you do weigh over 300 lbs.
If you're going from doing nothing, and eating like shit, then even small lifestyle changes will have a profound effect. Going for a walk every day, taking the stairs rather than the elevator, skipping dessert, swapping water for soda, etc. Even by just doing this sort of bullshit you could start dropping a couple of pounds a week, depending on where you're starting. At the same time, you'll be preparing yourself for higher-intensity work down the line. The most important thing is to make sustainable changes, rather than doing a lot of crap for a month or two, then burning out, dropping the whole thing, spinning into a whirlwind depression where you convince yourself you're completely worthless and will never be able to accomplish anything in your entire miserable life so why even bother I mean why live in the first place it's not like anyone will ever see how special you are want to be with you or even come to love you this isn't some sort of fucking fairy tale so why don't you just end it all but before you do you'll make them see you'll make a noise so loud they'll never forget you--and then you've murdered a schoolroom full of disabled kindergartners, all because you tried to dive into heavy interval training before you were really ready.
I've been feeling real fucked up since some surgery which had the unfortunate side effect of screwing up my balance and subsequently cause me to move a lot less even after leaving the ICU. So I tried biting the bullet by going to this small neighborhood gym, and it occurred to me that I had no idea how any of these machines work, what they were supposed to do, and what training regimen I should use. I'd go back to free running, but in my current state, that's just a deadly accident waiting to happen. These machines though, I don't get them. For example, what's the difference in benefit between using one of the stationary bikes, or using the treadmill?

If you hijack this thread, I'm going to rape you.
Stationary bikes, just like any kind of bike, isn't as effective as running/walking because you're sitting down and you're using mainly your legs. With walking, it takes all your body to maintain balance and such.

It was a joke. Don't think too deeply into it. ::)
I apologize if it really made you that upset. My intentions weren't malicious.
I lost 115 lbs in about 18 months but I could have done it (healthily of course) in 12. Feel free to ask any questions.
I apologize if it really made you that upset. My intentions weren't malicious.
It didn't. If I haven't come to terms with being fat for going on 18 years, that's my problem. But was it really worth the time it took to make that post? Or the time it's taking to suffer the ensuing conversation we're still in?
Just a question, what are you reasons for not wanting to be fat anymore? Please tell it has nothing to do with being a virgin, if you are one.
I was trying to add a little humour to the topic (re: trying to be funny). I felt like it was light-hearted post. I even spoilered them just in case you didn't want to see them.
Maybe it's because I was anorexic a couple of years ago. I don't know, I just smirked when I thought of the idea.
Went from 275 lbs to 160 lbs. Now I'm 195 lbs and the gain has mostly been muscle (well, with glycogen a lot of it is water).
It is very tough. I was surprised at how strong the impulse was to eat crappy food. My body had long since adjusted to this bad diet and the first week was unbearable. I had terrible heartburn every night. I mostly just kept drinking water. After the first week (I lost about 10 lbs, mostly water of course), my body began adjusting to a healthier lifestyle. I had a lot more energy (despite eating much less), my mind was less muddled, and strangely enough, I began to sweat constantly. I'm guessing my metabolism was damn near nothing and now that it kicked on, the weight kept dropping.
Food is the most important thing. You need food. You need nutrition. Most people make the mistake of eating far too few calories or eating a bunch of empty food. My favorite food typically was oatmeal, eggs, chicken breast, cottage cheese, and brown rice. Sounds pretty bland but I spice it up. I love everything to be spicy so I load all my meat up with Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy or A1 Bold and Spicy, etc. For oatmeal, I loaded it up with Splenda. Ideally, you should eat all of these foods plain but only if you plan to be a bodybuilding competitor and need every single edge. Since you probably are not in this position, I would season it. As always, check the labels. Plenty of great, no calorie seasonings to make your food taste better. If you are vegetarian, be sure you get enough protein. It is an essential building block. Plenty of vegetables have high protein content but I like meat so I eat meat.
I lifted four times a week, ran twice, rested once a week. Once a week, I'd have a cheat day where I'd eat how I used to. I'd look forward to it and by the end of the day itself, I couldn't wait to get back on track. It is very powerful psychologically even though you essentially are halting your progress by one day. One day out of seven is not a huge deal so unless you eat 15,000 calories (unlikely), you will be just fine.
I lost in 18 months because the last few months, I coasted in and out. Being in college, I got into the whole drinking, eating crappy foods, weed, and partying thing. I maintained my weight at this point. You can do away with this entirely and get it done a lot faster.
If thats your goal, then diet, diet, diet! Do some light cardio (20 Minutes of Power Walking/Jogging) every other day (or every day if you want). That's the secret to losing weight/body fat. But first things first, evaluate and change your diet.
That's good to hear then.
A couple of things
- Don't go cold turkey on things, ween yourself of them. Candy, Juice, Soda and Fast Food. If you go cold turkey, you'll just crave them more down the line. It takes a while but its better to do it right.
- If you relapse (lol serious word) when it comes to your diet, don't beat yourself up over it. Just go with the flow and stick with your diet. Some people think they need to punish themselves for deviating from their diets, this only places a negative aspect on the whole "Living a healthier life" plan which should be a wholly Positive experience/life change.
- Fruit is good for you but like soda the sugar in the fruit that's taken in excess is turned into fat. Eat Fruit in the Morning and before a Workout/Cardio session.
Running hard for 30 mins will have an impact if you are taking in less calories than you are using, basically. But you'll probably plateau at some point. That's why I advocate writing everything down. When the improvement from strict cardio tapers off, introduce something new to the mix.
btw, max squat of 450lbs? :bow
that's fine. the key to running for 30 minutes is getting your heart rate up. start off slow. as long as you're actually working your body. don't puss out on it though

Something's gotta carry my body around, man. My thighs measured from under my ass cheek are like 35in around each.
well, 450lbs is 450lbs, to paraphrase Henry Rollins! If you put 450lbs on a barbell on the floor and told me to lift it or you'd shoot me, I'd tell you to go ahead and shoot me :lol
If you have shoulder flexibility issues, try 'shoulder dislocations'. Start with a long towel or something if it's too hard with a bar or broomstick. They work very quickly. Again, this is something you're going to need for parkour or gymnastics anyway, so you may as well start now.

I'm gonna work on flexibility when there isn't so much fat tucked around every one of my joints and limbs.
I'm simply not comfortable flexing when it's already laborious to move my limbs around within their limits. Don't worry man, I'll get into that stuff ;)
You NEED to stretch, otherwise you'll get injured, preventing you from training. Also, being inflexible severely limits the range of exercise/sports available to you. If you don't have proper depth on your squat, you don't get the full benefit of the exercise. If you squat too much weight while your hams are tight, you're gonna strain or tear them, simple as that. It's annoying because stretching hurts, takes a lot of time, and the effects can be hard to see, but still...you have to do it.
I'll give you three days before you give up.

Whoa whoa dude, I was only interested in information, I'm not against you here. I just wanna know why. You can't come into a thread and say everything said so far is wrong and just jam out. Thanks for explaining.
Oh shit, you may not think I'm that great anymore. Forgot to mention I don't do free weight squats. I'm not flexible enough to hold the bar behind my neck, so I had to use the machine where you're sitting down facing upwards and pushing a panel with all the weight on it up and away from your body.
You seem very angry.
I meant raban.. I thought he would be more you know, more jolly. Due to all the good advice. You seem very angry.
I have a lot of real-life frustration right now that I feel like taking out on teh internets via vulgar language. meh.

I do, I'm just never going to warm up to it.

Just the fitness room at my apartment complex. I do try to jog on KL ave from Drake to campus every other day. If I were employed, I would probably be a member of a gym, but as of right now I can't afford it.http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml)

It's not for much longer. Soon as I lose weight, there won't be a legitimate reason for me to be inside a house for more than an hour ever again, and only in boredom do I visit EB nowadays.

You're gonna sleep on the streets?
You're not able to find a job anywhere? Man...stop scaring me dude. You have your CPA and masters, right?
Yeah, I get sick from squats every once in a while. Plus I sometimes "white-out" / headrush after squats or deadlifts, which is just a joy to experience :-\
HEY GUYS IM GONNA BE SO COOL WHEN I LOSE SOME WEIGHT ILL NEVER USE THE INTERNET ANYMORE ILL JUST BE OUTSIDE AND CHILLIN WITH MY BROS AND GET LAID AND HAVE FUN BECAUSE IM NOT GONNA BE A FAT PIG ANYMORE BUT IN THE MEANTIME HELP ME THE FUCK OUT WITH EVERYTHING I NEED UNTIL I LEAVE THIS SHITHOLE FOREVER BECAUSE IT SUCKS
