Because Sony sucks. You should see the Japan store!

I was on it earlier today. Don't remind me about the tons of PS1 games on there...

there are levels to complete just like any other platformer.  point A to point B with obstacles ala 2d mario.  they demonstrated a boss battle for gamespot.  it was fucking tight.

only difference between this and other platformers is that all the levels in the game are created with the in-game level editor and you can create/share your own levels.  and that's a huge difference.

game is just fuck awesome in every way.

Well as long as there's a solo mode I can play. I'm not interested in create-a-level and multiplayer stuff.

It's Gary's Mod except only in 2D.  Sony fans pretend to get excited over it similar to Home.  it's probably not going to be very good, actually, aside from cute design.  People on the PC had this better in 2004.  Sony delivers shit once again.

there are disadvantages and advantages when you compare it to gmod.  gmod was fun and all, but i'm currently more excited about LBP because it looks very easy to make some badass levels i'll be playing with friends.  and i'm someone who has played gmod since the beginning, bought the full version of gmod, and even made a mod inside gmod using it's Lua scripting integration that had different playable classes, jetpacks (i miss tribes), wall climbing (because it's cool), self healing item (similar to bad company's new syringe thing, except i did it myself back in 2005 because health packs and recharging health are both flawed systems for multiplayer games), and full stealth with counter-stealth abilities for another class (because that half-invisible translucency shit in most games is stupid).

so don't try to pull that stupid "sony fans blah blah" shit, you silly troll.  LBP looks fucking sweet and, if anything, my substantial experience with gmod has only made me more hyped for LBP.

Set me down as a LBP fanboy.

I can't wait to get ahold of this.  Without playing the game, I have to say this is the most refreshing console game I have seen since I first seen Mario 64.  The combination of realtime editing within a platform game combined with all the sharing you can do might make LBP change platforming games forever.

play them
And share them.
HOW

Creator of the level decides.

There is also going to be an area where top user created levels are ranked based off feedback of people who downloaded and played the level. If you share a level you created, you can see how many people tried it and read their feedback. I'm very excited for this and there should be some epic user created stuff.

someone let the idiots in GAF know that 1up's interpretation of "120 switches" is wrong.

the boss isn't "flip 120 switches and it's dead" -- evans was describing it's complexity with the number of switches.  switches can be used to have the object interact with itself, it's surroundings, and the player.  he elaborated on the boss -- he said it was a multi-stage boss that transforms.  a lot (i would assume a vast majority) of those switches are probably activated by the boss itself to accomplish more complex movements and actions.

just quote me.

I really find it hard to believe that some of you don't get what LittleBigPlanet is about. That's like admitting you're distinguished mentally-challenged. This game is simple.

You play single-player levels. When you're done, the replay value comes from being able to create your own levels by using the same tools that the game's developers did. Then, for your own self-gratification and to prove to the world that your achievement-hoarding ass also has the biggest e-penis stuck up it, you can share it with the rest of the world to rate and bitch about it on NeoGAF when nobody understands your genius and calls you a piece of shit. Oh, and by the way, those single-player levels can also be played with multiple players locally or online without needing the screen to be split, just like Contra 3.

Did I dumb that down enough for you Xfags?

Anyway, I have a friend who believes this game will never come out. I think that's just wishful thinking on his part because he knows LBP will completely demolish the competition from Nintendo and Microsoft, which is sad for him because he's one of those Wii60 fegs.

Isn't the next Banjo & Kazooie just a subtle reaction to LBP, whereas the avatars are a not-so-subtle reaction to Miis? I can't believe that Rare has been reduced to Reactionary.

Except everyone was uber hyped for the game before it even had those single player levels.

I'm not going to be into the level building at all so I doubt I'll be getting it anytime soon.

And do you really think Banjo was designed in the last year and a half? If Banjo had only started development after LBP got unveiled it would be coming out in 2011.

i'm pretty sure MM has acknowledged the included levels since the first time they've shown it.  the level creation aspect was demoed first because they unveiled it at GDC and the level creation is the primary feature of the game.

and it doesn't really matter if you won't be building your own levels -- everyone will benefit from having thousands of user created levels available in the LBP online community.

And do you really think Banjo was designed in the last year and a half? If Banjo had only started development after LBP got unveiled it would be coming out in 2011.
it's not unreasonable to think LBP could have pushed Rare to pursue a new direction with the game.  it's not like game designs don't go through iterations.  all the footage of banjo we've seen is using your vehicle to traverse empty environments and solve a few simple puzzles--it's not like they have a fully fleshed out game at this point that would make it evident they've been going for this design for several years.  in fact, their original teaser trailer is absolutely devoid of any hints at their current design.
Title: Re: FUCKING LITTLE BIG PLANET
Post by: AdmiralViscen on July 22, 2008, 12:15:11 PM
Originally the game was gonna be PSN only, then they were going to release a retail disc with the best of the user submitted maps.

And we're talking about Rare, they are incapable of designing a game in a short amount of time. There's no way they revamped a game in 2007 and have it out by 2008. And people have been predicting some kind of building aspect for Banjo for a loooooong time, using hints in that trailer and other tidbits from Rare's site.

I don't know hwo you can say the game isn't fleshed out when it's going gold in like 2 months.

I'm still not really seeing how equipping a character with shit in a predefined world is the same as walking a custom character through custom worlds downloaded like youtube videos. Just as an aside.

Originally the game was gonna be PSN only, then they were going to release a retail disc with the best of the user submitted maps.
they still talked about levels they'd provide on day one.  the game was NEVER publicly planned to release as little more than level editing software.  starting on PSN and including user created levels in a retail release doesn't really change that.  level sharing was also a key feature they talked about on day one.

I'm still not really seeing how equipping a character with shit in a predefined world is the same as walking a custom character through custom worlds downloaded like youtube videos. Just as an aside.

That was one part of my post dude, if they also happened to mention some single player in a presentation you admit was totally user-creation focused then I guess my memory faded at some point during the year of delays.

I do remember there being a big hubbub a few months ago when it was announced that the game would ship with 100 single player levels, so I think the reality of it is somewhere between what I remember and what you remember. But none of that really has anything to do with what I was trying to say to that moron who was ranting about xfags in a thread that's pretty positive about this game.

user created focus doesn't mean they have no mention of included levels.  the first interviews had statements like "our levels are inspiration for your creations" etc.

LittleBigPlanet can be released as a PSN title or Blu-Ray title. It's multi-talented. Multi-faceted.

That's called being the shit.

Not my problem if you couldn't see that a year and a half ago.

The delays are helping this game to make an even bigger hill for the competition to climb to match in features. This game is the reason why it is the year of the PS3.

MGS4 is the only PS3 game that has demonstrated 'mass universal buzz.' GT5P, Ratchet, Uncharted, these were supposed to explode across the mainstream and they all got 200k or less in their opening months in the US.

Forums /= reality

It is certainly funny though to see Sony duderinos acting like Fable 2 is nothing and preemptively hyping LBP's sales numbers. LBP can certainly be a financial success but I feel the odds are stacked against it.

Just as an aside

i'm not just talking about forums.  look at any game media outlet.  LBP has won many 'best of show' awards for this e3.  and considering they didn't even push it that hard this e3 and the fact that it's a previously shown game going up against the first gameplay footage of high profile games like fallout and RE5, that's impressive.  e3 isn't the only time the game recieves lots of buzz, either--the game is getting a huge amount of attention universally.

The PS3 demographic just made MGS4 a worldwide million seller.

Do you really think we need the benefit of "SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT" and a gentle learning curve?

We few, we happy few, are going to make sure that LittleBigPlanet becomes a worldwide million seller too.

See you when the software NPDs hit in November.

By the way, Ratchet and Uncharted didn't blow up but those games are examples of titles that aren't front-loaded, and are instead going to have legs for some time, especially when they become Greatest Hits (and in the case of Ratchet, when Quest for Booty welcomes the dawn of a new era, the age of digital distribution).

Also, GT5P sold extremely well for half a game. The NPD numbers just don't account for the PSN sales.

We few, we happy few, are going to make sure that LittleBigPlanet becomes a worldwide million seller too.

See you when the software NPDs hit in November.

you're my new favorite joke poster

MGS4 is the only PS3 game that has demonstrated 'mass universal buzz'

Forums /= reality
i'm not just talking about forums.  look at any game media outlet.

Like Uncharted and GT5P?

no, not like uncharted and GT5P at all.  other than a few exceptions, those games were largely overlooked; and in the case of GT5P, it was often blasted by the media.  uncharted only recieved the praise it got after all the reviews were in and done with.  i don't think either of those examples won many e3 'best-of' awards.

you seem to be the one confusing forums with reality

MGS4 has sold way more than a million by now, you literalist, and that's without universal appeal.

It's also pretty routine for the sales of 360 games to be front-loaded.

Winners sit pretty at the top of the charts and losers talk about having legs.

It is well proven that winning awards at industry expos leads to explosive sales

We'll see!

And it's still funny to see Sony dudes throwing all these 2007 games under the bus now, when last year they were supposed to propel PS3 beyond 360 with its front-loaded Halo and 'nothing else.' And now even Gran Turismo has low sales expectations! :lol

I was playing dfyb's role in GT5P predictions not so long ago, just like I am with LBP now.

MGS4 will sit pretty at the top and have legs. Being bundled with the 80GB will do wonders.

We got Motorstorm and MGS4.

What did the Wii get? Wii Sports?

 :lol

Uh, Wii is the definition of few chart toppers and long legs.

i predicted uncharted would review low and sell alright.  it's an awesome game, but i never expected blowout sales.  it never got that sort of attention.  my prediction was pretty spot on.

similarly, you could never find me arguing that GT5P would be some sort of mega-seller.  it's a fucking prologue for crying out loud.  preview buzz would be impressed by the graphics, but that was usually the scope of GT5P's 'buzz.'  it only appeals to the more hardcore GT5 fans.

but please, continue with these baseless claims and trolls.

So you knew PS3's 2007 lineup was underwhelming and that it would fail to light a fire under consumer's asses? This is the sentiment you would endlessly express on message boards last year? Really?

You're dfyb, you have a highly visible track record iirc

if you can find posts where i claim uncharted or GT5P would definitely be million sellers, you can comment on my track record.  because right now you're just making shit up in typical troll fashion.

and for the record, uncharted + GT5P =/= PS3's 2007 lineup.

I said sentiment. Everyone knows you were a major Sony apologist on GAF, and you still are here so I don't need to look up posts to prove it. There is no way you were sandbagging Sony's 2007 lineup last year.

And there was a bigger game than Uncharted released last year on PS3? Ratchet, HS, and Lair all did just as poorly, so I guess MotorStorm was the only feather in your cap?

since these discussions took place before 2007 was over, it is reasonable to think that if i was referring to PS3's 2007 lineup, i was referring to all games that were listed as having a 2007 release (including some games that were pushed back to 2008 and beyond).  but of course, you aren't being reasonable.

To be fair, he's not exactly the only one with a highly visible track record when it comes to (some times seemingly blind) bias and history of making less than reasonable observations.

MotorStorm sucked.

I don't know why Sony bundled that piece of shit (still better than Wii Sports though).

They should have bundled Uncharted.

PS3 has been plagued by Sony's bad decisions.

They got lucky somebody gave LittleBigPlanet the green light.

LittleBigPlanet won't even need to be bundled. This game will sell itself.

Motorstorm is awesome.  This isn't the place or time to be talking about that, but I will say that the only hate you can give it is that it didn't have enough content and those fucking load times were unbearable.  The actual gameplay was fantastic.

Yup, which is why MS2 is the real reason to turn on your PS3 this fall.

I fucking loved the shit out of the demo, but I only played the final version for less than a week. The load times and vehicle selection loading killed it for me. Good engine in a shit package.

What the fuck.

Motorstorm... a good game? I done heard it all now.

Are you guys reverse trolling me? I just want to be sure.

By the way, I just typed this all out with the DualShock 3 on my PS3. Can you do that on the 360 yet?

I'm letting my little sister use the PC to play games. She's such a casual.

I can't wait for her to be jealous of LittleBigPlanet.

Some people buy consoles to play games.

Others buy them to make their PC gaming prepubescent sisters jealous so that they can trade sessions of LBP for illicit blowjobs.
