Oh, I think it's total bullshit on Pitchfork's part. They'd been pushing Black Kids really hard, and now that it's in the "cool new artists" section at Target, they feel the need to rethink their position.
I didn't have a problem with their infamous Jet review, but this is pathetic.
Apparently I don't read entire posts. So Black Kids sound a lot like The Cure? And Pitchfork dropped their album's score from an 8 to a 0 because they got popular?
Sounds a lot like Pitchfork. The same guys who didn't include Black Holes and Revelations in the top 50 (50!!!) albums of 2006.
Oh, and could someone summarize or link to the "infamous Jet review?"

Black Kids released an EP some time ago, which featured songs that all appear on the album. It got an 8.something. Shortly after they signed. Their new, full album has charted well in the UK and their singles are getting decent airplay in the US, too. Pitchfork then issues a 0.0 revieww for the full album, which they change to a 3.3.
I've been avoiding these guys because I feel like I already have too many bands in my library whose name begins with the word "Black". Completely legitimate reason.

Have you heard the latest Cure song? Fucking dreadful.
I wish the Cure sounded like the Black Kids. It's a bit peppier and light-hearted instead of morose and plodding.

That doesn't explain it at all. Even if it is an example of the "two different reviewers" thing, I'd expect the second reviewer to at least try to explain his score when the band was previously hyped by that very website. I know Pitchfork is Pitchfork, but it's not 4chan.
Pitchfork is (obviously) a very important music news website, to the degree that a lot of people probably don't even bother reading anything else. They see this album get a 3.3 or a 0, and they will skip the album entirely.

I only listen to their positive reviews, I don't think much of their negative reviews.
Black Kids album is cool, but more important than that, this thread has made me put Bloodflowers in my mp3 queue. Should start in 5 minutes! :hyper :( :rock :'(
This is basically a death sentence.
Just reading the article and Wikipedia, it sounds like they are beyond the point where Pitchfork can do anything to hurt or help them. Already signed to a big label....MTV appearances.....charting well in the UK.....will this really tank sales of the album? Particularly when it's seen as some kind of hurtful prank?
Rollingstone has done that a lot over the years too, with stuff like Nevermind (Nirvana) and more classic rock stuff from the 60s/70s. smh
we should review our own albums. i trust eb more than those posers
just think, not too long ago "southern rap" meant Outkast, Geto Boys, Goodie Mob, Scarface, etc. Now "southern rap" is synonymous with "shit"

i'd include wayne in the crap category, although i can't front: i don't like the carter 3, but it's not horrible. it has some horrible horrible songs (Dr. Carter, Get Money, A Milli, Lolipop) but there's some interesting stuff there too. and he manages to smack down Jay-Z on Mr. Carter.
Yeah, pitchfork is pretty shitty. They originally gave In the Aeroplane Over the Sea like a 8 something, but after it became this huge indie phenomenon they retconned for a re-release and gave it a perfect 10, which is pretty funny. "When this album first came out, we thought it was suitably indie. Now, it's THE indie album so we have to give it a perfect 10, lolz." Bunch of wankers.

Rolling Stone did basically the same thing except they were even more negative about the album originally.
I need review sites because I don't have the time to devote to listening to lots of shit to find the bits of goodness anymore. Also, that remix isn't very impressive. Making the song completely unorganic completely removes the energy of it.

Not sure how new it is, but they play it on Alt Nation (Sirius) all the time.

He has that old woman/Hillary supporter look to him, so I'd guess it's new. Man, I'd kill for his hair. I bet it's just a wig at this point. And could your eally pull off his hair without being a rock star?
I like Muse ok. I can only listen to them in short stretches throughout a couple of years, but they're not awful. HAARP was quite awesome. But Blackholes and Revelations was fucking awful save for a few tracks. If Absolution never existed I wouldn't even bother.
I respectfully disagree. I thought Black Holes was easily a top 5 album of 2006. There aren't many duds on it at all, if any. IMO:

That Islands album was terrible
