Title: I just went for a 30 Minute jog
Post by: BlueTsunami on July 31, 2008, 06:43:17 AM
Why must it be so hard? I wish I could grind it  :'(

That's good to hear. I usually stall out (meaning, I'll jog for two weeks, every other day then stop). I'm going to try and keep up with it.

Fortunately I live near a park. I used to drive out to a track to jog.

3) When on your runs, make sure you finish your goal. Take a break if you have to, but finish the total distance. If your goal is to run 2 miles, but your legs start getting really sore around the 1.5 mark, then take a break, but make sure you run that last half mile when you're good to go. Otherwise you'll start cheating yourself when the pain kicks in.
I think this is the most important thing. Always keep your knees up. Even if you're "running" along at 4 miles per hour, don't let yourself fall into a walk.

I don't think I've jogged since I used to box years ago. Now I just drag my dead lifeless legs everywhere like a Romero zombie. I REALLY need to start using the stationary bike again.

Get an Mp3 player/ipod. Listen to a podcast, an audiobook or uptempo music so you don't focus as much on the 'pain'.

Oh, and you won't have to worry about this just yet, but keep in mind: at short distances, it's all about lungs, lungs, lungs (and heart). But after you've built up some endurance and you're doing greater distances, it'll start to be all about your legs. Be ready for this. Your recovery periods will be much faster if you stretch properly and invest in a decent pair of running shoes.
I need to start doing this. Cause my lungs can easily handle running every day (which I do), but my legs determine whether I run fast or not that day. I need to make a conscious effort to stretch, which I never do. It's been a while since my legs were able to outperform my lungs.

Going for walks sounds pretty homo, but I like it too. That doesn't necessarily make it no homo, though...

walks are better for you if you're like himu and me because jogging + overweight = dead joints

it's a great starting place

Walks are great.  You get to see all the birds and life going on around you, look at the fabulous attire in shop windows, and check out all the cute guys as they walk by.

When I was fat I went on bike rides to lose weight and build up my stamina, good for joints and you can go much deeper...unless you walk uphill on a mountain.

I rode a bike a lot last year when I kind of needed to. Gave my butthole some stingin' rash.

I've been cycling and jogging a few times a week lately to try to slim down. I've built my stamina enough that it's usually good to carry me for 30 minutes or so, but I tend to feel a lot more drained more quickly when I'm jogging.  I want to start some interval training once I get more comfortable where I'm at.

I always feel the lactic acid a lot sooner when I run/cycle in the morning.

The only difficult part about running for 30 minutes is the painful and boring stretching I have to do before hand.

I only stretch my Hamstrings, Quads and Calves. One thing I've noticed is that I can jog these distances and not tire out my legs (my shins would do this a lot). Not sure if its a result of me working out or not.

What tires out now is my lungs. 20 Minutes of straight jogging and I'm about ready to suffocate.

My ass gets sore from riding a bike.  If I want to start riding, I have to do like a 20 minute ride, and then rest my ass for a week.  After that, it's golden.
