I'm going to be having C-sections. I'll need to look up to make sure this doesn't happen to me. ECRO TAKE NOTE: If I see someone's hands in my abdomen I will freak out. No mirrored surfaces in the OR/delivery room for me omg!

Ecro's father has osteogenesis imperfecto, aka brittle bone disease (think Mr. Glass in Unbreakable). It's genetic, so our kids could have it too, so a C-section is a necessary precaution. Neither he nor his sister have the disease, but they were both C-section babies because you just don't know. If you try to deliver naturally and your baby has the disease, its bones would probably break during labor and delivery. Just so you know I'm not like "oh I'm gonna have a C-section so I don't stretch my vag lol", it's a medical necessity.
I imagine they can test for it in utero now, with an amniocentesis, but that carries the risk of a miscarriage so I don't want to have one.

No apology necessary. Lots of women are doing elective C-sections now because it's supposed to be easier or whatever (Britney Spears comes to mind) and it's not always the best thing. C-sections have their own risks, for the mother and the baby. And the recovery for the mother is much worse when you have a C-section, so with so many people electing to have them it kind of blows my mind.
My mom actually thinks we should have James tested to see if he's even a carrier, and then if he is, to have the babies tested in utero to avoid C-sections if they don't have brittle bones. I think that's a lot of unnecessary testing though, and a lot of wasted money. She means well--I was an emergency C-section baby and she said her recovery was brutal--but still!

My wife was floored after the C-section. She literally couldn't even gather the strength to look at the baby hours later. I had to film it and show her the handicam even though the baby was no more than a foot away from her. And she lost a scary amount of blood, which caused her to shake uncontrollably from the cold. They drugged her to the eyeballs but it was still a brutal experience. Maybe if you plan it all ahead of time it's easier (and have high post doctors like Britney). I wouldn't have a c-section unless there was no other option. She went through an entire week of induced labor before the doc finally said we have to do it because of the rising risk of infection. Close to a worst-case scenario, in other words - all the pain of extended labor, over multiple days, then you end up doing a c-section anyway. oh well, it's all ancient history now. She's finally started talking about another one, even!

Well she can deliver naturally now if she wants to/her doctors think it's a good idea. One C-section doesn't mean have to continue to have C-sections anymore, which is good news.
That's must have been terrifying to go through. Hopefully if you guys decide to have another, labor and delivery will be a cakewalk. :)
My friend had two little girls recently, one in April of last year and the latest this September. She pushed for 20 minutes for the first one, and the second one was out in two pushes. Two! She's a small woman, like if she weighed more than 120 pounds I'd be shocked, and both babies were average size 7 pounds or so. Wouldn't it be great if it was always that easy?

I heard that about 1/3 of women get c-sections. That's mostly because doctors don't want to take any risks and/or that the drugs make natural childbirth more difficult by changing how the contractions happen or something.

When my baby brother was born, the nurse actually told my mother about a baby pissing into it's mouth while crying while in the middle of a diaper change. I have never let my baby brother accomplish this.

According to "What to Expect When You're Expecting", the incidence of c-sections rises big time on Friday evenings. Yes, those lazy fuck doctors will slice you up so they can hit the links faster. I'm deadly serious.
