Mother 3 - You know the game sucks when its greatest strength is that it was not released everywhere worldwide. The game just sucks. The greatest strength, its story, was probably its weakest point. It tried to be mature but it was Nintendo mature aka suitable for 12 year olds as opposed to the typical 10 year old audience. You had to slog through three prequel chapters that were uninteresting before getting into the game! Then the game proceeds to beat you over the head with generic gameplay and a battle system that claims to be different but really isn't and has been done before...but better. Then you reach the ending with its plot twist but by that point, you hate the game so much that you just want it to be over. Basically took 21 hours out of my life I'll never get back.
Jesus Christ, some of you (Swaggaz) play a lot of games.
I've only gotten Gears of War 2 and Fallout 3, and so far both are pretty awesome.
Mother 3 - A+no its not perfect, but I dont agree at all with what was said by t exp there
"best review ever - Viz"
what i've been playing this fall:
mega man 9 :hyper
mega man 1 :)
mega man 2 :hyper
mega man 3 :hyper
mega man 4 :yuck :yuck :yuck
mega man 5 :D
mega man 6 :)
mega man 7 :-\
mega man & bass :D
mega man zero :D
Great reviews, I was kinda 'meh' on 6 and haven't played Zero yet... but I will have to agree exactly with your assessments on the other games in the series.after 4, both 5 and 6 felt like such an amazing improvement - the high from switching to the more than competent 5 after the abysmal 4 probably kept me going through 6 with most of the excitement still present.
mega man 4 has got to be the worst mega man out there, period. this is why:
- awful robot masters with horrible weapons and attack patterns, some of them lacking any sort of real weapon or special attack
- toad man: what a piece of shit boss... jumps around while it rains, that's it
- skull man: shoots regular buster shots. that's his weapon... uh what?
- bright man: undodgeable attack, impossible to beat without taking damage
- SEVERAL bosses/enemies have undodgeable attacks BY DESIGN
- terrible level design with lots of useless, random gimmicks and lame traps even for mega man standards
- dr. cossack
- dr. cossack's weak ass bosses
- abysmal ABYSMAL music
- most slowdown and glitches in any mega man game ever
- super slow scrolling
- tons of sound glitches
- fucking HORRIBLE MUSIC AAAGH MY EARS
- newly introduced enemies are mostly frustrating, out of place and forgettable
- alternate paths in levels are ENTIRELY forgettable, misleading and useless
- JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THE MUSIC MAKE IT STOP
and mm7 just didn't feel like classic mega man. shit sound effects and music lacking any sort of punch. generally "softened" 16 bit aesthetic that just didn't feel right for classic mega man. controls didn't feel right. the buster felt like a frickin' toy with no real power. superfluous story bullshit. mostly lame bosses with a few exceptions. all in all it was okay, still a ton better than mm4. but a far cry from all the good nes mega man games.
people usually talk about a steady decline in quality. that really isn't the case though. mm4 is the black sheep. mm5 is still great and mm6 is competent too.

I really didn't think Dead Space was all that great.
Alot of people seem to love Mirror's Edge on here. I have heard mixed reports, so please tell me what is great about this game? I have yet to play it.

Good:
-setting/style of the world
-music
-platforming puzzles
-concept
Bad:
-combat

I wonder if combat would be better on an easier mode. Difficulty changes probably only effect the enemies in the game, so being able to take out an enemy in only one hit would probably make it much better. The reason the combat sucks is that you have to stop before you can take them out. You should be able to kick them in the face and continue to run knowing the guy is knocked out.
I think they could've improved combat by adding a way to take out 2 opponents at once (crowd control attack), like a roundhouse or something... since if you're confronted by 2 enemies at a time, you're pretty much fucked. Also I know they wanted to be more realistic, but giving you more health would've alleviated a bit of problems too. I'm playing on Normal, possibly it's more fun on Easy?

I played on normal also, but I'll see next time I play. The weird thing is that normally I go from Normal -> Hard when playing games, but for both Resistance 2 and Mirror's Edge I want to go from Normal to Easy. It's not that the games are difficult in anyway, it's more that they just get frustrating because death is beyond your control.
Braid (XBLA) - Wish I could play this game but I refuse to support Jonathan Blow.

Eh?
Kestatrophy - there is a demo on both consoles... play it
The game wasn't that Braid was pretentious, it was that Blow's remarks after the release showed how much of a douchbag he was. Shit like saying no one got the purpose of the game when it was a disjointed art school drop out mess that people had to salvage to make decent. He really is the biggest douchebag in the industry.

Fall games I bought, loved and fully recommend:
Far Cry 2 -- Simply the greatest single-player FPS of this gen. If you don't agree, you're an impatient fool that didn't give it enough time. The more you play, the better it gets. It's an absolute masterpiece in every sense of the word.

stripped of the automations that once seemed necessary in such games
Kestatrophy - there is a demo on both consoles... play it
the demo is highly misleading. mirror's edge is just terribly uneven. when it's good (like in the demo), it's OMG SO AWESOME, but unfortunately the game consists of mostly low points.
slowing the player down in game thats main strength is momentum and fluidity was a poor choice on dices part. oh and let us not forget the shit combat and the fact that you're forced into combat situations. if you must play it - rent it. at most it'll take you 6 hours to complete.
hopefully they get it right in the sequel (if there is one) because the main concept behind the game is solid.
it definitely shouldn't be anyones game of the year in a year with so many good games.
regret
Megaman 9
