Disgraced former American football star O.J. Simpson was sentenced Friday to at least 15 years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping during a 2007 raid on a Las Vegas hotel room.

Update!
Simpson could serve up to 33 years but could be eligible for parole after nine years, according to Elana Roberto, the judge's clerk.

I think this was more of a ruling for the first item, they could never say that because that ruling would be illegal
-
They've updated to "up to 33 years". :lol

Yeah, I was thinking that also. weak sauce. He got whipped. :o

Like I said in the other thread, this whole case was bullshit. The prosecution targeted him much more aggressively than they would target a regular person who was involved in the same kind of situation. Four of the men who were with him in that hotel room were given plea-bargains specifically to get them to testify against Simpson.
The murder trial should have no relevance here, but I guess that's not the way the American justice system works.
The murder trail was proof that the American justice system didn't work.

Again, completely irrelevant. He was acquitted in a court of law.
Glad to know that if you or I are ever falsely accused of a major crime and acquitted in court, we can expect law enforcement and prosecutors to go to full power-up mode against us if we ever slip up.
This is one of the sad facts of our justice system. If you ever kill several people and get involved in the trial of the century and get off despite being totally guilty, then bust into someone's hotel run with a loaded gun and try to steal some stuff that may or may not have actually belonged to you in the first place, the prosecution may not go easy onyou. This has long been known as one of the great failings of the U.S. Justice System. I think Thomas Jefferson wrote a treatise on the unfair treatment of acquitted murders who steal back their sports memorabilia.

The man was acquitted in a court of law. Should a jury's verdict, or public opinion be the measure that the justice system uses against an American citizen?
He was guilty as hell and got off by an LA jury bombarded with the race card and basically told that if they convict him LA would suffer Rodney King 2.0 riots.
-
Prosecutors go after some cases more aggressively than others! What a shock. I had no idea that this sort of thing ever happened.
To be honest I don't see how this is anymore unfair than him being able to hire the world's most powerful and expensive attorneys to get him off the murder rap. Did it occur to you that aggressive prosecution might have been a direct result of the original fiasco and the sort of fight he put up there? He wasn't treated like an average criminal, because an average criminal doesn't have the kinds of legal resources that Simpson does.

Al Capone was jailed not cause he was a ruthless gangster, but rather for tax evasion.
