Title: What are you guys playing this weekend?
Post by: Rman on February 06, 2009, 09:02:09 PM
I rebooted Tales of Vesperia to start grade farming and finishing the side quests.  I'm also playing on completing some events in MotorStorm 2.  And, finally, I'm going to put some time on the KZ2, The Show 09, RE5 demos

Prinny: can I really be the Hero

Will start on something new this weekend probably.  Maybe Inazuma Eleven for the Mitsuda soundtrack.

I'll probably play some of the Alan Wake beta on Sunday.

 ???

Why would a single player adventure game have a beta....

Naw... I need to beat Afro Samurai on Hard mode and 1000 that. I'm transcribing a new Nick interview for the site, and working on some other stuff I had wasting for too long.

Vesperia- 48 hours in and got my flyie monster ship thingie.

Final Fantasy IV DS- Only at the very beginning but the cutscenes are better than I expected.

Final Fight 3- My brainless beat-em up for the weekend.

R-Type Dimensions- Trying to one credit as far as possible. At the moment I can only get midway through stage 3 in one life.

Bangai-O Spirits- Just picked it up. Will play soonish.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD- Can't... put... it... down...

R-Type Dimensions demo.  I'm too much of a cheap fuck these days to justify the buying price so I'll mess around with it a while before making a decision.

Maybe play a few rounds of Ridge Racer 6.  Too unmotivated to complete Blue Dragon these days so I might just trade it in.  Same goes for Sonic Unleashed.  Maybe I can get a few bucks of credit towards something else.

I'll probably go ahead and try to beat Banjo Nuts & Bolts this weekend.  I'm about 60 Jiggies in and I just got the laser.  I think I need 75 Jiggies minimum to unlock the last area?  But whatever.  I really like it despite its flaws.

Might try playing some more Forza 2 and get past whatever block I have with that game.  Everything is so tedious, ugh.

And I'll probably try to beat some more events in Burnout now that the restart option (with no loading necessary!) is back.

and as far as I can tell I can just go to the store and scratch off the backs of XBLA cards and copy the number to get them for free.  is there any actually downside to this besides being called names by people on the internet?

It's a great game, just make sure to use the control scheme with jump mapped to a button and not waggle!

I never finished it myself...want to play it but the superior PSP version is next week.

yeah, I'm using the standard one which has jump on C, 180 spin on nunchuck waggle, and the quick hide move on the remote waggle.

I did see a video of the PSP game and the visuals do seem really downgraded.  The Wii game actually looks pretty nice for a last gen game, but it's no big deal.

Yeah, the visuals will be worse, but the fighting system should be much easier.

Although the U.S. Wii version was supposed to have had the fighting system made easier anyway.  I just shudder to think of those awful British voices.   :yuck

Gonna beat Lost Odyssey and BioShock, then trade in those and some other crap for Last Remnant and maybe Tales of Vesperia if I feel like spending that much money.  GS emailed me their weekly deals and there's a coupon that gives you an extra 25% trade in value on used 360 games.  Woot woot.

I believe they have to be activated by the store first through a POS terminal in order to make that card valid.

I thought that was only for Sony's cards.

I guess when its scanned while in purchase it unlocks the card automatically.

Tenchu 4 is awesome.  I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if it had better controls (PSP version :hyper), but as is it's pretty great.  The real bad parts come from the combat controls (waggle nonsense) and the waggle kill moves not registering.  They obviously don't want you to get into combat, and there is no actual reason to in the North American version in the game, but you are still forced to do much simpler versions of it for the boss fights.  Like, apparently in the Japanese version you can only get caught once; here you can get caught as many times as you want, and there is no reason to fight because even if you fight and win, it still counts as being spotted and ruins your score at the end.  I'm a bit pissed this game bombed since I'd love a version on the 360/PS3 with proper controls.

SO no more fucking perks for me and no fucking boosts to my characters stats WTF gives did they not think people would play this game all the way through?

A friend of mine came over, and while our wives watched some episodes of London Hearts, we were fightin' gamin'.  Lots of HD Remix, which he hadn't played before, so he got beat badly since he's so used to Super Turbo, and some Fate/Unlimited Codes, which really is a fun little game.  Plus a bit of Battle Fantasia.

Ugh...that takes the challenge right out, although I suppose if you want to get a good ranking you'd still never want to be caught more than once anyway.

In the Japanese version, you get two chances at being caught.  The first time, you lose part of your clothes, and the second time, you're dead and have to restart that section of the level, unless you have a sword which shifts you into combat mode.

I am looking forward to seeing how the PSP version handles things; it may be downgraded visually but something tells me it's probably going to play a hell of a lot better sans waggle.

Acquire DID say they are bringing WoTS3 to Xbox 360 only because of fan demand; maybe the same will happen with Tenchu and 4 or its sequel(s) will get PS3/360 releases on top of the Wii version.

Regardless I think people should play it.  It's the best in the series IMO.  Completely different approach to these games than any of the previous Tenchu or Shinobido games, but for the better.

Or a smoke bomb.  I don't really mind that they made the change because for me even one guard catching me means I want to start it over.  I take the levels slow, but I'm careful not to ever get caught and to kill every enemy.

Yeah, that sucks.  I just reached level 20 myself after getting back into the game following a long layoff and I still have a lot of content left to do.  Thankfully, the March DLC will raise the level cap.

Aside from Fallout 3, I got all 131 fucking jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie and I'm still slowly powering my way through various careers on Guitar Hero World Tour.  God, there's so many shitty songs in that game.

I like Steve Miller and can tolerate the other songs, so I'd say that's one of the better gigs.  The absolute worse ones are towards the end where you have entire tiers full of crappy songs that you've never even heard of.  Tesla's Coil is the absolute worst.

Are you using mods? If so, which ones are good?

I got the game when it was $5 on steam last year but I have only played a small bit of it. I tried watching the Tarkovsky movie yesterday and I could only make it an hour in, it was the slowest movie I've ever seen.

Q4B was only really interesting because they were doing some different things, even if they were very conservative about it.  ToD was way better; best Ratchet since Going Commando.  Don't have much faith in the 2009 Ratchet game after R2.

I thought QfB sucked.  Sure it has more platforming but there is still ZERO skill required for any of it.  I don't need Maximo difficulty platforming, but if there's no challenge then there's not much fun.   :'(

That's because it's awesome.

Me & friend finally got around to playing it last week and true story we get to the final stage and
spoiler (click to show/hide)
we get the homing rocket launchers and get on the elevator to go fight Hitler after that looong stage and on the elevator my friend shoots a rocket which hits the elevator wall and kills us both instantly GAME OVER.  Yeah.....he was banned from using the rocket until the boss shows up after that.

That's the worst part about Japanese RPGs.  They NEVER give you any context to what you're doing so if you take a break you have no clue what to do next.  In contrast, I picked up Fallout 3 after not playing for a month and knew exactly what I was doing within seconds.

:bow Western RPGs :bow2
