A friend of mine came over, and while our wives watched some episodes of
London Hearts, we were fightin' gamin'. Lots of HD Remix, which he hadn't played before, so he got beat badly since he's so used to Super Turbo, and some Fate/Unlimited Codes, which really is a fun little game. Plus a bit of Battle Fantasia.
Tenchu 4 is awesome. I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if it had better controls (PSP version
), but as is it's pretty great. The real bad parts come from the combat controls (waggle nonsense) and the waggle kill moves not registering. They obviously don't want you to get into combat, and there is no actual reason to in the North American version in the game, but you are still forced to do much simpler versions of it for the boss fights. Like, apparently in the Japanese version you can only get caught once; here you can get caught as many times as you want, and there is no reason to fight because even if you fight and win, it still counts as being spotted and ruins your score at the end. I'm a bit pissed this game bombed since I'd love a version on the 360/PS3 with proper controls.
Ugh...that takes the challenge right out, although I suppose if you want to get a good ranking you'd still never want to be caught more than once anyway.
In the Japanese version, you get two chances at being caught. The first time, you lose part of your clothes, and the second time, you're dead and have to restart that section of the level, unless you have a sword which shifts you into combat mode.
I am looking forward to seeing how the PSP version handles things; it may be downgraded visually but something tells me it's probably going to play a hell of a lot better sans waggle.
Acquire DID say they are bringing WoTS3 to Xbox 360 only because of fan demand; maybe the same will happen with Tenchu and 4 or its sequel(s) will get PS3/360 releases on top of the Wii version.
Regardless I think people should play it. It's the best in the series IMO. Completely different approach to these games than any of the previous Tenchu or Shinobido games, but for the better.
