Title: Yay Vermont!

The state of Vermont has legal same-sex marriage as of today. :) :) :)

Vermont rocks.

Too bad Washington and Oregon, often viewed as being some of the most liberal states in the nation, can't even do what Iowa was capable of doing.

That's good news obviously but I think that the first "big" step will be if the California supreme court overturns prop 8.  It would be a major blow on the grassroots level against anti-gay special interest groups *coughmormons* and may possibly make more Americans open-minded which (hopefully) could lead to actual gay "marriage" being allowed in most states.

Or the people in the magic underwear win and then this country will suck outside of a few states.

I was all excited today about Vermont, and was like "four down, forty-six to go!" and my mom's like "well what other states allow it?" "Connecticut, Massachusetts, Iowa, and now Vermont." She says, "oh, what about California, I thought they allowed gay marriage?"

I almost headdesked IRL.

Yeah, except that Vermont's legislature voted for marriage equality, and in an overwhelming fashion to boot.  They had to override the Governor's veto.  So you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, per the usual.

I read a Republican legislator who was trying to explain that the Democrats had taken the issue out of voters hands :-\

I guess the "correct path" to legalizing gay marriage is to find updated books of the Bible

That new talking point is running rampant on the web right now. Hell, I even had a friend spouting it off last night.

YOU PEOPLE WERE IN CONTROL FOR EIGHT YEARS AND YOU LOST. DEAL WITH IT.

Fundamental civil rights shouldn't be put up for a vote. But if there's gonna be a vote people should vote yes and the Peru Tribune is asking people to vote now: "Should Indiana legalize gay marriage?" Scroll down, it's on the left. Vote! (Via Americablog.)
