Yu Suzuki may be entering the twilight of his career, but many of his most famous creations will doubtlessly endure for years to come. The latest example of this comes in the form of OutRun Online Arcade, Sega's downloadable entry into Suzuki's original Ferrari-obsessed arcade racing franchise.

Sega today announced that OutRun Online Arcade would launch on the Xbox Live Marketplace next Wednesday, April 15, with an asking price of 800 Microsoft points ($10). While the game is an Xbox 360-exclusive title in North America, it will also be arriving on the European PlayStation Network next Thursday.

Like the original, OutRun Online Arcade is a race through a variety of 15 US locales with branching routes. In keeping with the series' fixation on a specific brand of fast cars, OutRun Online Arcade also features a selection of 10 different Ferraris. As the game's name suggests, online multiplayer races will also be included, with support for up to six players per match.

Sega's partnership with Sumo Digital has extended beyond the OutRun games. The publisher also enlisted the Sheffield-based studio to produce Virtua Tennis: World Tour on the PlayStation Portable and this year's multiplatform Sega Superstars Tennis.

Did they not associate the entries with a given gamertag? I'd have guessed they'd learned their lesson after that Ford fiasco. Didn't one Evilborean get like 4200 points out of that Ford web promotion before they linked it to "single win per account"?

This game is designed to be replayed over and over and the fuck over again, so don't worry if it's just the arcade/versus modes, that will be plenty.

The home versions have extra modes of play like heart attack (impress the girl with you by fulfilling driving conditions), time attack, and a mode where you can play through all 15 courses in a row.

All I hope that makes it into the XBLA/PSN ports is the arranged Euro Remix versions of the music. The default BGMs are so laughably AM2-AWFUL. If not it's custom-soundtrack time.

Yes the Euro Remixes of the songs are tremendous.

I'm starting to get back in the groove of sliding. Man this was such a great game. For $10 it's a steal.

I'll probably be playing this most of the day. I thought I was doing okay earlier, but I found out that I was playing on very easy. I also fuck up when coming out of drifts sometimes. I don't know how to end a drift properly.

Then on the 2nd race the road somehow disappeared on me and I got stuck in an abyss. 3rd race went by fine but the 4th had me stuck in the abyss again . Hope they get this fixed soon.

The name of the CD is "Outrun Sound Tracks -Complement-." You might want to try asking for it on the forums at Galbadia Hotel.

I'm too busy concentrating on the next turn. The only time I notice it is if I'm doing laps on the same track and I have the track memorized and it's just doing the motions and not really taking my full effort.

In rpgs when I'm sitting still on the battle screen figuring out what menu to select next I notice the music playing. But yeah, in action or racing games it's all an audio blur.

For me it depends on the type of racing game. I don't really bother playing any music with Gran Turismo, LFS or Forza since that's when I actually need to focus on the driving. For PGR, Burnout, Motorstorm, Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Outrun, etc. I usually have the custom soundtrack going in the background unless the game itself has good music. Like, Burnout games usually have crappy music, same with Motorstorm, but Wipeout and Outrun have good stuff.

Beezy and Swaggaz were neck and neck most of the time. Was surprised how you guys managed to be pushing each other back and forth non-stop.

Some of the matches were a little glitchy at times for me. Cars teleporting all around, lol. Between that and the skipping/slowdown at random times in single player I think this port could've used a little more QA. Still a great deal for $10 though.

One part I remember specifically was drifting into another car (I think Beezy in a yellow F50) for a good 4 seconds and it was like we were glued together.

When you're coming up on a turn let go of gas, quickly tap break, start the turn and then hold down on the gas again. This is what works for me.

Multiplayer is fun as hell. Luckily I haven't run into any glitches.

I bought the PSP version of Crazy Taxi, thinking it would be utterly kickass, but I couldn't get into it. I can't get used to the control differences from other driving games, and I don't see any shortcuts. What am I missing? Do I just need to soldier through until I get a thorough understanding of maps and landmarks?

Post by: Beezy on April 17, 2009, 02:38:00 PM: I just gear down once and then gear up immediately to turn. I lose way less speed than I do driving automatic by doing this. You don't need to brake at all. Also, pick a car with 5 gears instead of 6 to give yourself less work. I use the F40. I really suck though on the last of the harder stages like Milky Way, so I use the brakes instead of gearing up/down to turn and I slow down if I need to avoid hitting the walls.

Besides that, just learn the stages and drift as little as possible/only when necessary. On the first stage I only drift on that really big turn where there's water and I don't start drifting until I'm about halfway through the turn.

I'm playing on normal. I can't finish races on higher difficulties yet.

got a couple of questions I was wondering if could help me with....

firstly do you know if the different cars have different stats and stuff? Nothings on the screen and I remember Outrun C2C had differing stats for the cars like accel., handling, etc.

and whats the best strategy for the million points? I can only manage 800k or so. I notice that sometimes when you pass a rival car you get a mean 50000 points, but only sometimes. Do you know how this works?
